Fix Me

Chapter 5

Lana's POV

I push my way through the crowd and finally manage to get to the bar. I lean over it, looking for the bartenders. There's a guy and a girl. Obviously the bitch ignores me, so I lean forward and push my boobs up a little. Trust me, I don't like doing that. But it's effective, let's face it. After he's done with the drinks he's making he eyes me and comes over.

"What can I get for you, love?"

The name sends a pang through my chest. I try not to let it show, but it was probably obvious. "Two whiskey sours, please."

"Right away," he says, winking at me. He's cute enough, I guess. I pay him for the drinks and start making my way back to the table. there's someone sitting in the bench across from Lou and Eleanor. El gets up when she sees me and takes her drink, then links her arm in mine and leads me over to the table.

"Lana, this is Chase," she says, pointing to the spot I was sitting in earlier. Now there is an alarmingly attractive guy sitting there. "Chase, this is our friend Lana."

I give him a shy smile and slide into the booth next to him when El finally releases me.

He extends his arm. "Chase." I shake it and smile at him again.

"Lana. I'm sorry, but you look oddly familiar." I swear I've seen him before, but I can't think of where.

"Do we have developmental psychology together? Professor Trudy?"

"Yes! That's what it is!" I slap the table and he chuckles at my excitement. I take a sip of my drink nervously. Way to play it cool, Lana.

"So, how do you two know each other?" I ask, pointing between Louis and Chase.

"It's kind of a funny story," he says, laughing and looking at Louis. He looks back at me and I can't help but notice that his eyes are green. They're nice, but they don't have those little flecks of gold like-

No. I will not think about him tonight.

"Well, funny for me, embarrassing for you," Louis says, putting his arm around El. Chase laughs again and proceeds to tell the story.

"Well I was walking to class last year and me being the idiot that I am, I slipped on some ice in the quad. Fell right on my ass, like completely wiped out."

"Oh my gosh," I say, laughing as I imagine him sprawled out on the ground.

"Yeah. It actually really hurt, you meanie," he says, poking my sides. "Anyway, Louis suddenly laid down beside me and yelled, 'snow angels! Great idea, mate!'. I think it was an attempt to help, but everyone just laughed at us more."

"Yeah, leave it to Louis to make an embarrassing situation even worse," I say, narrowing my eyes at him. He just shrugs innocently and takes a swig of his beer.

"How do you know them?" Chase asks me.

"Oh, we've been friends for a long time. We went to the same high school."

"Really? And you're still friends?" I nod and he looks impressed. "That's awesome. I lost touch with all of my friends from high school almost right away. People move on, I guess."

If only you knew, I think. We all continue chatting and every time I talk to Chase I notice El and Louis whispering to each other so I can't hear them. They seem to be arguing about something.

"El, let's go dance," I suggest, sliding off my seat and taking her hand to pull her with me to the dance floor. "We'll be back, boys," I say, waving at Chase. He smiles and I can feel him watching me walk away.

"He's so cute, isn't he! You guys seem to get along really well," El says as we move into the crowd and start moving to the music.

"He's really nice." I have to admit, I really enjoy talking to him. He's not awkward at all and he seems really comfortable with himself. Do you know what I mean? Not like overly confident, just knows who is type thing. He seems like a really good guy. Plus, he's definitely the most attractive one here. "What were you and Louis talking about?"

Her eyes go wide before she regains her composure. "Just talking," she says, shrugging and avoiding my eyes. She's the worst liar on the planet, I swear.

"Eleanor, don't lie to me. What's going on?"

"Don't worry about it, Lana. Louis is taking care of it."

"Taking care of what?" I ask, but I don't get an answer because of some asshole that steps between us. He's huge.

"Hey babe. Want to dance?" he says deeply, putting his hands on my waist. So I guess he wasn't actually asking me.

"Sorry, I was just dancing with my friend," I say, turning down is offer and trying to step out of his grasp. Apparently he doesn't get the picture.

"It's just one dance," he says, pulling me back against him. What the fuck, why do guys insist on doing this!

"I said no, fuck off," I spit, pushing against his chest. His grip tightens on my hips, fingers digging into my skin. "You're hurting me!" I yell, pushing harder.

"Back off, mate." I look to the side to see Chase resting his hand on the guy's shoulder. He grins at me and let's go.

"You're lucky this prick was here to save you," he says darkly. It sends chills down my spine as he walks away. Chase leans down to my ear so I can hear him.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a few bruises from his fingertips tomorrow, but he didn't really get a chance to do anything. I shake my head, no. "He didn't get a chance. Thank you."

He smiles and holds his hand out to me, leading me back to the table. I take it and surprise myself by pulling him back to the dance floor. He looks unsure, but does it anyway. I turn and press my back against his chest, hips swaying against his as the bass pounds through the speakers. He's a good dancer. Not as good as him, though.

Fuck.

Chase is definitely a good guy. He keeps his hands on my waist, not letting them roam around my body like any other guy would have. I lace my fingers over his and slide his hands down a little to the top of my thighs.

Eleanor's POV

"Aww, they're so cute!" I squeal as Louis comes back with my drink. How many have I had now? Who cares, doesn't matter. I'm just so happy Lana actually seems to be interested in Chase! I would feel even better if Louis hadn't messed it up. "I can't believe you told him where we are, Lou, you're so dumb sometimes."

"He doesn't know that Lana's here. He's texting me when he's here and I'm going to meet him outside, don't worry about it. Lana won't know a thing."

"And you want me to lie to her about all of this?"

"You won't have to lie, babe. She won't ask anything because she has no idea."

"She does, Louis. She asked me what we were arguing about. She's not stupid," I say, keeping an eye on her and chase while Louis stands in front of the bench I'm sitting on.

"Don't worry about it, El. I can handle Harry."

The sound of his name makes me mad. He hurt Lana more than he realizes. What an asshole. Louis was pissed too, but I think he got more of an explanation than the rest of us. All the rest of us got was that Zayn forced him to go back. That's the extent of what Lana knows too. But I think there's something else. There has to be right? Harry wouldn't just willingly leave, would he?

I don't know. My head is spinning.

Harry's POV

As the cab pulls up outside the club I scrunch my eyebrows. "Are you sure this is it?" I ask the driver.

"Yeah, I'm sure."

I pay him and get out, texting Louis that I'm across the street. This place looks like a good time. It doesn't look like a place Lana would ever go, though. She really must not be with them. I wait for a while and I'm about to call him when I see Louis walk out of the club, looking around to see where I am.

"Louis!" I shout, waving at him. He spots me and jobs across the street. "Good to see you, Lou. How've you been?"

"What are you doing here, Harry?" He doesn't look very impressed. Not that I blame him.

"I know you're pissed at me for leaving without saying anything, but I had to."

"No, you didn't. You could have talked to me. I would have helped you."

"You wouldn't have been able to help me, Louis, trust me."

He scoffs. "Why would I trust you. Look, Harry, I'm not mad at you. It's been two years, I really don't care anymore. I would be your friend again; I didn't hold a grudge. But I've been here this whole time with Lana. You have no idea what you did to her."

I can feel myself flinch a little at that last sentence. I don't know what to do at this point. Of course he would be protective of Lana.

"Is she here?" I ask quietly, looking behind him at the bar.

"No."

"You're a shit liar, Lou."

"I'm not lying."

I stare at him for a minute before deciding that he is. She's here. She's here. She's inside, right there. So close to me.

"You can't go in there, Harry," he says, pulling my gaze back to his. He knows what I'm thinking. Of course I'm going in, I need to see her. Talk to her.

"Louis, I haven't seen her in two years. I'm going in."

"That's a bad idea," he says, stopping me by putting his hand on my chest. "She's been drinking. And she's not alone."

What the fuck? "What are you talking about?" I ask, looking back and forth between him and the bar. Is there a guy in there with her?

"She's with my friend Chase."

"You set her up?"

"Yes."

"What the fuck, Louis!"

"Harry, I'm trying to help her move on! She's been miserable these last two years and it's your fault. Do you know what seeing you again is going to do to her? Look, trust me she isn't ready for this. Not tonight. She's finally having some fun. Don't ruin it."

"Fun with another guy." I say quietly, running my hands through my hair. Obviously she's trying to move on. Who wouldn't? I was so stupid to think I could just come back and make everything better.

He sighs and takes out some keys, sliding one off the ring and handing it to me. "Here, go back to my place. Niall is there, you can stay with us tonight until you figure this out. But don't try to get near her, Harry, understand?" I nod, looking at the key in my hands. "I'm not kidding. I won't let you hurt her anymore."

He gives me the directions to his building and I decide to walk so I can clear my head and figure out what to do.

Lana's POV

"Do you want to go outside?" I yell to Chase, who's just pulled me off the dance floor. It's so hot in here it's unbelievable. He nods and takes my hand in his to lead me to the door of the club. We finally squeeze our way out and walk down the building a little, sitting on the bench they have outside. Lucky for us, it's empty.

"You're a pretty good dancer," he compliments, resting his arm on the back of the bench behind me.

"You're not so bad yourself," I counter, running my fingers through my hair. It's probably an absolute mess right now. I look up and see Louis walking over from across the street. He looks mad. Why is he out here? What was he-

Holy shit.

My heart jumps into my throat when I see dark curly hair turning the corner and going out of my sight. It can't be him. He's not here.

It looked like him, though.

"Lana?"

"What? Oh, sorry Chase. One sec," I say, standing and walking to Louis. Chase follows me.

"You look like you've seen a ghost or something," he jokes.

"I think I did," I say quietly, low enough that he doesn't hear me. "Louis!" he stops before going back inside. He seems surprised to see me.

"Lana? What are you doing out here? How long have you been outside?" He asks quickly, looking behind me.

"Who were you just talking to?" I ask him softly. His eyes slowly land back on mine. He looks nervous. "Louis, did I just see..."

He stares back at me, not saying anything. That's all the answer I need.

"Oh my gosh." He's here? No, that isn't possible. He's gone. "I need to go home," I say, turning on my heels and walking away from the boys in the direction of our buiiding. Louis grabs my arm and stops me from walking.

"You're not walking home alone, Lana. Just come back inside and we'll get Eleanor and we can all go home."

"What was he doing here?" I ask him, getting angry now. If Louis knew he was here, why didn't he say anything to me? Louis just stares at me with a pained expression. I am so sick of them babying me. "Damn it, Louis, just answer the question! It was him, wasn't it? Is he back? What is he doing here?"

"I don't know, he did-"

"Don't lie to me!" I shout, catching him off guard. "I deserve to know."

"I'm not lying, Lana. He didn't say."

Is he back? What about Zayn? How did he know where I am? Louis must see that I have a million questions racing through my mind.

"Chase, stay here with her. I'm going to get Eleanor and we are going home."

Chase is obviously uncomfortable. He has no idea what's going on. "Do you...Are you okay? Do you want to sit down?"

I don't know what to do. I feel frozen. I can't speak or move. A million thoughts are racing through my mind; memories, his musical laugh, his amazing voice, his soft lips, his sudden departure, my broken heart. Old wounds still waiting to heal. And now they're being ripped open again.

El and Louis come out of the club and we all walk home in silence. I'm too stunned to speak. I was not ready for this. I honestly didn't think I would ever see him again. The first few months I was hoping he would come back, but he didn't. So I let it go. He would never be a part of my life the way I dreamed he would.

My dreams have been haunted by that deep voice and those piercing green eyes. For two years, they're all I've been able to think about. Now he's back. Is he? I don't know, but if he is what am I supposed to do with that? Just forget about how miserable I've been since he left? Just forgive the fact that he left without so much as a goodbye? Am I supposed to just forgive that he left right after we lost our baby? That he shattered my heart and left me alone to pick up the pieces?

When we get back to the building Chase says his goodbyes and keeps walking. He lives pretty close to us, apparently. I feel bad that I'm acting so weird, but I can't help it. Louis and Eleanor get me up to our apartment and I go straight to my room and into my closet, taking out the shoebox I have hidden up there. They both follow me hesitantly, not sure what I'm about to do.

I lift the lid and feel tears start to well up in my eyes. There's so many memories in this box, memories I just couldn't stand to throw away even if I did want to erase him from my memory sometimes. It just hurt so much. I find what I'm looking for and lift the small photo out of the box, the picture from the sonogram that day at the doctor's office. The only think I have left of my baby.

Mine and Harry's baby.

I can't hold it in anymore. All the pain and the heartbreak and the anger from the last two years come rushing out in a stream of tears and painful sobs. El rushes to my side, taking the box out of my hand and holding me while I cry. Louis leaves at some point, because when I look up he's not in the doorway anymore. I just continue to cry and cry until I think I'm completely dried up. Then more tears spill from my eyes.

Eventually darkness takes over.
