When you Smile
Charlie: Crying over cracked eggs.
“I miss you so much Charlotte, you are coming home for Christmas again this year right?” I let out soft chuckle and nodded to only realize she wouldn’t be able to see me. “Of course mom, I could never miss Christmas with you but there are still 11 more months before that.”
I’m not going to lie; it’s tough being so far away from my family. I’ve always been so close with them but I’m living in London, England something I have dreamed of for so long! “Mom, I have to go. I love you! Give daddy and everyone else a huge hug for me okay?” I bit my lip gently hating for her phone call departure.
“Oh goodness, okay. I love you Charlotte Louise, give the girls lots of love for me and expect a package from all of us mommas.” I smiled, “Of course. Bye!” I waited for the dial tone on the other end and then hung up myself.
I slipped my phone into my back pocket and headed out of my room to find Ashlee, one of my best friends and of course one of my roomies flipping eggs on the skillet.
“Morning beautiful!” She sung happily cracking another egg. “The girls are on their way right now. Phoenix tag along with Karmyn and Violet for some coffee!” I smiled and nodded.
“Sweet, need any help with breakfast?” I muttered making my way into our little kitchen. “Sure thing sugar plum, can you start with the toast? The sausage patties are in the oven warming up, toast is the missing link to this breakfast.”
Ashlee, since I can recollect the last ten years of our friendship, has always been a on the go; fire cracker of a girl. “Honey’s we’re home!” Another sing song voice came through from the front.
“And we’ve brought a gift offering in exchange of breakfast… caffeine!” I laughed out as Violet came through with a cup carrier filled with yummy caffeine. “One Grande iced green tea latte, sweetened with extra motcha powder stuff for the Asian and a Venti hot vanilla latte for sparky.”
As Violet passed us our drinks she bowed pleasantly without spilling the drink itself. “Now that our breakfast is complete and everyone is here let us feast my dear sisters.” Phoenix spoke in her Irish accent.
“Mom called about an hour ago. She wanted me to pass on her love and to let y’all know that the mommies are sending us a package soon!” I spoke as I stuffed my face with toast.
“Yes! I hope my Lorelei Jane pumps are included within that package.” Ash chimed in, “I forgot them from when we visited last month. I’ve been incomplete ever since!” She stuffed her face with bacon.
We all broke into laughs and continued on with our breakfasts’ “So what’s on everyone’s agenda today?” Karmyn chimed in.
“Well, Jason has someone coming into the bar today. He’s looking into redecorating it and in his words “pimping it out”. Violet chuckled; I shook my head and finished off my eggs. “He wanted me to input my own opinions seeing as I’m the only chick tender there.”
“I will be at the bakery today. We’re jam packed with orders for wedding cakes so I won’t be home until late. I can pick up a late dinner so don’t set a plate for me.” Karmyn smiled.
“I have that callback for that photo-shoot I was telling you guys about. I’ll most likely be there all day also, Violet how long will you be at the bar?” Ashlee commented.
“All day probably. Nix, Char how about y’all.” My head shot up but Nix beat me to the punch, unfortunately everyone else’s day seemed more productive than mine.
“The office, Lorelei is letting me put together my own spread for February. I’m so stoked; my hard work is paying off! How about you Charlie?” All eyes were on me, honestly there was nowhere for me to be until later…
“Well… after breakfast I’ll probably go grocery shopping for the week. Jazmine called me and asked to help with a hip hop class at the studio but that isn’t until later… but I have a feeling that we’re all going to be in late.”
I stood up and took everyone’s plate and headed to the sink. “Seems like everyone’s schedules are full for the day. Do y’all just want to do take out tonight? Or maybe meet at Nando’s to eat?” Violet peeked around from the corner.
“Sounds good to me.” Ashlee rang in, with that it had been a unanimous vote. Nando’s was official for dinner tonight. Once everything was picked up and clean from breakfast everyone went her separate way.
I showered, dressed, and headed out to the market down the street to pick up some groceries for both apartments. It took me no more than an hour to get all of that done, each girl made a list and everything on that list was picked up.
When I got back to the apartment I still had time to waste before I needed to head to the studio. I put up all the groceries away in Phoenix, Ashlee, and my apartment before heading back to my room and changing for the studio.
I tossed my hair in a high ballet bun, slipped into black leggings, a pink crop, and slipped on a pair of grey leopard printed vans. By now another 30 minutes passed by. When I finished getting ready I grabbed my gym bag from the chair sitting in the corner of me room.
Headed into the kitchen to grab all of Karmyn and Violet’s groceries and headed to the next floor up locking up the apartment beforehand.
With my duffle hanging across my chest and shoulder, I had my phone in one-hand and grocery bags in another. I stepped into the elevator and pressed 4 before becoming engulfed into my phone.
The ding of the elevator went off letting me know I was at my destination. Still focused on my phone I stepped off, took a few steps, and before I knew it the cracking of eggs could be heard and vegetables were scattered across the carpet.
“Shit.” I muttered before coming face to face with the object that I had hit… or in my case the person.
