Chapter 37

*December

Lana's POV

"Harry?"

I turn over and reach for him beside me to find the bed empty. I frown to myself and look around the room, which is also empty of him. I look at the annoying red light of the alarm clock to see that it isn't even 7 am yet. Why am I awake?

Against my body's protest I slowly sit up and stand from the bed, stretching my arms over my head. I slowly walk out of Harry's bedroom and down the hall. I rub my eyes as I turn the corner, blinded by the light on above the dining table where Harry is sitting. His books are spread in front of him and he looks quite concentrated.

"What are you doing?" I ask, putting my arm around his shoulder and leaning onto him. He wraps his arm around my and rubs my back without looking up from his books.

"Some last-minute studying."

"Harry you're ready. You know this stuff like the back of your hand." I reach up with my free hand and push his hair away from his face; he still has major bed-head. "Come back to bed. If you don't sleep enough all this studying won't matter anyway."

Harry has his last exam in a few hours; I finished mine two days ago, so I've been helping him prepare for this one. It's his hardest by far, according to him, and he really wants to do well. His study habits this semester have been quite surprising; he has really high grades in all his classes and he's really interested in what he's studying.

"I'll be there in five minutes."

"Harry."

He looks up at me and instantly smiles. "Nice hair." Clearly referring to what I can only assume is some major bed-head.

I laugh and ruffle his. "Yours isn't so pretty right now, either." He laughs and looks back down at his books. I put my hands on either side of his face and make him look at me again. "You're ready. Stop stressing out about this. You're going to ace this exam without a doubt. Now please come back to bed and cuddle with me."

"If I fail I'm blaming you."

"I'm okay with that. Only because I know you're not going to fail." I take his hand in both of mine and pull him up and back to the bedroom. I jump onto the bed, making him chuckle at me while he slowly crawls up to the pillows. He collapses onto them on his stomach and I pull the covers up around his body. I lay on my side and put one hand on his back, tracing shapes with the tip of my finger while he drifts back to sleep. He's been so stressed out about these exams and that never happens; Harry is the most relaxed person I know. He's completely exhausted.

"Stop," he groans, keeping his eyes closed.

"Stop what?" I always draw on his back like that. He usually likes it; it puts him to sleep.

"Stop staring at me."

"How do you do that!"

He smiles an opens his eyes a little bit. "I'm awesome." I roll my eyes and he closes his again, then turns his head so he's looking in the opposite direction.

"What are you doing?" I whine.

"I can't sleep with you staring at me like a creep."

"It's not my fault you're so pretty to look at." He laughs softly but doesn't respond or move. "Harry." Nothing. Well then. I slide over and climb onto his back, resting my chin on the back of his shoulder so I can see his face again. He opens one eye.

"Really?"

"What?"

"I thought we were sleeping right now."

"I don't need sleep, I'm done my exams."

"Okay so when you asked me to come back in here you really just wanted me to entertain you?"

I shrug and shimmy down his back a little, folding my arms in front of me and resting my chin on them. He sighs and once against tries to fall asleep. Realistically it isn't fair that he's so attractive. My boyfriend is prettier than me I think. That's probably bad for me but at least I have him to stare at all the time.

"Harry." He sighs but says nothing. "You're pretty." I can see him trying not to smile. I reach forward and poke his cheek once but he doesn't react. I do it again. Still nothing. I do it once more. I squeal and pull my hand back when he quickly turns his head and tries to bite my finger. He suddenly turns over, turning onto his back and pinning me under him. After a minute of my giggling he rolls off of me, laying on his side and putting an arm around me to pull me against his chest.

"You're nothing but trouble," he says in a breathy voice, eyes closed. "Let me sleep."

"What if I don't want to?" I reach on hand up and run my fingers along the swallows on his chest.

"Don't test me, woman."

I giggle and wrap my arm around his waist, snuggling into him. "Fine."

Harry's POV

"Harry!" I turn and see Louis running towards me. "What are you here for?"

"Just wrote my last exam. What's up?"

"Me too, actually. When are you guys going home?"

"Either tomorrow or Saturday. Do you guys want to drive with us?"

He nods and we start walking down the hall. "So, you're really going to do it?"

"Do what?" He raises his eyebrows at me. Right. That. I laugh and nod my head. "I am. I've got it all planned out. My mum and her dad are going to help me with everything. They're so excited."

"They're kids are getting engaged so I would hope they're excited. If they weren't that would be a problem."

I told Lou when I got my apartment that I was planning to propose sometime soon. Getting my own place was the starting point for starting a future with Lana. I know we're still really young, but we're going to be together anyways. Might as well make it official. And forever. That's the part I'm excited about.

I have a whole evening planned for us. I don't want to do something cliche like take her to a restaurant and hide the ring in the cake. It's got to be special, because that's what Lana is. I want it to be a night that she'll always remember. When I told my mum she practically broke my ear drum she screamed so loud. She's so excited. Gemma is probably going to be annoyed; she's been waiting for like a year for a proposal.

Louis has had the hardest time of his life keeping this secret from everyone. Every time we're alone he talks about it because if he doesn't he says he'll explode and tell everyone, including Lana. If he did that I would kill him. Literally.

After we go our separate ways I go to the store on my way home to get a bottle of wine. Something nice for us to celebrate being done this semester with. School has been better than I expected it to be; I love my classes and the material is right up my alley. I definitely made the right choice.

For once everything in my life is working out. Lana and I are perfect, school is goo, my family is happy, my friends are happy and I really can't complain. Niall and I are even back to normal; he's definitely over Lana now. Mia finally caved and agreed to be his girlfriend, and he's so in love with that girl that there's no way he likes Lana anymore. And it's clear that he doesn't. Everything is perfect.

Lana's POV

I sit on the bed and slide on my shoes onto my feet, then stand and walk over to the dresser where some of my jewellery currently resides. I've been leaving a lot of my stuff at Harry's place; I'm here all the time anyway. I decide to only wear jewellery from Harry tonight. That includes my charm bracelet, which I never take off anyways, and a diamond heart necklace he gave me for valentine's day in high school. When I'm satisfied with my outfit I walk out into the living area.

I've set up a special dinner for us tonight to celebrate being done with the semester. It went really well for both of us, so I think it's only fitting. I made the fanciest meal I could managed: grilled chicken breast with stuffed peppers and grilled vegetables. I'm actually impressed with how everything turned out. The table is set for two, one place on the end and the other next to it to the right. Intimate. There's a few candles lit and the lights are dimmed for a romantic mood. The dishes aren't exactly fancy, but I folded the napkins nicely and set everything up the best I could. I hope he's happy with it.

As if on cue the front door opens, revealing a Harry that finally doesn't appear to be stressed. He shuts the door and stops in his tracks when he sees what I did. He slowly looks over at me, a smile creeping onto his face.

"What's this?" he asks, setting a bottle of wine on the table and walking towards me.

"This is for you." We simultaneously wrap our arms around each other. "How did it go?"

"Smashed it." I roll me eyes and he chuckles. "It was good. You look beautiful, by the way. Did you get all dressed up just for me?"

"I did." I bring his face down to mine an kiss him. "Are you hungry?"

"For food or for you?"

"That was lame," I giggle. He smirks and holds me tighter against him.

"You've got me all flustered." He leans down and kisses me again, longer this time. "You really do look amazing in this dress."

"Thanks baby."

"Can I take it off you?" he asks cheekily. I laugh and kiss him once more before pulling back and leading him to the table.

"Maybe later."

"Maybe?"

"First we're going to have a nice romantic dinner like normal adults." He sits at the end of the table and I sit to his side. "I did my best with the food...I hope it tastes okay."

"It looks great," he says warmly. "Oh! I bought wine." He stands and walks to the other end of the table to get the bottle, making his way to the kitchen for the corkscrew. "What did you do today?"

"This." We laugh and he comes back with the now open bottle. He pours me a glass first, then himself. "I wanted to have a relaxing night with you. I know you've been stressed and tired. Now you're done and we can just have a quiet night."

"I love you," he says, standing a little and leaning over the table to quickly press his lips to mine.

"Well wait until after we eat to say that. If you get food poisoning from me you might not anymore."

"At least we'd have food poisoning together," he says, taking a sip of his wine.

"So cheesy today, Styles," I tease. He just smiles. I start scooping food onto his plate then my own. Not to brag, but it does look good. Hopefully it tastes good. I wait to take a bite of mine. He lifts a piece of chicken to his mouth and I watch his face for a reaction. His eyes go wide.

"Babe, this tastes really good." He takes another bite and then starts on the stuffed pepper. "I had no idea you could cook. I've been doing all the work for no reason apparently."

"I think this is more of a stroke of good luck. You'll definitely still have to do the cooking."

We talk about random things while we eat, like what we'll be doing for Christmas this year and what to get our families. I love talking to this boy. I feel like we could talk about nothing for hours and I wouldn't get bored. We're comfortable when we're not talking, but we rarely run out of things to talk about. It's the best feeling. When we've both eaten far too much and my dress is about to rip open from the amount I've ingested, we continue sitting at the table and drinking the wine Harry brought. I love this apartment; I've basically ben living here and apparently Lou has basically been living with Eleanor.

"I wonder when they'll get married," I ponder, sipping from my glass.

"I don't think it'll be that soon. I don't think either of them want to get married right now."

"That's weird."

He gives me a weird smile. "You think so?"

"They love each other and they've been together a long time. It's obvious they aren't going to break up ever so I don't get why they want to wait so long." Shit. He probably thinks this is me hinting at wanting to get married. I would marry him in a heartbeat, but I don't think he's going to want to for a long time. We're so young and Harry seems quite content with the current status of our relationship. I nervously sip on my wine and avoid his eyes. When I look back at him he's got an adorable smirk on his face, but it fades to a more serious look. He sets his wine glass down and I start panicking a little.

"I didn't mean that in like a 'why haven't you proposed kind of way.' I'm totally fine with not getting married yet if you don't want to. I mean I want to but it's totally fine because I'm happy the way we are and I know we're going to be together anyway."

"Lana."

I continue freaking out and my words come out faster and faster with each one. "I guess you never know what's going to happen, though. I mean you wouldn't want to suddenly get married and three years down the line when we're done school and all grown up realize that we hate each other or something. Plus weddings are expensive and I don't think-"

"Marry me."

I stop talking and my mouth drops open a bit. "What?" I breathe. He stares at me for a second and suddenly clamps his hand over his mouth. He looks just as surprised as I feel.

"Shit! I didn't mean to do that, it just sort of slipped out. Shit. I had this all planned. It was going to be special not just a random thing. I'm so dumb."

"Wait, wait." He stops and gives me a nervous look. "You're planning to propose?"

"Well I was but I sort of just ruined it." I stare at him in shock. He reaches across the table and takes my hand in his. "Can we just forget I said that? I know I bloody ruined everything, but-"

"Yes."

He stops and stares at me for a minute. "Yes what?"

"Yes, I'll marry you," I confirm, standing and moving to sit on his lap. He looks up at me adoringly and wraps his arms around me.

"Really?"

"I can't think of anything I want more." He smiles widely and hooks his hand around the back of my neck, bringing my lips down to his in the sweetest kiss we've ever shared. I get goosebumps as he pulls back and rubs his nose against mine.

"You have no idea how happy I am," he says softly. We stare into each other's eyes, absorbing what just happened. I squeal when he suddenly lifts me and carries me to the bedroom. He sits me on the edge of it and holds up one finger. "Hold on."

I watch curiously as he goes to his closet and digs through the pile of shoes on the ground to the back corner where he pulls out a small metal box. He opens it and lifts a stack of photos, then reaches in for a tiny velvet box.

"You really were planning to propose," I say quietly, more to myself than to him. He smiles and walks back to me, kneeling down on one knee in front of me. My heart starts beating really fast, even though I've already said yes. I feel tears start to prick my eyes. Harry looks up at me with so much love in his eyes I could just die. He takes my left hand in his as he starts to speak.

"Lana, I love you more than I could ever possibly describe to you. I can't think of anything I'd rather do than spend the rest of my life with you. You make me happier than I ever dreamed I could be and if you let me, I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way." I put my hand over my mouth when he lifts the lid of the small case, revealing the most beautiful ring I've ever seen in my entire life.

"Langley Anne Forester, will you marry me?" I stare into his eyes and smile a happy tear rolls down my cheek.

"Yes."
