Chapter Three - Awkward Meeting
"You bake really awesome cookies." I complimented Daniel, while chewing one.
"Thanks. Its probably cause my mom taught me how, and she's a chef." he said.
"Wow....your mom's a chef? that's amazing! I said happily. He nodded.
"Thanks." he said. I continued eating until I was done. I washed the plates after.
"Your mom said I should ride you to school with me. By the way, were in the same school." he said, biting his lip.
"Really? Cool then, maybe we could go home together..."I said.
'But your in carpool service right?" he asked. That made sense. I pouted.
"Oh....yeah." I replied sadly. He smiled.
"You really wanna go home with me?" he asked curiously. I stared at him sternly.
"Yep." I answered. He did this "thinking act", then smiled.
"I can ask your carpool driver to let me fetch you while I'm still here." he said.
"Yay!! thank you very much!! Thank You! I yelled, hugging him. Then I realized that was just awkward.
"Um, I'm so sorry about that! I was just so happy." I said. he smiled.
"I understand, and your good at giving hugs though." he complimented. I smiled.
"Your really like mom, such a great company." I told him.
"I don't think so, cause I'm the only child in my family...so I'm used to being alone and I don't talk that much around." he said.
"So were the same." I said.
"I'm so glad I could relate to you." he said.
"Same here." I said.
We drove together in my carpool, since I asked our driver just this once to let Daniel ride. He gladly obliged anyway. Shortly, we arrived in school. Unexpectedly, when we were just about to go inside, we met Harry and Vanessa along the way.
I felt suprised and.......hurt? Vanessa had her arms around Harry's, that's why. But Harry didn't do the same though.
"Oh hey, Winter! who's this? your boyfriend?" she asked in a sweet way. (pretender!) I thought.
"Huh? Oh no, no. He's um, a friend." I corrected her. she didn't seem persuaded.
"Ooooh...more like a boyfriend." she said. I flinched as she gripped Harry's arm tighter.
"No, I'm sorry but were really just friends." Finally, Daniel stood up for me. Vanessa nodded.
"Your pretty cute." she complimented him. (Keep that for yourself! How easy it is for her to directly make some mushy comments to people she just met for a minute!) I thought angrily.
"Thanks." Daniel laughed. I stared at Harry, who was smiling somehow.
"Hey, Winter." he said.
"Hey, Harry." I slowly said. There was a short pause then I decided to speak.
"Harry, why are you with her? may I ask? I don't mean it as a question to offend, but I just wanna ask." I said. He smiled.
He was about to speak when Vanessa harshly interrupted. "At my house since last night for we were rehearsing this song for music class. And we really had agreat time knowing each other more." she explained. My heart felt stabbed.
Harry seems a bit angry. I don't know why though. " Oh, okay.." I sadly said.
"I guess we gotta go then, see ya Winter." she girly said as she and Harry passed by. She was still gripping his arm like she owns it. Pathetic. I felt envious...
"That girl was a flame...if you know what I mean." Daniel said. I nodded.
"She's more than that. she's this sort of popular queen bee in our room". I said.
"Oh....right. "He said. I smiled at him.
"Should we go now?" I asked. He nodded and smiled.
When we arrived the room, I could see our teacher coming for the class. When she did, we greeted her and sat back on our respective seats. I sighed.
Snacks time came and all of us rehearsed for our songs. Me and Pearl were practicing so hard that our throats got dry. We drank lots of water and got well.
"Cause I, see, sparks fly, whenever you....smile..." I sang the chorus part.
I watched at Harry and Vanessa. They were laughing together...and, Harry was touching her hand for she got the paper with the lyrics. Harry didn't even seem to noticed this. And they sang "Love Story" together.......
"Hey, you okay?" Pearl asked, patting my shoulder. I smiled at her.
"Yup. Just a bit of knife slicing my heart." I said. she laughed.
When music time came, we were all a bit nervous. Me and Pearl were just hoping we'll do fine and that we'll do our best in it. The other pairs were called and were already done, the ones remaining now were Harry and Vanessa, Me and Pearl.
They were first so me and Pearl took a deep breath once again. "I'm anxious to see their presentation." I whispered to myself softly.
They started singing and oh mud...Vanessa's voice absolutely sucks. Harry's voice was just the one that lessens her embarrassment. His voice was perfect. But it did hurt when he sang Romeo's part on the song to her.
They were done and I heard a lot of applauses from our classmates. Now, it was mine and Pearl's turn. We shakingly climbed on the platform then began singing.
As I started the chorus part, I glanced at Harry's eyes. I could see him surprised....maybe he could feel it too. When me and Pearl finished, lots of applause were given, especially from our friends and, I saw Harry clapped and smiled at me.
I smiled at him back.
Then I moved my gaze towards the "popular mean girls". They were shooting death glares at me like they wanted me to die right now. ( Pff...losers arent you?) I thought.
When the scores were announced, I was so happy that me and Pearl got perfect. Their were six pairs, including us, who got perfect. I was super happy. At least Vanessa got five mistakes score because of Harry's voice, she should be thankful.
"Hey, you were great." Harry complimented.
"Thank You, so are you." I said. He high fived me so I did back.
I heard whispers again, jelaous whispers from the Queen Bee's group. I shrugged them all off. Hit their nerves then? That's totally cool.
When dismissal time came, I went to Daniel's room since I promised to do so. I saw him waved at me happily and I ran up to him happily.
"I heard the wonderful news! Beautiful voice huh?" he teased. I laughed.
"Don't tease, I just did my best." I said. he nodded and so, we went out together.
We had asked permission from the driver earlier, so we directly went home.
"By the way, can I ask for your cellphone number?" Daniel asked me. I felt shy.
"Um.....I don't have one." I shyly replied.
"Oh, don't be shy. Its normal even if you don't have a phone." he said.
"Sorry, mom has been really finding out some ways to earn more money, and buy me one." I said. he looked concerned.
"Loving mom.." he complimented. I nodded and smiled.
When we arrived home, I changed to new clothes and ate dinner with Daniel. Mom had gone out already for work and prepared dinner. Fresh veggies, again.
We ate and talked about things with sense. When we finished, I washed the plates then studied my lesson for our test tomorrow.
"To be honest, I'm good at Math, so if you ever are having a hard time---- I stopped him.
"Teach me, please!" I begged with a pout. He smirked.
"There you go again, with that pretty cute face." He said. I blushed.
He taught me about the parts I'm confused at and I immediately learned them. He's a good teacher, I guess.
"Thank You so much! That was a big help!" I said.
"Lots of people have a hard time with that subject, that's why I always offer to help." he said. I nodded.
"Good Night then." he said.
"Good Night, again." I joked. He laughed and went outside after turning off the lights.
