Just a Fool

Chapter 13: This I Swear

The next morning Anne was surprised to see Harry already awake and fixing breakfast for her. Checking her watch she noticed it wasn't even close to the time when he usually woke up. He wasn't even supposed to be at school for another hour. “Who are you and what have you done with my son?” She questioned picking up the cup of coffee sitting on the table.

“Very funny,” Harry chuckled. “I just wanted to do something nice for you.”

“Besides going behind my back and paying our bills with money I didn't even know you had?”

“Yeah, besides that,” He sighed, scratching the back of his neck.

“Well thank you honey,” She smiled. As she sat down at the table she watched him grab his backpack and keys. “You're already going to school? I've never seen you leave the house this early.”

“Yeah well...I've got learning to do?” Even as the words left his mouth he knew his mom wouldn't believe them.

Anne's eyes narrowed at her son. “Ok you, sit down and tell me what's really going on.”

Sighing Harry dropped his bag beside his chair. Sitting down he ran a hand through his messy curls. “I want to see this girl...”

“How did I know?” She chuckled. “So what's her name?”

“Abigail. She's in my grade, we have a class together.” He thought if he kept his answers short and simple his mom would let the subject go.

“Harry, don't be embarrassed. I just want to know what's going on in your life.” She explained reaching over to take her son's hand. “So...is she pretty?”

Finally Harry grinned. “She's beautiful.”

“Well I hope I get to meet her sometime.” Anne sighed. “All right I can tell you're anxious to leave so go on. Get out of here.”

Grabbing his keys and bag he went over to kiss her cheek. “Thanks mom, love you.”

“I love you too, be careful!”

In her bedroom Abigail was frantically trying to find something to wear. Clothes littered her bedroom floor, her bed, but nothing seemed right. Everything she seemed to own just felt wrong or she just wasn’t happy with it. Picking up two dresses she held them up to the mirror. “No,” She grumbled tossing them aside.

Going back to her closet she found a cream colored sweater dress that she decided would be fine for the day. After pulling it on along with a pair of black tights and black boots she headed downstairs to eat something for breakfast. Her mom hadn't really had time for grocery shopping so finding something to eat seemed to be a chore in itself. Settling on an apple she walked around the island to see a note hanging on the fridge. 'Working late tonight, I left money for pizza.' Sighing Abigail tossed the note into the trash. Normally she would be disappointed but now she was happy. Her dad being gone meant she would be able to spend time with Harry. Quickly finishing up her apple she tossed the core away before heading out.

During the drive she couldn't wait to see Harry. It felt like weeks since she last seen him when in reality it had only been a night. After he dropped her off she couldn't help but smile when she thought about the kiss, his arms around her, and just how safe she felt with him. Harry's appearance on the outside definitely didn't reflect who he really was. Every time she was around him he made her feel comfortable, even when she talked about some of the hardest times of her life. She could see herself happy with him, something she never thought she would have with anyone.

When she pulled into her regular spot in the parking lot she was surprised to see Harry already there. The sight of him in his leather jacket that she had come to love, his tight black jeans, and his curls perfectly messed up made her stomach flip. “Hey you,” He smirked as she opened her door.

“Hi,” She smiled. “What are you doing here so early? I thought you're one of the last ones here in the morning.”

“And you would be right about that.” He chuckled grabbing her hand. “I just wanted to see you before classes started.”

As they started to walk across the lot Harry was surprised to see Louis' truck come into view. “Hang on a sec.” He murmured.

Abigail tensed up when she saw Harry's friends, she was nervous on how they would react to her. She already had one bad situation when it came to her boyfriend's friends, she didn't need another one. Stepping behind Harry she followed him over to the truck. “Harry? What the hell?” Zayn laughed stepping out of the passenger side.

“Why is everyone so surprised to see me here this early?” Harry grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Because its a mission to even wake you up in the morning.” Niall snickered. “Hey Abby.”

Louis and Zayn glanced at each other then to Harry and Abigail's interlocked hands. “So are you two a thing now?”

“Yeah, we are.” Harry felt rather good saying it out loud.

Abigail blushed when she heard Harry say they were together. She blushed ever more when

Niall yelled. “Aww! Little Harry has a girlfriend!”

“Shut the hell up Niall.” Harry snapped pushing his friend in the chest.

“What? This is your first serious relationship, I'm going to give you hell for it.”

“You're just pissed because you're still single.” Harry mumbled. “Come on Angel, its cold.” He told her before leading her to the gym.

As they walked across the pavement he whispered. “I'm sorry about them.”

“Its ok, they're your friends, they're supposed to give you a hard time.” She smiled.

“Yeah, but I don't want them to embarrass you like that. I can deal with it, you don't have to though.”

“Harry, you can't protect me from everything.” She murmured.

“Doesn't mean I can't try.”

His words melted her heart. She had never had someone care so much about her safety and her feelings. Stopping him she wrapped her arms around his neck. Harry was surprised at first but snapping out of it his arms wound around her waist. As she pulled away she gave him a soft kiss. “What was that for?” He questioned when they pulled apart.

“For everything.” She grinned, resting her hands on his chest.

She watched as the sides of his mouth perk up. Out of all the things she liked about him his smile was at the very top. He looked so innocent when he smiled, that smile seemed to make his tattoos and piercings go away. “Abby?” She heard someone say.

Now it was Harry's turn to feel nervous. He saw her friend Charlotte making her way towards them. “Hey Char,” Abigail coughed, not stepping away from Harry.

“Whatcha up to?” Charlotte chuckled. “Hi Harry.”

To get rid of the awkwardness Harry decided to make a joke. “Its nice to see you standing up right.”

“Oh God, don't tell me you remember that.” Charlotte cringed, her night of drinking and throwing up in Kristin's car came back to her.

“Unfortunately, but hey, it looked like you had a good time.” He chuckled.

“Oh yeah it was awesome, until the ride home...and the rest of the night. I made the bathroom floor my personal bed for the night.”

“We've all been there,” Harry shrugged.

“Right, well not me, ever again. So its safe to assume you two are finally together?”

“Finally together?” He asked looking down to see his girlfriend blushing.

“Yeah, she's talked about you enough.” Charlotte scoffed walking past them into the gymnasium.

“Is that right?” He smirked.

“Maybe...just a little bit.” Abigail muttered burying her face in his chest.

Throwing his head back Harry laughed, it felt good to know it wasn't just his friends trying their best to embarrass him. Kissing her hair he whispered. “Maybe I talked about you too...just a little bit.”

The rest of the day was normal, except for the stares they received when Harry walked her to class with his arm around her shoulders. Abigail could see how uneasy he felt with all the unwanted attention. Intertwining their fingers she leaned up to tell him. “Don't worry, by the end of the week they won't even care about us.”

“I hope you're right, Angel.” He whispered, dropping his head so his hair covered his eyes.

At lunch Abigail sat at her usual table when Kristin ran into the cafeteria. “Oh my gosh, the one day I'm late and I have to hear from Riley in Algebra that you and Harry finally made it official!”

Abigail's eyes widened. “Oh right, sorry.”

“Forget sorry, when did it happen? Recently I assume. Have you kissed yet? Is it weird kissing him with that lip ring? When are we double dating?!”

“Kris, breathe,” Abigail laughed. “Uh, last night. Yes and no and I guess whenever you want to. My dad is working late tonight though so maybe we can go to dinner or something?”

“That's perfect! We can go bowling and then drag them to that Japanese place down town! Oh my God, I'm so happy for you!”

“Thank you Kristin. I'm really happy too.”

For the first time since her ex Abigail was happy. Everything seemed to be going her way and she couldn't even see any chance of negativity.
