Breathe

HARRYS P.O.V

I heard my door open and some one switch the light on, my eyes responded to the light rather unpleasantly

“ Go away I’m sleeping” I turned to put a pillow over my head

“ Harry we need to tell you something” Louis’s voice was quiet and broke half way through his sentence. Something’s wrong. I removed the pillow from my head and sat up to see all the boys standing at the end of my bed.

I squinted at them

“ What?” I asked harshly, I’m fucking annoyed at their 3am wake up call.

“ It’s Nina” Louis whispered. My face quickly turned serious and my body started heating up.

“ What about Nina” My eyes widened

“ Tia called Louis, she’s been in an accident, Louis woke us all up to tell you” Liam said softly. I froze up and felt sweat produce on my spine, I could feel my chest getting smaller and smaller as tears started forming in my eyes. I quickly wiped away the first one to fall.

“ Is she okay?” I was practically yelling

“ It doesn’t sound good Hazz” Niall looked at the floor.

I jumped out of bed and threw on a pair of jeans. I need to go to her, I never should have left.

“ What are you doing?” Zayn put his hand on my shoulder, which I disregarded coolly.

“ She’s my girlfriend for fuck sakes I’m going” I ran around my room, collecting things I may need like my phone and its charger

“ We should wait till morning,” Liam added

“ No I need to go now” I grabbed my passport and jacket

“ I love her” I closed my eyes briefly, remember her and I happy together in New York. I love her, I love Nina this accident was my fault. I never should have left her. I let the tears fall freely from my eyes.

“We’ll come with you” Zayn smiled weekly at me

“ Yeah we’re here for you through anything” Louis patted my back.

“ Dani has her first ultra sound tomorrow, and Nialls going back to visit his parents” Liam frowned

“ Me Lou El and Harry will go” Zayn said quickly before leaving the room.

“ We’re going to go get El and our stuff okay Hazz?” I nodded before sitting down on my bed for a breather. Nina, my Nina, hurt, the thought was completely unbearable. I felt my collar bones getting wet from the tears running down my face and neck. I sniffled and rubbed my face, removing any visible tears.

“ The next flight to New York is at 5:45am,” Lou pointed at the flights board

“ It’s 4:30 now so we need to go quick” Zayn looked at me

“ Harry, lets go” El pulled on my coat, I had zoned out.

The flight was unbearable we got into New York at 12 and I couldn’t take it any longer. I ran off plane and through the airport, sprinting to the cabs.

“ HARRY SLOW DOWN” Lou caught up to me

“ Fuck Harry stop this, she’s going to be okay,” He said trying to catch his breath

“ How the hell do you know? Tia said it was life threatening, I cant lose her Lou, she’s everything to me” I felt my eyes watering up.

“ Don’t think like that when you haven’t even seen her yet,” Lou said before hailing a cab.


TIAS P.O.V
We walked into the white walled medicine smelling hospital room to see Nina, unconscious hooked up to what seemed to be a thousand tubes and wires, a beeping sound would produce from her monitor every couple seconds. Her face was blue and purple and there were stiches on her forehead, and jaw she had casts on her left leg, neck and right arm. Her body was motionless and lifeless. I walked over to her and held onto her hand. My mom had broken down in the corner hysterically crying.

“ Mr. and Mrs. Jones?” a woman in blue entered the room

“ Erm yes?” Dad stood up from his chair next to Nina

“ Nina came in here with life threatening injuries, her left Tibia had a clean cut protrusion threw her skin, her radius in her right arm had shattered upon impact, she has four skull cracks, two of which travel almost half way around her skull. Her neck is sprained, she also had internal bleeding, her survival rate at this point is 46% if she wakes up, we did a surgery almost as soon as she came in to prevent the internal bleeding from happening again, more surgeries are going to be needed if she wakes”

The women smiled at us kindly, fucking bitch this is my best friend and you can’t tell me anything other than bullshit, I was pissed.

“ Thank you” My dads voice cracked as he went over to take Nina’s hand crying.

HARRYS P.O.V
“ Tia we’re pulling up to the hospital” Lou said into his phone before hanging up

“ Okay so she’s in room 63 on the 6th floor, which is the intensive care unit” he looked down to his knotted fingers.

“ Hazz, Tia said she doesn’t look like herself, she’s beat up from the accident, she said I should prepare you” His eyes stayed on his fingers

“ I just want to see her alive, that’s all I want” Fresh tears threatened to fall

“ Just relax, It’s all going to be fine” Zayn tapped my knee. El rested her head on Lou’s shoulder and began to cry.

We got into the elevator, I hate hospitals, I hate the smell, I hate the look and I hate seeing sick people. The ride to the 6th floor felt like an eternity.

“ Lets go lads” Zayn pulled on the sleeve of my coat. I took a deep breath and left the elevator. As soon as we walked out we saw the surgical board, Louis and El walked over to the front desk. I looked up and down for Nina’s name. There it was at 11:30pm yesterday, she had surgery before we even knew she was in the accident, my Nina was operated on. The thought of this made me sick and I felt like I was going to vomit. Zayn patted my back as I used the wall to help keep me standing.

“ Lets go see Nina” Louis walked up to us with a crying El

“ Are you sure you want to see her now Hazz, you look like you’re going to pass out” Zayn’s eyebrows furrowed as he stared at me, my face had no doubt went pale, I was finding it hard to breath, I just want to see my Nina alive.

“ I want to see my girlfriend” I forced myself to say. I placed my fingers on the bridge of my nose as we walked down the hallway; jeez I was really a mess.

“ HARRY ZAYN LOUIS EL” I saw Tia sprinting down the hall full force at us before jumping into Zayn’s arms. An older couple followed down the hall giving us questionable looks.

“ These are mine and Nina’s parents” Tia answered my confused look, the women had tearstains all down her cheeks and the man look liked he had been through hell in the past 24 hours.

“ Mom, Dad, this is Nina’s boyfriend Harry” She pushed my shoulder forcing me closer to them.

“ Mr. and Mrs. Jones” I held out my hand to shake the fathers, he gave me a hard glare, which I was use to from the fathers.

“ Please call us Sarah and Dom” Sarah smiled small at us

“ This is Louis, Zayn and El” Tia continued. I just want to see Nina. I tried to peer threw the door as introductions were taking place but I saw nothing.

“ Can I see her?” I asked frustrated

“ Of course dear” Sarah opened the door and I saw water forming in her eyes as she looked through the door.

“ We’ll be out here if you need us mate” I felt Louis’s hand on my shoulder. I nudged it off and went through the door I just want Nina.

I fell to my knees as I saw my beautiful girlfriend lying on the hospital bed lifeless. Tears pricked my eyes as I got up to walk to her side. I grabbed the chair and dragged it over to beside her. I grabbed her cold hand and placed it into mine bringing it up to my mouth and kissing it repetitively.
“ I’m so so sorry baby please wake up I love you please” I felt my tears falling down from my eyes getting worse. I put my head on the bed, still holding onto her hand.

“ Please wake up baby I love you” I managed to force through tears. I heard the door swing open. I looked up to see Zayn, Louis, and El mouths all open. I quickly wiped the tears from my face and sniffled.

“ She’s going to be okay, she going to wake up” I rambled on

“ Harry we need to let her rest” Louis took three steps closer

“ No, I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving her, and I need to be here when she wakes up” A women in blue walked through the door

“ Sorry dear, but unless your immediate family or her husband you can’t stay past visiting hours”
“ I’m her fiancée” I lied quickly, there was no way in hell I was leaving, the group all flashed me looks as the women nodded and left the room.

“ Can she hear me?” I asked

“ Who knows, she’s in an induced coma to help repair her injuries so it is possible” Sarah answered

“ We’re going to go get checked into a hotel” Louis walked over and kissed Nina’s forehead. Zayn had to take a hysterical El out of the room.

“ Hazz have your phone on you at all times understand” He was talking to me like he was my father. I nodded and waved him out of the room.

I spent the rest of the day holding Nina’s hand, nurses and doctors came and went telling me I should go and they’d call me if she woke up.

“ Harry you need to eat something” Tia’s kind voice spoke to me like a child

“ I’ll eat when she wakes up” I glanced over and my girlfriend, she was white as a ghost.

“ Harry quit it, you can do this to yourself, its bad enough with Nina, you need to pull it together” Her voice got louder

“ I don’t know what to do” Tears pricked my eyes and I felt a warm arm around my shoulders.

“ You really do love her,” Tia whispered

“ More than anything” I closed my eyes briefly

“ I know the answer is going to be no but do you want to come back to the apartment and get some sleep?” She asked softly

I shook my head from side to side and claimed refuge on the reclining chair placed in the corner of the room.

“ Night Harry” she said half way out the door

“ Night”
