Royal Pain

Prince Arrogant

The door was closed behind me once I stepped inside. I looked at the ground the whole time, afraid to meet the prince’s gaze. I could feel his eyes on me. I felt unprepared and uncomfortable, but I knew I would be reprimanded if I ignored the prince, so I slowly lifted my head and saw him standing directly in front of me.

He was closer than I had realized, only a few feet in front of me. If he were to reach out, he could touch me. Our eyes met and I noticed that they were a dull shade of green, but they seemed catch my attention. His ensemble was different than I had expected. He wore a white Rolling Stones t-shirt and black skintight jeans. His feet were snug in a pair of white converse. His hair was a dark brown, curling into a poufy quiff. He looked nothing like I had pictured. This boy was actually… hot.

“Hello, Ellie,” he said. I jumped at the sound of my name. All of a sudden, the dress I was wearing made me feel like I was smothering. How did he know my name?

I gulped and he raised an eyebrow. “Cat got your tongue?”

I shook my head, my heart beating out of my chest.

“Oh, I see. You’re just upset about being brought here.”

I narrowed my eyes. Really? Upset was too little of a word to explain how I was feeling. Suddenly, my confidence rose and I felt the urge to yell at the prince. “Of course I’m upset,” I finally spoke. “Your ‘lovely’ guard chloroformed and practically kidnapped me.” I put emphasis around the word lovely, hinting my sarcasm.

His expression softened and a small grin spread across his face. For a moment I thought he was going to apologize, but my accusations were wrong.

“Well, you were being defiant. And Alfred did right by his actions.”

My jaw dropped. Was he being serious? “You think it’s okay to kidnap a helpless girl on vacation?” My voice was rising with anger now.

He chuckled. “I can do whatever I want. I’m the prince.”

So he was that type of prince. I rolled my eyes and balled my fists. “Well Prince Arrogant, if you don’t mind, I don’t appreciate being taken against my will, so I’ll be leaving now.”

I went for the door handle and pulled, only to find that it was locked tight. I was trapped inside this room, which I assumed was his bedroom, with the prince.

“Sorry. You’re not leaving anytime soon. And my name is Harry, not Prince Arrogant.”

I turned to him, my face flushing with heat. I was so angry that I could almost feel steam flowing out of my ears. “Whatever. Can you just tell me why I’m here, Prince Harry?” I said his name in the most snobbish tone I could muster.

He smiled and walked to the couch on our left. “Please, call me Harry.” He tapped the seat beside him, hinting for me to join him. I was hesitant at first, but I finally stomped over. He looked pleased with his self.

“As I said before, you aren’t leaving any time soon.”

“But you can’t just keep me here against my will,” I retorted. The tone of my voice sounded whiny.

“I can and I will. I’m the prince remember.”

I wanted to slap that smirk right off his face. So far, my vacation was the worst thing I have ever experienced. I wondered how Shailene was doing.

I sighed. “But why am I here?”

Slowly, he leaned forward and pushed a strand of hair out of my face. His finger grazed the skin of my cheek and a line of goose bumps followed.

“Because I’m the prince, baby. I get what I want. And what I want is you.”

My eyes widened. He wanted me? There were thousands of other girls and London and he wanted me? A girl from the states. “B-but,” I started. “Why?”

His smile remained but he leaned back. “Do you want to hear the whole story or the short version?”

I contemplated his question. “The whole story.”

“Well, I’ll be turning twenty in a few days,” he started and I tried to relax. But I couldn’t. “And my mum says it’s time for me to get married.”

My heart stopped once I heard the word, married. I tried to hide my expression, but it was futile. Harry continued.

“So I’ve been looking for a bride for the past two months. Sadly, my search has been disastrous. I’ve gone on a couple dates that my mum set up, but those went horribly. The girls were trying too hard. We even held interviews. But, yet again, I didn’t like any of those women either.”

I listened to his story intently, giving him my full attention.

“But then today, I was looking out my window and I saw you.”

We locked eyes. I saw a spark of good ignite inside of him. Maybe he was nicer than I thought.

“You literally took my breath away. I instantly knew that you were the one I needed to marry. So I sent Alfred after you.”

There was a pause. I tried to think of something to say. “So… you want to marry me?”

He nodded. I stared at him with a blank expression. “And if I say no?”

Harry’s smile reappeared. “You can’t. And you won’t.”

I huffed, annoyed. “You can’t tell me what to do.”

“Listen, Ellie. There’s a royal ball tonight. You and I will be attending it of course. You are to act like we’ve been dating for a while and when the clock strikes midnight, I’ll ask you to marry me.”

I was so taken back by his plans. This was actually happening. He was actually going to make me marry him.

“I’ll say no.”

His expression hardened. “It would be best if you didn’t.”

My eyes squinted. “Why? What are you going to do if I do?”

His eyes swirled with darkness, causing me to freeze with fear. “If you say no, then I’ll make your life a living hell.”

I took his warning to heart. I believed every word he spoke. Harry didn’t look like the type to joke around when it came to things like this.

“Now. What are you going to say when I ask you to marry me?”

I gave him a menacing glare, hoping that he felt the daggers going through his body.

He leaned forward. “What was that? I can’t hear you my dear.” He asked, smirking evilly.

“Yes. I’ll say yes.”

He nodded. “I know.”

I wanted to scream in his face, but I knew that that wouldn’t get me anywhere. Harry rose from his seat and unlocked the door for me. I quickly walked toward it, but he grabbed my arm, stopping me from leaving.

“And don’t worry about your things. I’ve already sent for them. But as for your clothes, you’ll only be wearing dresses from here on out.”

Again, my jaw dropped. It’s not that I didn’t like dresses, it was the fact that I had to wear them 24/7. That’s what bothered me.

“There are some casual clothes that you’ll be wearing when we leave the palace and do something together.”

I didn’t say anything to him and my arm was released at last.

“Winnie will be in your room shortly to help you get ready for tonight. The ball starts at eight. I’ll be at your door around seven forty-five.”

I nodded, not bothering to catch his gaze.

“George. Please escort Ellie to her room.”

I hadn’t realized a guard was standing beside me. I turned to him and mustered a fake smile. He bowed. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss Flynn. Follow me please.”

And with that, he led me down the hallway. Surprisingly, I wasn’t worried about what was going to happen tonight, I was just glad to be away from Harry.
