Cry for Me, Please?

WARNING: Pretty much everything is spoiled in this review, but it’s just a one-shot, so you might as well go read it – like, now. And don’t worry – it’s a good one.
It’s hard to review one-shots because there’s only a limited amount of writing that you get to read for that particular story. I mean, that’s literally why they’re called “one-shots”. You only get “one shot” at writing them and convey a small story over. So for those reasons, that’s why I’m choosing to only review off of pure story only.
Cry for Me, Plase? is a beautifully executed one-shot about loss and how it’s okay to cry. Now, if you’ve personally read the one-shot (or more obviously you’re the writer) and you disagree and think it’s something else – that’s okay. The thing about stories and pieces of literature is that everything we read has multiple themes. Certain themes just speak more to others than they might for you. So if you got something else out of this, that’s okay. This is just what I, in my opinion, feel like this one-shot is trying to convey.
Okay, enough of the lesson on literature that may or may not be accurate (cut me some slack, I’m still just 14…) and back to the one-shot. Cry for Me, Please? tells the story of a man whose best friend is fighting cancer. One feels as though they have personally lost that best friend by the end. And if you’re like me and crying something you don’t necessarily do or, in my case, you don’t like crying because maybe it makes you feel undermined, then by the end you’ve read that 4th to last sentence and you’re just like… wow.
I know it’s getting kind of personal, but that’s what I’m kind of trying to say here. The one-shot really speaks to the emotions. And maybe the grammar could’ve been a teensy bit better but who cares! When the story speaks to you it doesn’t matter if the comma is out of place or you forget the apostrophe.
And I honestly think I wrote too much for just a one-shot so I’ll leave you with this advice: go read it.
Oh, and excuse the weird way I decided to word/format things. I do that sometimes…
If you find your review to be disappointing, I cannot honestly tell you that I’m sorry. Do not let what I say in any way discourage you from writing or anything for that matter. I am just one person with strongly opinionated views on everything. If I made it clear that I strongly dislike your story, do not think that other people won’t enjoy it. There are many other readers with different views than me who will find interest in your story where I may not have. I hope you do take something out of this and improve on and continue your writing, but if you don’t, that’s fine too.
