Bored and Broken

Fifty Two

The next summer, after Harry has graduated. (about six or seven months later)

Harry's POV

"No, Lou, you can't come with me."

"Why! She hasn't been back in like two months and I want to see her too," he whines. "I can stay at a hotel and you can still have your alone time."

"That's not why I'm saying no," I snap. He puts his hands up in surrender.

"Alright, chill. How are things with you guys anyway?"

How are things. That's a good question. The first few months of Adie and I being together again were amazing. We were so happy. I went to London whenever I could and if I couldn't get there then she would come here instead. We saw each other as much as possible.

She has changed, though. It's not a bad thing; she wanted to go to London to find herself, to grow up and figure out who she is. And she's made incredible progress. She's more confident in herself, she takes more risks, she's not as shy or scared as she once was. The problem is, she has changed a lot from the girl I fell in love with a year and a half ago. Don't get me wrong, I still love her. So much. It's just that lately I feel like she doesn't need me anymore, not the way I need her. If I can't go there for a few weeks at a time it doesn't really bother her. She doesn't call me as much as she used to. She's not necessarily distant, though, which is the weird part. She doesn't seem to be actively pushing me away because when we do talk or see each other it's completely fine.

I've talked to my mum about it. She said that Adie is just becoming more independent, that it's a good thing and I shouldn't feel threatened. The problem is that I've grown as well, I've grown up in my own ways and I still need her just as much as I used to. Maybe she's realizing that she doesn't feel the same and that scares the hell out of me.

"So...not good?"

"What?"

He laughs a little and stands from my bed. "I asked you about Adie."

"Oh. Right. Umm..things are just different I guess. Not bad just...I don't know. She's different."

"Yeah," he agrees. "She's not the same insecure girl that move in here last year."

"No, she's not."

"That's a good thing, Harry. She's still Adie, she's just more sure of that. Are you going to tell her about the job offer?"

"That's the plan. She texted me saying she wants to just stay in tonight so it's a good time to do it."

"Is Gemma there?" he asks, smirking at me. I roll my eyes and laugh a little.

"Yes, Lou. My sister is there."

"Isn't that weird? You wake up and see her at breakfast and it's like...hey so...did you hear me having sex with Adie last night?"

"Stop," I laugh, chucking a pillow at him. "Yes, it's a little bit weird. Gemma never says anything, though. Plus, she sleeps like the dead so it's not really an issue."

"Except the shower incident," he reminds me, laughing more at my expense.

"Shut up." I can't help the blush that creeps to my cheeks when I think about that time. Adie was in the shower and I decided to join her, not realizing that Gemma was actually home. She heard everything and it was really uncomfortable to say the least. Thank goodness she hasn't walked in on us or anything.

"Okay, I'm going to head out. Have fun with Eleanor." I bump my fist against his and throw my duffle bag over my shoulder.

"Oh don't worry, I will."

I roll my eyes at him and he follows me to the front door, talking to my mum while I walk out. Even though I'm not sure where my relationship with Adie stands at this point, I'm still excited to see her. I know that I want to make things work between us. The only problem is that I don't know if she feels the same.

"Honey, I'm home!" I call, smiling as I walk into Adie and Gemma's apartment.

"Did you bring cookies?"

I turn as I shut the door, shaking my head at Gemma who is sitting on the couch.

"No," I laugh. "Was I supposed to?"

"What are you good for?"

"He's good for one or two things," Adie butts in, walking out of her room. She runs over to me and I drop my bag on the ground before taking her in my arms. "Hi." She kisses my cheek a few times and I can't stop smiling like an idiot.

"I missed you," I whisper in her ear. I haven't been here in almost a month. She wraps her legs around my waist and uses them to hoist herself up, her hands on my shoulders an sliding up to either side of my neck.

"I missed you too," she says, smiling down at me. I laugh a little and she fiddles with my hair. "When was the last time you got a hair cut?"

"I don't like to cut my hair. What is so bad about that?"

"Harry, you're practically growing a mane," Gemma says. I don't take my eyes off Adie's face, but she turns to laugh, nodding her head in agreement as she looks back at me. "Now take your PDA somewhere else, you're making me depressed about my single-ness."

Adie tries to get down from my hold but I don't let her. Instead I continue holding her up while I walk to her bedroom, kicking the door shut with my foot and falling down on the bed with her underneath me. I finally take this moment to kiss her. She smiles against my lips and places one hand against my cheek, the other tangling into my hair.

"You're crushing me," she says, giggling against my mouth. I kiss all over her face and she just keeps laughing. "Harry!"

"I can't help it, you have such a kissable face."

"I have something for you," she says, pushing some curls back from my forehead. I raise my eyebrows.

"Do you?"

"Mhmm." She pulls my face back down to hers. Whenever I'm kissing Adie I just forget about everything else. The arguing, the distance, whatever it was we were talking about. Everything else melts away.

"Okay," she says, forcing me to break the kiss. "Let me get up."

"I don't want to."

"Harry."

"What? You like it when I'm on top." I smirk down at her and she rolls her eyes, trying not to smile at the crude joke. I kiss her once more before rolling onto my back so she can stand. She goes to her closet and pulls out a bag.

"I thought you might like this," she says, smiling as she pulls out the brightest orange beanie I've ever seen. She laughs a little and I shake my head, knowing this is a joke.

"That looks like a traffic cone," I laugh. She nods and jumps to sit on the bed next to me, crossing her legs and pulling the hat over her head.

"I know, isn't it great! It's so bright, it's amazing. You always wear like dark blue or black or grey. That's boring. This is eye catching," she says, pointing to her head.

"That it is," I agree. She takes it off and forces it over my head. "Alright, stop harassing me. I'll wear it."

"Will you actually?"

"Yes, but only when I'm with you."

"I'm okay with that. So how is everyone? How's your mum?"

"She's good." I half sit up and lean back against the wall. It was already dark when I got here and driving here tires me out. "She's seeing someone."

"Really? That's so exciting!"

"It's kind of weird but yeah, she's really happy. He's a good guy."

"That's good, she deserves it." She lays on top of me, between my legs with her chin resting on my stomach.

"Yeah. Hows Zoe and the rest?"

"They're good. They actually wanted me to ask if you'd come out with us tomorrow night. They want to go to this bar down the street, apparently it's really fun. It's not a club, but there's live music and dancing and stuff. Do you want to go?"

"Ads, you never go out."

She shrugs. "I do sometimes. A little bit more lately since I turned eighteen."

"Do you...do you drink?"

"Harry, stop acting like I'm doing heroine or something. It's not a big deal," she says, rolling her eyes.

"You were pretty against it before," I remind her. Adie doesn't party, she doesn't drink.

"Well I got over it. It's not like I'm going out and getting drunk every weekend, I just go out with my friends once in a while." She rolls off of me and gets up, walking over to her closet and pulling off the shirt she's wearing. "Louis texted me, he said he wanted to come this weekend, too."

"Yeah, he asked me about it," I say, laying further down on the bed. My hands rest behind my head and she pulls one of my t-shirts on.

"You didn't want him to come?" she asks, sliding her jeans off. She gets back on the bed and lays beside me, propped up on one elbow so she can look down at me.

"It's not that I didn't want him to come, I just wanted to be able to spend time with you. I haven't been here in a while."

"I haven't seen him in a while either."

"You'd rather spend time with him than me?" I snap.

"That's not what I said, don't twist my words," she says, equally annoyed. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I don't want to fight with her. Again. Seems like we've been doing that a lot more than we used to.

"I'm sorry," I say finally. I open my eyes and put my arm around her, pulling her to lay beside me. "I'm tired from driving. Can we just go to sleep?"

"Sure," she says quietly. I want to know what she's thinking, how she actually feels about this relationship. She doesn't talk to me about that stuff and whenever I ask her she just says that we shouldn't worry about it, that everything will work out itself. What does that even mean?

The next night

"Adie, stop," I laugh, swatting her hands away from my stomach. She just keeps giggling and trying to tickle me while I try to unlock her door. It made me nervous that she's drinking and stuff now, especially since I'm not here most of the time, but I have to admit that she's hilarious when she's drunk.

"I bet I can run faster than you," she says suddenly. Before I can ask what she's talking about she takes off down the hallway, sprinting around the corning. What?

Running as fast as I can to catch up to her I follow her steps, turning the corner to see her turning the next one. Damn she's actually kind of fast. It doesn't take long for me to catch up to her, though, and when I do I throw her over my shoulder.

"Harry!" she squeals. "Put me down! Nice bum, by the way."

I laugh and she slaps my ass- quite hard, if I can say so- while I carry her back to the apartment. I finally manage to unlock the door and I drop her on the couch. Gemma said she was going to go out with some friends tonight so if she does come back, it won't be for a while.

"Where are you going?" she whines.

"To get you some water." I fill a glass and walk back over to her, lifting her head so I can sit down with it on my lap. She takes the glass and half sits up so she can chug the whole thing. Apparently she's thirsty.

"Okay, what now?" she asks, setting the glass down. I just laugh and she stares up at me. "What? Why are you laughing? Let's go on an adventure!"

"An adventure?" She nods. "Sounds exciting, but it's almost two in the morning and I'm tired."

"Harry," she whines, dramatically drawing out my name.

"Give it five minutes, babe. You'll be fast asleep."

"No, I'm going to stay up all night." She abruptly stands and starts dancing around the room singing 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk. She just repeats the same two lines though, We're up all night for good fun, we're up all night to get lucky. She can be quite entertaining, this one.

"Okay crazy." I stand, still laughing, wrapping my arms around her waist so she stops dancing. She giggles and wraps her arms around my neck. "You're so weird."

"Yeah, but you still love me, right?"

"I don't know, tonight was a real eye-opener."

"Harry!" She pouts dramatically and I just laugh a little. I peck her lips once before taking her bottom lip between my teeth, gently tugging on it. She sighs and pulls my face to hers, kissing me hard. She suddenly pulls back and I'm the one pouting.

"Tell me you love me," she says cutely. I brush my nose against hers a few times and she giggles again.

"I love you. Always and forever."

With that I kiss her again, lifting her up and carrying her to her bedroom.
