No Remorse

One

My surroundings were men. Cheering on their bets, pressuring one of the two in the ring to win. The sweat now running from their foreheads. I watched intently underneath my leather and dark hood, curious to see if the losing opponent would make a comeback.

Soon, the expected happened and the stronger man won. Gloating on his victory like he won the gold olympic cup. This to be enough excitement for me, as my body now craved a drag from a cig.

I slipped past the obnoxious crowd behind me, heading for the back exit leading to an ally. Doing the routine to light my addiction, and inhaling it through long breaths, leaning against the brick stone wall behind me.

The weather was at a medium. Chilly, but for once not raining. Making it easier to enjoy my smoke.

Only a matter of minutes before the same typical stoners joined me in what the gym calls the pit. Some familiar, some not.

It got rowdy, like inside. People arguing over their pick, pissed over the fact they won or others couldn't handle their loss. I thought of it as music to my ears, more entertainment than television.

"You're the girl from the party last week." His voice brought back memories.

Simply, I ignored him. Acting as if he wasn't there.

"I know you can hear me." He now whispered closer, passing my comfort zone.

I looked up merrily, only to look away when he gave me the same intense gaze from the party. The cocky grin also appearing.

"What's a girl like you getting caught up in places like this, huh?" His breath drenched in cheap mints.

"What's a guy like you have the right to judge someone he doesn't even know?" I now mimicked, giving into his game.

"You know that this kind of fighting is illegal, right?" He moved past my question.

"Nice chatting." With that I leaned off the wall, down towards the streets.

It's been a few days since the ring fight, down at the gym in the outskirts. I've managed to push past my growing irritation for the rude encounter with the strange boy and the cocky grin. Why be mad at someone you don't even know the name to.

"You're coming to tomorrow's party, right?" My friend, Bonnie, asked through the phone.

"There's not much else to do tomorrow." I exhaled a sigh.

"Good, because I want you to meet someone." Her voice was hopeful, excited even.

"And who's that?"

"Harry. Harry Styles."
