Forever and Always

“Good morning little lady.” I said as Kayla walked into the kitchen rubbing her eyes. Colton is already awake and the other two are asleep. I’m in the middle of making them breakfast.

“Good morning.” Kayla said sitting down in her chair. I walked to the CD play that we have in the kitchen and turned it on. The Annie cd from the new movie was on so I had it on low.

“Do you want to call daddy now, or after you are dressed?” I asked opening the fridge.

“Now.” She said perking up. I set the bacon on the counter and took my phone out of my pockets and called Harry. When it began to ring I handed it to Kayla then went back to making breakfast.

“Hi daddy!” She said as I got a pan out. They talked for about ten minutes and by then breakfast was ready.

“He wants to talk to you.” She said as I placed her plate in front of her. I took it from her then walked over to the bowl that has cheerios in it for Colton.

“Can you watch your brother while I get your sister and brother?” I asked her and she nodded her head.

“Hello?” I asked holding my phone up to my ear as I walked up the stairs.

“Hey babe. She seems excited about today.” He said.

“She is. I’m kind of sad, but it is a part of growing up.” I said.

“I wish I was there. I promise to you now that I will never miss any of the other kids’ first days of school.” Harry said and I smiled at the comment.

“That’s a nice thought, but we both know that can’t be promised. You have a job that takes you all around the world almost 365 days a year and when you are home you are still in touring mode. I love you with all my heart, but don’t promise things that you can’t.” I said walking into the twins’ nursery. When I walked in Haleigh was standing up and peeking up over the edge babbling.

“But I do promise. It may not seem like it sometimes, but you and the kids come before any of the band. I love you to the end of the boon and back, to infinity and beyond, and more than I can express to you in words.” Harry said making me smile as I picked up our daughter who began to babble louder.

“I know you do.” I said carrying her over to the changing table to change her diaper.

“Good. So I heard a babble. Which one is it?” He asked.

“It’s the princess.” I said as I changed her diaper.

“Can you send me a picture of all four of them together before Kayla goes to school? Please???” Harry begged as I threw away Haleigh’s old diaper.

“You got it. I have to go and wake up Ethan and make sure they are all dressed. I love you and I’ll talk to you later.” I said.

“Okay. Love ya weirdo.” He said before he hung up. I put my phone in the back pocket of my jeans and then picked Haleigh up off the changing table and walked into Ethan’s room where he was still asleep. I walked over to his bed and gently shook him awake.

“Time to eat buddy.” I said once he rolled over to face me. He rubbed his eyes and then sat up.

“Sleepy.” He said yawning and standing up. I held my hand out to him and he took it. When I got to the kitchen I placed Haleigh in her high chair and helped Ethan into his booster seat.

“I’m done. Can I go get dressed now?” Kayla asked me.

“Yup. Your clothes are on your rocking chair. When you are done can you bring down the clothes that are on the chair in the twins’ room and then get the clothes off Ethan’s dresser and bring them to me please?” I asked her and she nodded her head. I walked over to Colton and saw that he was almost done with his small bowl of cheerios. I walked to the counter where I had Haleigh’s bowl and Ethan’s plate. When I placed it in front of the two of them they instantly began to eat. My phone began to ring and I saw it was Gemma.

“Hey Gemmy Bean.” I said once I answered the phone.

“How are you holding up momma bear?” She asked me.

“I’m okay. I just wish her mom and Harry were here to see her on her first day.” I said as I got onto the counter to sit.

“Her mom is looking down on all three of you smiling. Don’t’ worry babe. Cam and I were wondering if we could come round today.” She said.

“I don’t see why not. I need your opinion though.” I said.

“Shoot.”

“I’m not sure if I should drive her to school or to let her ride the bus and then meet her at school. They have it so this morning the parents of the kindergartners can come in for half a day. I have to drop the others off at mom’s house.”

“I say you just let her take the bus. I mean she’ll have to everyday until she graduates high school.” Gemma replied.

“I guess so. I have to take care of a fussy 7 month old.” I said looking over at Colton who was trying to squirm out of his seat.

“Okay. What time should we come round?” she asked me.

“I should me home about half past 12.” I replied. We said our goodbyes and then hung up.

“Look at mommy.” I said as all the kids sat on the couch. Kayla has Haleigh on her lap and Ethan is “holding” Colton on his lap for the picture. Ethan and Kayla both gave me really cheesy smiles.

“Okay. I need one of Kayla on her own.” I said taking the twins off their laps and setting them on the ground to crawl around. Kayla stood up with her back to the window and I took the picture. I sent both photos to Harry and then posted the picture of all four of them to Instagram.

I locked my phone and grabbed the diaper bag and walked out with the twins on either side of my hips. Kayla and Ethan followed behind me. Once they were all in the car I closed the front door and ran back to the car. I’m taking Kayla to her bus stop and then once she is on the bus I’m going to meet Robin halfway and he is going to take the kids home with him.

“What if I make no friends?” Kayla asked me as we sat at the bus stop.

“You will bug. Just be your normal smiling and silly self. Everyone will love you. Remember that daddy loves you even though he isn’t here okay?” I asked her. She nodded her head just as the bus pulled to a stop. I got out the car and opened Kayla’s door. I gave her a quick hug and then she ran to the bus. Once it pulled away I got in my car and began to meet Robin.

“How did it go? Did you cry?” He asked me with a little smirk.

“You wish. It actually went really well in my opinion.” I said as I unbuckled Haleigh and he unbuckled Colton.

“That’s good. I remember Mike’s first day of school. His mom bawled like a baby.” He said and I laughed.

“I bet you did too Robby.” I replied with my own smirk.

“Just a little tear.” He said smiling at me as we buckled the twins into their car seats in his car. I bucked Ethan into his seat and then closed the door. Robin walked over to me and pulled me into a hug.

“I probably don’t tell you this enough, but you are as much my daughter as Gemma is. I think we need a day for just the two of us. Anne can watch the kids and we can shop or something.” He said as we pulled apart.

“I don’t see you as the shopping kind of guy, but we’ll figure something out.” I said as he opened his door.

“You got it kiddo. Have a good day and I’ll see you soon.” He said as I walked over to my door. When I started the car my phone begun to ring so I turned the radio down. It was Louis calling me.

“Hey.” He said sadly. I began to worry something was seriously wrong.

“What’s going on Louis?” I asked him as I backed out of the parking lot to head to Kayla’s school.

“Pressly and I broke up.” He said and I heard him begin to cry.

“I’m so sorry! I haven’t talked to her or any of the girls in forever. Did she tell you why?” I asked him.

“Nope. It hurts so bad.” He said through his tears.

“Is Harry with you?” I asked him as I stopped at a red light.

“No. He and the other boys are at an interview right now.” He said.

“Okay well I’m going to call Pressly right now and then I’m going to call you back. Don’t do anything stupid Lou, okay?” I asked him.

“Okay, and Chai.” He replied before I hung up.

“Yeah Lou?” I asked him.

“I love you. You’re the best friend I have besides Harry.”

“I love you too, bub. Nothing stupid.” I said before hanging up.
