Wished I Stayed

walk with me

“That’s silly,” Clarissa said as she waved her hand at him. “If you were my ex, then I would have known who you were.” She took it all in, and she bit her bottom lip. Liam could tell that she really was slowly starting to think of the idea of losing part of her memories.

“Do you remember what happened at the end of 2010 then?” he asked her gently. He was so close to tears because she didn’t remember him, and this was his entire fault. If he had just stayed with her, this wouldn’t have happened. She would be a healthy young lady, but she ended up with part of her memories gone.

Her eyes widened slightly as she looked at him and whispered, “Isn’t it 2008?” He could hear the fright in her voice, and he knew she was trying to hold all her emotions in and not cry. Liam knew that was more like her. She hated crying in front of people, though she couldn’t control the tears or sobs that seemed to fall from her mouth back in 2010.

To answer that question, he slowly shook his head. “It’s 2014,” he told her with a slight frown. “I’ll go get a doctor,” he stood and made his way out of the room. He could feel tears fill his eyes, and he went to wipe at them as he tried not to breakdown in the middle of the hospital.

He started back to the room when he had gotten a doctor, and he ran his fingers through his hair as he followed him inside. The doctor interrogated her on various questions such as, “What’s the last thing you remember? What day was it?” She replied with December 17, 2008, and he felt his breath being taken away. That was only a few days before she met him, and he just wanted to fall to the ground and sob like she had on the day of their breakup.

He had lost everything because she didn’t remember a single memory of them together. All of it was lost. He kept his stand behind the doctor as he leaned against the wall. When the doctor left, the two was left staring at each other. “Earlier,” she muttered as she pulled her bottom lip in between her teeth, “you called me Clare-bear. Was that your nickname for me?”

Liam slowly nodded before he pushed off the wall and went to sit next to her. “Yeah, you actually came up with the nicknames first. You would always call me Li-bear,” he told her, and she slowly nodded.

“When did we meet?” she asked as she stared down at her hands. He couldn’t help but look at them as well. They were beautiful hands, and she was the first and only person he met where he admired everything about her, even her hands. They were soft, and he remembered when they would brush over his cheek or run through his hair. It would make his heart beat even faster than it already was, and he would feel butterflies erupting in his stomach.

“Just a few days after December 17th,” he began, “we were at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery.”

Liam was quite bored with his surroundings as he followed his group of friends around. The girls had decided to head to the art gallery, and he found nothing interesting that was displayed on the walls or tables. It wasn’t until he arrived in a particular part of the gallery that he stopped and glanced around. The paintings were beautiful. The detail was amazing that it almost seemed like a photo.

The one picture he liked most was of a beautiful field. It was filled with all sorts of flowers, and it had cows grazing in a few places with a person on a horse. Then, in the back, there was a farmer. On the side, there was an apple tree with children leaning against it and munching on apples. There were rolling mountains in the background, and it was just beautiful.

“Mm, I painted this one when I was in the countryside,” her sweet voice filled his ears, and he could feel shivers running along his spine. He turned his head, and he swore she was an angel. A beautiful, beautiful angel.

“It’s nice,” he said as he glanced at it once more. “You have a lot of talent,” and he gave her a smile. She glanced over at him, and he caught sight of her beautiful pale blue eyes. He could feel his breath being taken, but he didn’t mind because he was staring at an angel.

“I remember creating the painting you described,” she murmured softly, and she was about to say more when the door opened.

In came a little child, she had Clarissa’s blond locks, and his eyes widened at the sight. “Mommy, mommy!” she ran to Clarissa’s side, and Liam couldn’t believe it.

“Mommy?” both he and Clarissa said, and they turned to look at each before a deep voice answered their questioning look.

“I’m the father,” he picked up the little girl, who squealed. Liam’s eyes widened with shock as he saw the familiar boy with green eyes and a head topped with curls.

“Harry,” he murmured softly.
