Chapter 35
Riley's POV:
"Please can we ditch first period! C'mon I'm dying for a bagel." I wined in Harry's car. To be honest, I just don't feel like taking a new girl around school today. The old me who be there extra early to welcome her... but they can find someone else to do it.
"Fine, but if you get in trouble don't come crying to me!" He smiles, stopping in front of Zayn's house. He offered to give him and Perrie a ride to school too since she slept at his last night and his car is in the shop.
"Hi Ri!" Perrie squealed, hopping in the back seat with Zayn.
"We're skipping first to get breakfast, is that cool?" I asked, and her and Zayn both started laughing.
"Obviously it's cool, Riley. We always skip." Zayn chuckles, and I blush a little bit.
"You've changed so much, but you're still the same old Riley." Harry teased, pushing my elbow. I rolled my eyes and swatted his arm, but let on a small smile. That makes me happy to hear... I'm like a transformed version of myself.
"So did you hear about Seth?" Perrie asked, and I shook my head no while taking a sip of my coffee. We decided to go to the little bakery in town for some real food, none of that Starbucks kind of shit.
"What happened?" I asked. I try not to think about Seth too much, especially since he probably wants me dead since my parents tried to put him in jail.
"He got kicked out my old school." She tells me and I shake my head in disbelief.
"Get out!" I shout, and quickly lower my voice. "What for?" I ask more quietly. I'm thankful that Harry and Zayn are ordering the food, or else they'd probably tell Perrie to shut up about it.
"He got into a fight with the principals son... a very stupid move if you asked me." She chuckles, and I do too.
"So where do you think he's going to end up?" I asked, and suddenly a thought hits me like a ton of bricks. "Do you think... would they send him to Red?" I gasp, suddenly feeling like the room temperature raised one hundred degrees. I cannot begin to imagine what life would be like with him in my school... A war zone, that's what it would be.
"Nah, I doubt it. They wouldn't send him to the school that Harry and them were sent to, you know?" She smiled, reaching across the table to take my hand. "I promise Riley, you've got nothing to worry about anymore!" She insists, and I nod, shaking the idea away.
"We've got bagels!" Zayn cheers, tossing them onto the table and sliding in beside Perrie. Harry did the same, leaving a sweet peck on my cheek. I love how affectionate he is in public lately... He will do anything to make me smile.
"You're cute." I giggle, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"You are too." He whispers, and I can't help but laugh at Zayn's funny expression.
"Something funny?" I ask, taking a bite into my bagel. Perrie nudges him to stop him from laughing, and I start to feel myself blush again.
"I just never thought I'd see you with someone like Harry... You and Nick were nice but you just look... so..."
"Scary? Uncomfortable? Bad? Nervous?" I threw words at him and I could feel Harry's grin grow wider on his face.
"So happy." He finishes, and I cover my face in my hands. Harry makes me feel so happy... I just hope I do the same for him.
"We're both so happy." He says, reading my thoughts. I've never been like this about a guy. Sure, when I was with Nick we liked to kiss and stuff in public but that felt like a job, like I needed to prove to everyone I was his and he was mine. When I'm with Harry, everything feels so safe and so dangerous at the same time... It's like he's the clouds on my summer day, we just balance each other out.
We continued eating our breakfast until it was getting a lot later and we all knew it was time to head to school. The drive back is filled with mindless chatter and joking about then and now, and I smiled almost the whole way there. I like to smile when I'm with Harry, because you never know when it's going to be your turn to frown.
"I don't wanna take around a new kid!" I pout as the four of us walk in the front entrance of the school.
"I'm sure he gave the kid to someone else, what's he gonna do, wait around for you?" Zayn chuckled, and as we passed the main office I saw the principal standing at the door, tapping his foot.
"For fucks sake, let me talk to him." Harry groans, storming towards the office but I quickly pull him back.
"Harry. Harry look at me." I pull his arm and he slowly looks at me. "Go to class, It's not a big deal. I'll see you after school today, alright?" I say calmly.
"What about lunch?" He asks and I shake my head.
"I have to go for extra help in Anatomy at lunch because I missed that lab assignment." I remind him and he nods.
"Love you." He sighs, walking away with Zayn and Perrie. I give him a weak smile before heading over towards the angry awaiting principal.
"Nice of you to show up." He says sternly and I roll my eyes. "Your new student is running a bit late, so you can wait in here until they arrive." The principal tells me and heads into his office.
I sit down in a chair, fiddling with buckles on my boots. Somedays I wonder if my outfits are too different, but then I remember how much I love them so I don't really give a shit.
"Mr. Chambers, you're awfully late and on your first day." The principal sighs. I guess my new student is here? And what the hell, I thought it was a girl? I stay in my seat and wait for the principal to come get me, because I don't really feel like standing up.
"Sorry sir, I got a little lost coming here." The Chambers kid replies... Why the hell have I heard that voice before?
"I'll let it slide for today but not again. You realize how fortunate you are to attend this school under all your circumstances--"
"I'm very grateful for this opportunity. I won't let you down." He answers. I swear I know who that is...
"I've got a top student to take you around to your classes and everything... right this way young man." he leads the student over to me. "Here she is, Miss. Riley Cutler!" He introduces me. I stand up to face him and shake his hand, but my heart nearly falls into my ass when I see who is standing before me.
"I can't wait for her to show me around." He smirks, extending a hand. I blink a few times before reluctantly stick out the tips of my fingers to touch his.
Seth is the new student? My world has just been turned upside down completely... I don't understand how this could have happened and I don't know how the fuck I'm supposed to spend my day with him.
"Get going you two!" The principal shoes us out of the room. I robotically exit the room with him following behind and feel myself panic. I don't know what to say or do, it's like I can't even breathe.
"Where's our first class?" He asks, looking down at his schedule.
