My Favorite Date

Chapter One

“I’m so proud of you!” my friend and co-worker, Talia, exclaimed, “He’s one of the best in London, Melanie. I can promise you that.”

“Yeah because you use escorts all the time,” I rolled my eyes, “I can’t believe I went through with it.”

“It’ll be fine,” she said.

“Sure,” I replied, “This is such an idiotic idea. This is going to make me broke.”

“Maybe he’ll feel bad and do it for free,” she said.

“Thanks,” I said and she just laughed.

“You know what I mean Melanie,” she said and I just rolled my eyes.

“Why do you need a date anyways?” my other friend and co-woker, Maggie asked.

“Because if I don’t have one I’ll never hear the end of my mother nagging about how it was my fault Louis cheated on me and broke up with me,” I said, “If I bring a date claiming he’s my boyfriend then it would make my life easier for everyone.”

“Then why don’t you just ask Trevor?” she asked, “You know he would do it.”

“No that would so backfire in my face when they came to visit me,” I said, “Trust me this is just easier. At least it’ll be no strings attached so after the whole wedding saying goodbye won’t be hard.”

“Well I wish you luck,” Maggie said as I clocked out.

“Me too,” I replied.

I then grabbed my bag and lunch box and coat. I walked out of the hospital and started looking around the parking lot. Liam had told me that he would be in a black SUV with a t-shirt and jeans on. I smiled when I saw a boy around my age probably a couple years younger than me but he was good looking. He had a five o’clock shadow look going but you could tell he groomed himself well. He was wearing a plain t-shirt with jeans and a leather jacket just like he said he would leaning against a black SUV.

“I’m assuming you’re Liam,” I said walking up to him.

“And you must be Melanie,” he replied and we shook hands.

“Nice to put a face to the voice,” I replied.

He just smiled at me and nodded his head and walked over to my side of the car and opened it for me.

“Thanks,” I said and he smiled at me.

“Not a problem,” he said.

I got into his car and then he rushed around to the driver’s side and got into his car. He pulled out of the parking spot and he put on the heater for me.

“So I hope you’re okay for something super casual,” he said, “There’s this diner I go to when I’m out late and they make the best comfort food around.”

“Sounds great,” I smiled at him and he smiled at me.

“So your friend recommended me?” he asked curious and I laughed.

“Talia Winchester,” I said and he smiled in recognition.

“Ah Talia,” he said and chuckled, “How are you friends with her?”

“We work together,” I replied.

“Ah,” he said and nodded his head.

He then pulled up to a diner that I knew very well. It was two blocks from my apartment and I always came here after a late shift on the weekend since they were open twenty-four hours. He looked over at me and looked at me confused.

“I come here when I work late shifts,” I replied smiling lightly, “They make the best homemade cinnamon rolls ever.”

Liam just smiled at me and rushed over to help me out of the car. I thanked him again and he just nodded his head and we headed inside the diner. When we walked up to the hostess stand, Hannah, the host that was always working when I came in smirked at me.

“Well if it isn’t the two late night customers,” she teased, “I figured you’d two meet sooner or later.”

“You come in a lot,” I stated and he smirked at me.

“More than I’ll ever admit out loud,” he replied, “You?”

“Same answer,” I replied.

We sat down at a booth and Hannah said she would get our normal meals and walked off. I then turned to look at Liam to see he was studying me as well.

“So what’s the reason why you called me?” he asked and I smiled lightly.

“I need a date to my sister’s wedding,” I said.

“Okay I can do that,” he said, “When are where?”

“The end of the month,” I replied, “And it’s going to be in New York City.”

“Do you know how much I charge?” he asked and I smiled and put my hand on top of his.

“Money’s not a problem,” I said, “Besides I don’t expect you to pay for plane tickets.”

His eyes then widened in shock and I gave him a small sheepish smile. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to say that.

“Then what are you going to pay me for?” he asked.

“For the time I need you,” I replied, “Of course I know that we’ll need to get to know each other and I’m thinking that it will take away from your usual clients so. . .”

I then stopped when I saw Hannah give us our drinks and said our food would be out shortly.

“So you’re going to pay me for my time and suit rental?” he asked confused.

“And another fees you feel necessary,” I replied.

“Well we’ll discuss the payment later,” he said as he took in what I was saying, “As of right now let’s get through the basics shall we? Like things I should know about you?”

I was about to answer when my phone started ringing and I saw it was my sister. I apologized and answered the call.

“Hello,” I said.

“Where were you?!” she asked, “I’ve been trying to call you for the last hour.”

“Oh well I got off work and Liam surprised me at the hospital to take me out to dinner,” I replied looking at him and he nodded his head in approval.

“Oh perfect,” she said, “Then you can ask him this question.”

“What question Lilly?” I asked.

“Well Greg’s friend can’t get the time off for the wedding so we’ll be short a groomsman and since you told me a couple of weeks ago you were bringing your boyfriend that maybe he could fill in,” she said, “We’ll pay for the suit and everything. We’d send it to your seamstress to fix if it needs fixing.”

“Let me ask and I’ll call you back Lilly,” I replied and hung up the phone before she could protest.

I then took a deep breath and looked at him.

“So things might have gotten a bit more complicated,” I replied.

“In what way?” he asked.

“My sister just called me asking if you would be in the wedding,” I said, “They would pay for your tux and everything it costs to fix it if need be.”

“I’ll do it,” he said, “So you can call her back later tonight and let her know. I’m also going be your boyfriend for this affair. My specialties are winning over parents and weddings so you called the right person.”

“Cocky much,” I teased and he just smiled at me.
