Apocalyptic Love

Lia’s POV

The sun has been down for an hour now and everyone is yawning. Kylie was asleep in the very back in her new car seat. I leaned against the window and closed my eyes.

“Lia!” Ian shook me awake. It was still dark outside and all the boys were staring at me. Kylie was still asleep. I stretched and realized that the car was stopped on the side of the road.

“What do you guys want?” I asked sleepily.

“Look.” Louis said from the driver’s seat.

“What?” He pointed up towards the road where there was a faint light.

“What is that?” I said as I squinted my eyes to try to see it better.

“I don’t know.” Harry said.

“Then what do you want to do? You don’t even know if it’s clear or not.”

“That’s what we need to find out.” Liam whispered.

“What should we do? We at least need some sort of plan.” Ian said.

“I agree with Ian.” Zayn said. Niall nodded. There was a silence for a few minutes.

“Any ideas?” Harry said.

“Well I know one thing.” Liam said. “Kylie is going nowhere near whatever that thing is.”

“That goes without being said.” Louis said.

“So?” Niall asked.

“Well maybe we should start by sending just a few of us out there.” Harry said.

“Ooh! Then we could use the walky talkies to tell them if it’s clear or not. Or if something happened.” I added.

“Perfect!” Zayn said.

“Now we have to figure out who’s going.” Louis said.

“I am.” I said.

“No you’re not.” Harry and Ian said at the same time.

“Are we seriously doing this again?” I asked.

“Do you remember what happened last time you went?” Harry said.

“What happened last time?” Ian asked.

“Harry! I told you not to say anything!” I yelled.

“What the hell happened last time?” Ian screamed.

“Shhh!” Liam said. “You guys are waking up Kylie!”

“Tell me!” Ian screamed again.

“Ian! Stop it! Please! Nothing happened!” I pleaded.

“Harry! Damnit tell me what happened to my sister!” Ian screeched.

“Okay fine!” Harry agreed. “Well one of them came and something happened but she’s fine now. Everything’s fine.”

“There is no way in hell that you’re going.” Ian said to me.

“Don’t tell me what I’m going to do.” I said simply. This seemed to make everyone in the car uncomfortable.

“All right who’s going?” Zayn asked.

“I am for the last time.” I said sternly.

“Stop it Lia! I’m just trying to protect you!” Said Ian.

“Protect me by keeping me hidden from the rest of the world? How am I going to learn how to survive? Let’s face it Ian we both know how someone can walk out on someone else right out of the blue.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Fine! For heaven’s sake Ian! Fine! I won’t go!” I said, frustrated. Harry and Ian had a look of satisfaction on their faces. I rolled my eyes and leaned my head against the window.

“Alright I’m going, who else?”

“I am.” Said Zayn.

“So am I.” said Niall.

“I am too.” Ian said.

“Alright that’s good. Niall, Zayn, Ian and I will go while Louis, Liam, Lia and Kylie will stay.” Harry said.

“Sexist jerks.” I muttered. Harry laughed, then tried to cover it up with a cough. They left the car then went to the back and opened the trunk. They each grabbed a flashlight, and their weapon. I stepped out of the car and approached Ian.

“Be careful.” I whispered into his ear. “I love you.” I said as I stood on y tippy toes to kiss him on the cheek.

“I will. I love you too Lia.” He said as he leaned down to kiss me on the cheek. He then jogged to catch up to the guys who were walking in the distance. He turned around and waved to me. I waved back.

I walked back into the car and plopped down on the leather seat. I grabbed a knitted quilt I always kept in my backpack and wrapped it around myself. Louis handed Liam and I walky talkies. I turned the knob on the side until the static turned into Harry’s voice.

“Helloooooo?”

“Yes?” I asked.

“Hey! I finally got them on the line guys!” Harry shouted. I could hear the other guys quieting him.

“Okay so how close are you to the area?” I asked.

“A few minutes away at least.”

“Can you see anything? Has it been overrun? Are you guys okay?”

“We aren’t close enough to see anything yet but we’ll be close enough in a few.”

“Just be careful okay? We’ll be on the line the entire time. I something goes wrong just yell and we’ll be right over there.”

“Don’t worry Lia. We’ll be fine.”

“Okay. Tell me when you get there.”

“Okay.” A few minutes passed. I was getting pretty worried. That is until the static came on and Harry’s voice came over the radio.

“We see it. It’s a little community that seems to be vacant. We’re going in the first house now.”

All of a sudden I hear the screams. I knew it was Ian. Then I heard the running. And the footsteps behind them. Louis and Liam heard it too. Then the line went blank.

“We have to help them!” I yelled, holding back the tears.

“Louis, I have to stay! We can’t take Kylie.” Liam said. Louis nodded. He and I got out of the car and popped the trunk. I grabbed my sword and Louis grabbed a handgun. I also grabbed a knife and went back in the car to hand it to Liam. He was in the back with Kylie in his arms ducking. I handed it to him.

“Stay safe and stay down.” I said as I handed it to him. He nodded and I locked the doors. Louis was waiting for me and then we started running towards the faint light in the distance, hoping and praying that we weren’t too late.
