Friends with Benefits
Chapter 1
“And congratulations to the graduates of Batch 2013!” the MC spoke through his microphone. Me and my best friend, Kiera looked at me and squealed.
“Holly! We finally graduated!” she said, giving me a huge hug. Me and Kiera were studying make up and our dream was to fix famous people and be known all over the world. It took us 3 years and now, it feels like we’re free.
“Holy shit. We did it.” She breathed. “I hope I’ll be working for Bruno Mars.”
That's what I love in this school. You get calls from famous people. Singers, Actors and stuff right after you graduate. Our records probably heads straight to the "Famous department" and sometimes if you're really good, you get calls even before you graduate. Make up has been my life. I enjoy fixing people and changing them into a better person. It took me and my parents almost two years before we were able to gather money and enroll me in this school. That is why, I am very happy.
“I know!” I exclaimed. I ran over to my parents and gave them a big hug as well.
“Honey.” My mom soothed. “We should celebrate with Kiera and her parents.” Our family has been friends since we were kindergarten. When someone needs help or money, we'll be there for eachother. If we need to move, they move with us. We're like family.
I beamed. “We really should! Kiera! Come over here!”
And she did, taking her parents with her. Our parents talked for a while before we left and headed to a pretty decent restaurant. We stayed in the restaurant for almost two hours and a half, talking about old times and enjoying the taste of the food. And in the end, it was really sad saying our goodbyes.
“Hey.” Kiera muttered. “I’ll miss you. I mean, it’s not like we’ll never see each other again but I’m used to seeing you every single day.”
I got teary eyed. “Me too, Kiera.” And with that, we hugged and went separate ways.
The next few days were awful. Not even a single call from any manager out there. I was close to giving up and looking for another job until my mom came running to my room.
“Holly! There’s a phone call for you!”
I beamed and ran as fast as I can. Finally! Who can this be? Will it be Katy Perry? Paramore? Maroon 5? Who? I quickly took the phone from my mother and pressed it tightly on my ears.
“Holly Winters speaking.”
“Oh. Hey Holly!” a girl cheerfully said. “This is Lou Teasdale. I’ve heard a lot from you and from your records I think you’ll be a fine assistant.”
“Uhm…”
She laughed. “Oh, sorry. Am I going to fast? Okay. Shall I start from the very beginning?”
I nodded and I realized that she couldn’t see me. “Ye-Yes please.”
“Okay, so I’m Lou Teasdale. I’m a make up artist and right now, I just got pregnant so I need an assistant to help me.”
“Su-Sure! Bu- But. Where are you? I mean, where should we meet up or something?”
“We’re on tour right now but for the mean time we’re on a short break here in New York.”
“New York?” I asked, getting excited. I've always wanted to go to New York. They say it was so huge and busy that even people don't have the time to look at you.
“Yeah, I had your address with me so the plane ticket will probably be there by tonight.” Tonight? Is she serious? I haven't even packed yet. And I still have to see Kiera before I leave. I know she'll be happy for me. And we have to talk and catch up. I wonder if someone called her already.
“Thank you.” I said tearing up. I’m so happy. I mean, I'll finally do something I love. I'll finally meet new people. And in New York! God, there might be even hot guys there.
“No prob. Just contact me as soon as you get here. Well, gotta go.”
“Wait! Who will we be fixing up, anyway?” I asked, curiously.
“Oh! I almost forget!” she exclaimed. “It’s One Direction!”
