My Favorite Date

Chapter Sixteen

I changed into some presentable clothes and was in the bathroom when Liam came into my room.

“Care to explain?” Liam asked and I could hear the anger in his voice.

“Louis and I were civil for the first time since being here Liam,” I said, “That’s it.”

“I find that a little hard to believe since you were twenty minutes late do you remember our cover,” Liam stated and I looked at him incredulously.

“So because I was twenty minutes late Louis and I are back together,” I said feeling absolutely hurt that Liam would think that about me.

Liam then realized what he had said but the damaged had already been done. Those words Liam stated reminded me that we weren’t really a couple, something I had forgotten yet again. Liam’s face softened but I wasn’t going to hear it.

“Mel,” Liam started and I shook my head.

“I get it Liam,” I stated sharply, “I get it. You don’t have to worry. This isn’t going to blow our cover. Trust me on that.”

I then finished up fixing my hair and slipped on my shoes.

“Are you ready?” I asked and then moved out of the room not waiting for a response.

When we got to the bottom of the stairs, Liam just slipped his hand into mine without a word and we headed into the living room to find just my brother and Jillian sitting down.

“Where is everyone?” I asked as Liam and I sat down next to them.

“Still getting ready,” Thomas said, “Apparently Dad wrote down the wrong time for the reservation and we all had an extra hour.”

“Oh,” I said and I could feel Liam was looking at me.

I turned to look at him and he was about to say something but then my parents came in and soon followed by everyone else and Liam never got to say what he wanted. On the way to the restaurant, Liam had pulled me close to his side and he leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear.

“I’m sorry Mel,” he said, “I know I overreacted but its. . .”

“It’s what?” I murmured as I tried to not close my eyes as I felt Liam’s breath both on my ear and neck.

“I don’t want you to get hurt,” Liam said after he hesitated.

Those words that left Liam’s mouth made me frown because I was hoping for some weird reason the words would be that he cared about me, but they weren’t.

“I know,” I said deciding to brush it under the rug, “I’m sorry I was rude back.”

Liam was about to say something but he was again interrupted by Niall.

“Oi! Love birds let’s get out of the car yeah? I’m starving!” he exclaimed and I blushed as Liam chuckled lightly and we got out of the car.

Liam helped me out and we followed everyone to the restaurant. I knew that both Greg and Lilly’s friends were going to be there for dinner since we were going to have the rehearsal practice tomorrow and then the wedding was on Saturday which meant my mother was going to be super nervous and I was probably going to get the brunt end of it. By the time we got to the table, the only seats were next to Louis and I felt Liam tense a bit since we were holding hands.

“Want me to sit next to him?” I asked quietly.

“No I’ll be fine,” he said, “Try and have fun tonight?”

“Can’t promise anything,” I smiled lightly.

Dinner was going pretty well in my book. Everyone was laughing and having a great time. Hell even Louis and Liam seemed to be getting along. I was a bit at ease and I looked down to see Lilly giving me a follow me look and I nodded my head. Liam and I were currently talking to Jerrod, one of Greg’s classmates, when I excused myself to head to the bathroom. I walked passed Louis and he grabbed my wrist lightly and I turned to look at him.

“You look beautiful Mel,” Louis said in my ear and I knew I blushed because I always did when someone complimented me.

I was about to respond when I smelt Louis’s breath and it smelt exactly like his favorite whiskey.

“Thanks Lou,” I said and quietly added, “Slow done on the drinks Lou. I can smell it on your breath.”

Louis’s face quickly hardened at my response and I saw the normal Louis I saw towards the end of our relationship.

“I’m doing just fine Mel,” Louis replied a bit harshly, “You’re not my girlfriend anymore. Stop acting like it.”

I then politely ripped my arm out of his grip and quickly rushed to the bathroom to see that Lilly just wanted to see what was going on since Louis and Liam were getting along so well. Of course, I wanted to know too but I wasn’t going to pry until Liam and I got back to the house tonight to find out. Both Lilly and I then walked out of the bathroom and I could see Liam’s hands clenched as Louis was smirking at him.

“You okay?” I asked as I sat next to him and Liam looked over at me.

“I’m fine,” he said and I could see the lie behind his eyes.

I just nodded my head as I looked over at Louis to see him smiling at me and I gave him a tight smile feeling he told Liam something that I hadn’t told him. Dinner ended shortly after dessert and Liam and I grabbed our own cab because Liam said he wanted some alone time with me before the weekend. When we got into the cab, Liam pulled me closer to him and he kissed my temple.

“Can I ask you a serious question Mel?” he asked and I looked up at him.

“You can ask me anything Li,” I replied quietly playing with his fingers.

“You have to promise me something,” he said, “Promise me that no matter what happens after this weekend you’ll never hate me.”

“Liam. . .” I started but he cut me off and I could see the desperation and pleading in his eyes.

“Promise me,” he said.

“I promise Liam,” I said not liking where this was going at all, “but where is this coming from?”

“Come here,” he said as I noticed that he had the cab pull up to one of the guest homes that my grandparents had built for their friends and family that visited them.

“Liam,” I said and he smiled.

“I talked your family into letting us stay here for the rest of the weekend,” he said, “I thought you might want to be alone after the last few days.”

I smiled lightly at Liam and hugged him tightly and pulled him into a kiss which caught both him and me off guard. When our lips parted, I was a light shade of pink and Liam was smiling lightly. He then pulled me in for another kiss and picked me up bridal style and we headed inside the house without breaking the kiss. For some reason I wasn’t trying to stop him no matter what alarms were going off in my head. It just felt right to kiss Liam like that and I wasn’t going to stop. Liam had managed to get us to the bedroom of the small cabin and he had set me down on the bed. We pulled away for one moment and I could see the lust clouded behind Liam’s eyes.

“You are so beautiful Mel,” Liam whispered and kissed me again, “So beautiful.”

His lips started trailing down my neck and I closed my eyes in utter bliss. I pulled on Liam’s button up shirt and he looked at me and I pulled him down into a heated kiss. Liam started on trying to take my dress off and I started unbuttoning his shirt. I got about half way done with unbuttoning Liam’s shirt when I sensed the mood change and Liam quickly stopped what he was doing a moved back a bit.

“Mel we need to slow down,” Liam said and I swallowed the lump forming in my throat and kept the hurt from my eyes and voice.

“You’re probably right,” I replied as I stood up, “I’m just going to go shower really quick.”
“You showered this morning though,” he said.

“I’m just going to wash my body again,” I said, “I’ll just pull my hair into a bun and keep it dry.”

I then walked over to my luggage and grabbed what I needed and rushed into the bathroom and shut the door and let the tears fall down my face. Maybe my mother was right. I wasn’t worth anyone’s time and that I would never have someone love me. Obviously Liam was feeling the same way as Louis did and I just shook my head. I was leaning my head back against the door when there was a knock on it.

“Are you sure you’re okay Mel?” Liam’s muffled voice ask, “Please don’t lie to me.”

“I’m fine Li,” I said hiding the tears, “I just need some time to just unwind. I’ll be out shortly.”

I then pushed myself off the door and got the shower running so I could wash off my body. I quickly changed into my clean clothes once I was done and headed out to find that Liam was sitting in the living room of the guest house with his head in his hands. I quickly walked over to him and put my hand lightly on his knee.

“You okay Li?” I asked quietly.

Liam then looked up at me and pulled me closer to him. We continued to stare at each other and before I knew it Liam was kissing me. This kiss was quite different from our other kisses though. It wasn’t rushed or seemed like it was practiced. It was effortless and full of passion. Liam’s mouth soon left mine and as he trailed kisses down my neck and I closed my eyes in pure bliss. It was like Liam knew exactly what I liked and what he needed to do to turn putty into his hands. Liam then picked me up bridal style and reattached our lips and we made our way back to the bedroom. As you can guess Liam and I didn’t just have sex. We made love. It was passionate, considerate, and absolutely amazing. Liam knew exactly what to make me feel like on cloud nine and the same went for me. It was like I already knew what I needed to do to make Liam happy. I was slowly falling asleep in Liam’s arms when I heard him say something that I didn’t understand.

“Remember your promise to me Mel,” he whispered kissing my temple, “Please remember your promise.”

“I promise Liam,” I yawned tiredly feeling complete and whole for the first time in years.
