My Favorite Date

Chapter Eighteen

Liam’s POV

I haven’t heard from Melanie for three of days and I’ve been on edge. What I pulled on her was completely and utterly wrong and unprofessional. I couldn’t believe I ran from probably one of the best things to ever happen to me. Today was the day of the wedding I was currently sitting in my flat just watching my phone hoping that for some reason she would call me. I was about to just give up on it when my phone started ringing and I answered it without a second thought.

“Melanie,” I said hoping it was her.

“Guess again brother,” I heard Nicola’s voice, “What did you do?”

“What are you talking about?” I asked trying to play dumb.

“Don’t play dumb with me Liam,” Nicola stated, “I just got off the phone with Melanie before her sister’s reception asking me if Dad really had a heart attack. What did you do to that poor girl?”

I sighed and ran my hand over my face. Of course she would try to call and check up on me and my family because of what I told her family and the text I sent a few days ago.

“I ran,” I said, “I ran because I was scared that she was falling in love like I was falling in love with her.”

“Liam,” I heard Nicola’s voice, “Open up your flat door. I’m outside.”

I hung up the phone and went to the front door and opened it up to find both her and Ruth standing on the other side. I stepped to the side and Ruth and Nicola sighed when they saw the house and Loki just looking at us. I hadn't changed out of the sweats I traveled in nor did I have the need to shower or throw away the three days of takeaway I had ordered.

“It’s been two days,” Nicola started.

“Three,” I stated monotone.

“Three days and you’re like this,” Nicola said, “Oh Liam.”

They then brought me into a hug and I closed my eyes as I felt the tears fall down.

“Now I want you to start at the beginning,” Nicola said, “Ruth and I want to know the real reason how you know her.”

I sighed and nodded my head and led them back to the couch to start my story of being Melanie’s hired date.

Melanie’s POV

Today was the wedding and after getting everything pushed back a day, I was in charge of making sure today went smoothly. We found a tux shop that would fix Liam’s tux to fit Louis and was able to make everything get pushed back a day. The ceremony went smoothly and I was grateful that all we had to get through was the reception. While everyone was at the cocktail hour and I slipped away and decided to call Nicola to see if it was true. I dialed the phone number that Nicola put in my phone and waited for an answer.

“Hello,” the voice said.

“Nicola?” I asked, “It’s Melanie. Liam’s friend.”

“Oh Mel!” she exclaimed, “How are you? Is Liam with you? How was the wedding?”

“Wait,” I said confused, “You don’t sound worried.”

“What do you mean love?” she asked and I frowned knowing it was just a cover story.

“Liam left three days ago and told me that your father had a heart attack,” I said, “I was calling to check up on you since I figured Liam wouldn’t want to answer my call.”

“He did what!?” she exclaimed, “Oh Mel I am so sorry. I had no idea. Did he give you a real reason as to why he was leaving?”

“No,” I said, “Can I tell you something? To pass along to Liam.”

“Anything love,” Nicola said.

“Can you tell him that I’m keeping my promise and that I don’t hate him, I’m just disappointed?” I asked.

“Of course love,” she said, “I’m going to find out what’s going on and get back to you okay?”

“Okay,” I said, “Thanks Nicola.”

“Anytime Mel,” she said, “Now go have some fun and don’t think about my idiotic brother for tonight. Celebrate your sister’s happy day!”

“Thanks Nicola,” I said, “Be safe! And we’ll have to do lunch when I get back.”

“Of course!” she said and we both hung up the phone.

I then made my way to the party and I smiled lightly when I saw Louis bringing me a glass of wine.

“I figured you’d might want to start now,” Louis said smiling, “After the last couple of days.”

“Thanks Lou,” I said taking the glass from him, “I appreciate it.”

“Anytime beautiful,” he grinned, “Ready to show these people how to really celebrate?”

“Always,” I laughed trying forget about Liam for the night.

The reception was in full swing and I watching as everyone was having a blast and enjoying themselves. We had gotten through everything successfully and now all we needed to do was enjoy the night and party it up until the early morning. I was drinking a glass of champagne when my sister came over and took a seat next to me.

“He’s an idiot and doesn’t deserve a minute of your thinking,” Lilly said and I gave her a small smile.

“Easier said than done,” I sighed, “I can’t believe that I fell for him. This was just a job to him. I was just a job. I think what hurt the most was that he left after we slept together.”

“Well I think I see another ex-boyfriend who has been staring at you all night and wants a dance from you,” Lilly said and we both looked over at Louis who was smiling lightly at us.

I gave Lilly a small smile and gave her a hug.

“Congrats on getting married Lil,” I said, “And thanks for being a big sister when I need it. Now you go have some fun while I go get a dance.”

Liam’s POV

I had just finished telling my sisters the whole story with Melanie and they were quietly taking everything in. Ruth had order takeaway for us and I was quietly waiting for their reply and our food.

“Well it sounds like you love this girl Liam,” Ruth said.

“I wouldn’t call it love. . .” I said feeling a bit panicky at that word being used.

“Are you on edge because you think that Louis is going to swoop in and steal her away from you?” Nicola asked.

“Yes,” I said without thinking.

“Then you love her,” she said, “if you didn’t love her you wouldn’t care that someone else was interested in her.”

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

“You think she’ll forgive me?” I asked quietly.

“That we can’t answer for you Li,” Nicola answered, “Only she can do that. However she did want me to pass on that she's keeping her promise she's just disappointed. I don't know what you made her promise Liam but you need to fx it. You just have to prove to her that you’re truly sorry and that you do love her. She is your last date Liam. You need to get her back.”

“I don’t know how!” I groaned, “She hasn’t returned any texts or voicemails I’ve left her over the last couple of days. I just want to explain and she won’t even let me do that.”

“Have you ever wondered if she’s afraid of getting hurt like she did with Louis?” Ruth asked, “Because if I was her I would be nervous about that.”

I sighed and ran my hand over my face.

“I’m the worst person ever,” I groaned, “But I need a game plan on winning her back.”

That afternoon I had Melanie to thank because for the first time in a few years, my sisters and I were all hanging out in the same place for more than just an hour. Because of Melanie, I was finally connecting with my family again and it felt great and I needed her to know the impact she had on my life.
