Always Expect the Unexpected

Chapter 14

Abbey’s POV

I woke up and Niall was already gone. I frowned. I was supposed to leave first. I got in the shower and washed myself really good. I put on a cute little dress to wear there, and then I brushed my hair out really good. I brushed me teeth and then I slipped on my ballet flats that I had packed for today, and I grabbed my actual shoes for the wedding and hid them in my purse. I grabbed my phone and walked downstairs, only to be greeted by Maura.

“Well good morning, love. How are you?” she asked me.

“I’m nervous,” I admitted. I was shaking. I really didn’t like this feeling.

“Oh, it’s alright. You’ll look beautiful, I know it. Just relax, everything will be fine,” she grinned at me.

I nodded my head and took a deep breath. “Alright, I’ll relax,” I breathed again.

“Okay, now come one, we need to go and get ready,” she laughed. I noticed how fancy she was dressed, and I smiled at her.

I followed Maura out to the limo and we talked, picked up my Mom and Sam, and kept talking. When Sandra got in the car, I was kind of surprised, but I brushed it off. I didn’t want anything to go wrong. When we got to the church we snuck in through the back to a room where all of my stuff was. I saw down in a chair while professionals worked on me to make me pretty while everyone was talking to me.

“Oh, you’re going to look gorgeous!” My Mom squealed along with Maura, my soon to be Mother-in-Law.

“Look up,” the makeup professional ordered.

I looked up. “You really think so? I’m so incredibly nervous!” I let out a weird sigh that sounded like a cat meowing.

There was a knock on the door. “Can I come in?” it was Paul.

“Come in!” I yelled. He came in and smiled at me.

“Oh, my little Abbey looks all grown up!” he laughed. Ever since I met me he acted like a dad, and a brother.

“Thanks,” I giggled. Paul gave my mother and Maura both hugs, and properly introduced himself to my mom.

“Okay, sit up,” the hair stylist said after my makeup was done.

I sat up when Payton walked in. “Hi Pooh Bear,” I smiled at her.

“Hi Abbey. I’m here to deliver a message from Niall!” she giggled. She was obviously happy she was just with him.

“Okay, what is it?” I asked.

“Tilt your head back,” I was ordered. I did what I was told.

“Here, it’s on this piece of paper,” Payton handed me a small piece of folded paper. I unwrapped it and looked at it.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

I suck at poems

but I miss you

I smiled and handed the paper to my Mom. “Payton, tell him I miss him too,” I shooed her out of the room. I sighed. I was hoping Sam would be here for this experience. Suddenly, she walked in the room and smiled sheepishly at me.

“Hi, Abbey,” she looked at her feet and closed the door behind herself.

“Hi, Sam,” I replied flatly. I was wishing she was done with Ed. I knew it was a fat chance.

“You look pretty,” she smiled at me. I noticed that she was wearing her bridesmaid dress. It looked good on her, as I suspected it would.

“So do you,” I smiled. I moved my head a little, and the hair dresser yanked it back into place.

“Please don’t move,” she sighed. She continued working on my hair while we all talked. The rest of my bridesmaids came and all squealed when they saw me. Around 18:00 I put on my dress and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked amazing, even better than I imagined. I was extremely excited. Paul walked in, and I knew the reception was about to begin.

No POV

Niall stood at the alter, waiting for the music to start and Abbey to walk down the isle. He was really nervous. He was chatting with Harry, Zayn, Louis, and Liam while they waited. The reverend also tried contributing to the conversation while he was preparing himself. Niall noted how the man look incredibly regal for a reverend and how he might thank Ed later, but maybe not. Harry was trying to discreetly text his new friend Sandra who was sitting in the audience, waiting for the reception to start as well.

Suddenly, the music started, and all of the boys didn’t know what to do, so they stood there. Abbey wrapped her arm around Paul’s as they walked together down the isle with the flower girl, which was Payton, in front of them, and one of Abbey’s cousins behind with the rings. Finally, Abbey got to the alter with Paul, and it was time for them to begin.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this company, to join together this Man and this Woman in holy Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church: which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence and first miracle that he wrought in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of Saint Paul to be honorable among all men: and therefore is not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God,” the reverend began. “Into this holy estate these two persons present come now to be joined. If any man can show just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him now speak, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace,” the reverend paused for a moment before continuing. “I REQUIRE and charge you both, as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not be lawfully joined together in Matrimony, ye do now confess it. For be ye well assured, that if any persons are joined together other than as God's Word doth allow, their marriage is not lawful,” he glanced around the room for a moment before continuing. “Niall, wilt thou have this Woman to thy wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honor, and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?” he asked, looking at Niall.

“I will,” Niall replied.

“Abbey, wilt thou have this Man to thy wedded husband, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor, and keep him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto him, so long as ye both shall live?” he asked Abbey.

“I will,” she replied.

“Alright, Who giveth this Woman to be married to this Man?” the reverend continued.

Paul raised his hand nervously. He squeezed Abbey’s hand before giving her away. He went to go take his seat.

The reverend directed Abbey and Niall to hold right hands before continuing. “Repeat after me, I Niall take thee Abbey to my wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I plight thee my troth.”

Niall repeated the reverend.

Niall and Abbey dropped their hands and rejoiced them again. “Repeat after me, I Abbey take thee John to my wedded Husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my troth.”

Abbey repeated after him as well.

The reverend parted their hands and gestured to the rings. He grabbed a ring and put it in Niall’s hand. He held up a booklet for Niall to read from while he put the ring on Abbey’s finger.

“WITH this Ring I thee wed: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen,” Niall’s voice was shaky, and you could tell he was nervous.

“BLESS, O Lord, this Ring, that he who gives it and she who wears it may abide in thy peace, and continue in they favor, unto their life's end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen,” the reverend said as Niall put the ring on Abbey’s ring finger on her left hand. “Let us pray,” the reverend continued.

Everyone in the church stood to join in the prayer.

“OUR Father,” the reverend began again. “who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, On Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen,” and there was a silence throughout the room. “O ETERNAL God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, Giver of all spiritual grace, the Author of everlasting life; Send thy blessing upon these thy servants, this Man and this Woman, whom we bless in thy Name; that they, living faithfully together, may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made, (whereof this Ring given and received is a token and pledge,) and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to thy laws; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen,” he continued. “O GOD, who hast so consecrated the state of Matrimony that in it is rep resented the spiritual marriage and unity betwixt Christ and his Church; Look mercifully upon these thy servants, that they may love, honor, and cherish each other, and so live together in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and of peace; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen,” the reverend took a deep breath. He joined Abbey and Niall’s hand together again and began speaking. “Those whom God hath joined together let no man put asunder,” then the reverend turned to the people in the pews. “FORASMUCH as Niall and Abbey have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, and thereto have given and pledged their troth, each to the other, and have declared the same by giving and receiving a Ring, and by joining hands; I pronounce that they are Man and Wife, In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”

The reverend made Abbey and Niall kneel before continuing. “GOD the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favor look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace; that ye may so live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen.”

There was a silence again, and the reverend said one last thing. “You may kiss the bride,” he smiled at Niall.

Abbey and Niall stood, sharing one long kiss and everyone applauded. Abbey threw her bouquet behind her, and Payton caught it.

Abbey’s POV

“Let’s go eat!” Niall and I declared. My heart was pounding so hard, so I didn’t feel stable. We all piled into the banquet hall and everyone sat where they were assigned. There were people speaking for us, and then there was a slideshow put up on a huge screen. There was a picture of Niall and I kissing each other when we were first together. We both looked at each other, probably asking the same question. Who took these pictures? Then it got to the picture of me evolving through pregnancy. That part was sped up and it looked really cool, as we had suspected. We both laughed at how awesome it looked. Then there was a picture of baby Liam and I standing there, and then Niall standing with us, kissing the baby. Next, there were pictures from when I was modeling. There were just me, modeling paternity clothes, and then there was the ones with Niall. Everyone made “ooh” sounds. Niall and I laughed. Next, there was the picture of Niall’s back all scratched up, and it had the caption “This is what it looks like when you do everything right!” and everyone stared at Niall and I. We both blushed and looked away from their gaze. After the slideshow was finally over (mostly just pictures of us kissing and sitting with each other, running together, etc.) everyone clapped and it was time to cut the cake.

“Okay, Niall, let’s cut it together,” I smiled. He nodded his head, but didn’t take the knife. “Come on, Niall, I know you want some-” I was cut off by my face being slammed in the cake. I pulled my face out and wiped the cake off of my face and flicked it on the ground. I rolled my eyes, grabbing a handful of cake and smashed it into his face as well. He wiped it off and stuck in his mouth and we laughed. While we cleaned up, we let everyone else cut the cake. We went to a unisex bathroom to clean ourselves up together. We splashed each other with water and laughed before we dried ourselves off and join everyone again. We shared some kisses and partied with everyone before it was time to leave and get ready for our honeymoon. We got in a limo and went to a location that neither of us knew about. Sam told me Ed had bought Niall and I proper clothes for the trip. The limo driver handed us plane tickets and left us at the airport. The tickets were to Scotland, somewhere I’d always wanted to go. Niall got slightly tense. “Scotland?” he asked.

“Yeah, I guess so,” I sighed. “Are you alright?” I asked him. I grabbed his hand and rubbed circles on the skin on him palm with my thumb. He relaxed slightly.

“Yeah, just peachy. I’m just worried you’ll fall in love with a Scott while were there,” Niall blushed. “Their accents are quite sexy,” he added and laughed.

I raised my eyebrows at him and laughed as well. “I’m glad you think Scotts are sexy,” I giggled. We walked hand in hand to our fight, which ended up being a private jet. Just before we got on, we ran in to Paul.

“Hey you two!” He stopped us before allowing us through the gate. “Give me a hug before you become completely un-pure!” he joked, but there was some seriousness behind his tone.

I couldn’t resist hugging him. He was like the father and brother I had never had. “Oh, come here you big teddy bear!” I laughed, squeezing him tightly. His kissed my forehead and patted my back.

“Stay safe,” he told me quietly. “And you!” he looked at Niall. “Don’t hurt my baby!” he laughed, hugging Niall.

“I don’t know when you became her father, but I don’t know if I like it,” Niall chuckled, hugging him back.

“Alright you crazy kids, I’ll see you in three weeks!” Paul laughed, finally letting us through.

“Bye Paul!” Niall and I called over our shoulders.

“Well, this’ll be fun,” Niall laughed, poking my nose as we boarded our private jet.

“Yeah, fun!” I rolled my eyes. I had a feeling we had different ideas of fun.
