"Look! Look! There he is! WOOOO!!"

I munched hungrily on the plate of nachos while Sammi played cheerleader for Liam. Not that I wasn't interested, because I was, my stomach was just higher on the priority list.

"Nice hockey score! What's a hockey score called?" she leaned down to ask me.

"Touchdown."

"TOUCHDOWNNN!!!" she yelled.

The amount of confused stares resulted in her slapping my arm.

"Jerk."

"Oops," I laughed. No sooner did I scoop one of my chips in cheese, and the glob fell on my shirt. I looked around, making sure no one saw my screw up before I got up to get a napkin.

Then ran into someone.

"Oh for God's sake!" I mumbled. I took a step back from the stranger, noticing he now also had a cheese stain.

"I'm so sorry, I'm such an idiot," I apologized, reaching for the napkins on the nearby table.

"Not an idiot, just clumsy," a voice chuckled. I looked up as I handed him a napkin, finding a familiar pair of blue eyes and blonde locks. I felt my face heat up as I searched for words to say.

"It's fine, really. I was just joking," he smiled again, wiping the goop off his jacket, "but you might want to get that off your shirt before it really stains."

"Oh, right," was all I could muster.

"Are you here with anyone?" he asked, as if we were good friends.

"Just my friend... You?"

"I'm just with myself. Mind if I sit with you two?"

"Uh, sure," I agreed, honestly not sure why he wanted to.

We walked back, and sat down by each other. Sammi didn't seem to notice, at least not until a good 10 minutes later.

"Oh... hi?" she squinted, as if trying to recall who he was.

"This is, uh..."

"Niall."

"Right. Niall, this is my friend Sammi," I introduced. It was honestly the most awkward situation. They both greeted each other before Sammi glued her eyes back on Liam.

"So, not to sound rude or anything, but why are you here?" I asked, ever-so-friendly.

"I like to watch a good game here and there. Do you go here?"

"Yeah. I'm a junior."

"Nice, I'm a freshman."

I raised an eyebrow.

"In college, that is."

"Oh. Nice."

We sat in strange silence for another ten or twenty minutes, with the exception of cheering people and buzzer noises. What was I supposed to tell this guy?

"You play any sports?" I asked.

"Eh, not really. I like to play once in a while, though. You?"

"I like soccer."

Another silence.

I didn't really know how to make Niall feel welcome, considering I barely knew him myself. I watched his face as he observed the game. Unlike the crowd, he wasn't obnoxious or loud when a good play happened. He just watched, as if it were a cheap sitcom.

"Is there something on my face?" he asked, peeking over at me.

"Oh, no, sorry," I blushed again.

"Not a hockey person?"

"Not really."

"Why'd you come?"

"I promised my friend I'd keep her company while she watched her hero," I pointed to Liam, who was now taking a break.

"I'm not really a hockey person either," he admitted.

"Why are you here, then?" I asked.

"I was hoping I'd run into someone."

"Did you find them?"

"Yep."

He didn't say anything else, so I figured it wasn't any of my business. I sighed and rested my head in my hand. The game wasn't even close to being over.

"Oh!" I said suddenly.

"Hm?" Niall wondered.

"I still have your scarf! I was gonna give it back but by the time I got in the car, you were gone."

"It's yours now. Keep it."

"No really, I have a ton of scarves."

"So do I. I'd just feel better if you kept it," he pushed. I finally agreed and dropped the subject.

With somewhere around another hour left of the game, I knew it was going to be a long night.
