What I Don't Remember

Amnesia

I looked at my mom who was on the verge of tears. I had only seen her this upset on one occasion, and I would prefer not to relive it.
“Mom, I’m fine. There’s nothing wrong with me.” I said, struggling to free myself from the tubes that were attached to several places on my body.
“Honey, you are not okay. I don’t think you realize how severe your injuries are.”
“What injuries? Did you not hear me? I said I’m fine.” My mom sighed, and placed her hand over mine.
“The doctors are running some tests. They should be back soon to tell us exactly what happened. I’m going down to the lobby to get some snacks, behave.”
She planted a kiss on my forehead before disappearing out the door. After she left I sunk deeper into the hospital bed and tried to comprehend what was going on. At first I assumed all of this was a dream, especially when I woke up under the care of those boys I met in the bus, but this part was far too real. I took comfort in the thought that this could all be a dream, but what if it wasn’t? I guess it couldn’t be too bad if I got to see that curly-haired boy again.
I was abruptly thrown out of my thoughts when the door flew open. Running frantically towards me were Lana and Taisie, two friends I was actually happy to see. They hugged me and kissed me all over my cheeks, which was strange because I didn’t recall us being that good of friends. We had a fun time at the school picnic and I talked to them at a few parties but I didn’t think they cared about me that much. I didn’t even know we were on friendship terms. I tried to be polite and act as excited as they were, but I had no clue what was going on.
“Paris, I am so happy you are okay.” Lana sighed.
“Yeah, I thought we lost you.” Taisie said, placing a pink card on the night stand. “This is for you.”
I smiled slightly.
“Aw, thanks. Do you want me to read it now?”
“There’s no rush. You can read it when you are feeling better.” Lana said, taking a seat in the chair next to the hospital bed.
I tried to smile, but they were acting really weird. Taisie knelt down next to the bed and held my hand.
“Paris, what happened?” She said, watery-eyed.
I thought for a long moment and tried to remember what happened before the bus incident.
“Well, the last I remember we were all at the school picnic.”
“What are you talking about? What school picnic?”
“Don’t you remember? We were helping one of the seniors with something and then we accidently dropped all the food.”
I chuckled at the memory, but Taisie seemed disturbed. I waited for her to respond but she sat there like a statue.
“Paris, that was nearly four years ago.” She said, after a minute of silence.
I stared at her intently waiting for the punch line, but there was none. I opened my mouth to speak when the door opened. My mom emerged from the doorway with a bag full of gummy snacks and candy bars. Suddenly, I had lost my appetite.
“Who’s hungry?” She asked cheerfully. Lana and Taisie jumped up and joined my mom near the doorway, but they didn’t take any food.
They whispered into her ear and kept looking back at me like I was some kind of alien. After several minutes of hushed chatter my mom dropped the bag of candy on the floor and rushed over to me. She placed her hand on my cheek and then kissed my nose again.
“Honey, you have to tell me everything you remember.”
“I was at the school picnic with Lana and Taisie, and I woke up in a bus. There were boys there who I talked to but I don’t remember much besides that.”
“Oh my god, she doesn’t even realize that she talked to One Direction.” I heard Taisie say to Lana. My mom hushed them and then returned her attention back to me.
“We’ll be in the lobby.” Lana said, dragging Taisie to the door.
“Don’t talk to any of the reporters.” My mom called back after them.
“Reporters?” My mouth fell open. “Why would there be reporters in the lobby?”
“I don’t know, Paris.” She couldn’t even look me in the eyes, which is how I knew she was lying.
There was a knock at the door which was followed by an older man in a white coat. My mom got up to shake his hand while I remained in bed still trying to process what was happening.
“We have the test results back, and although we were able to find a bit of information we don’t have enough to take the proper precautions.” The doctor said, scribbling notes on his clipboard.
“Well, go on.” My mom said, eager to hear what the doctor had to say.
“We have diagnosed your daughter with Amnesia. We are not sure how severe the memory loss is, but we will know in the next couple of days. We are also going to question Harry because he was the only other witness. He might know something that could help us better understand what happened to her.”
“Who’s Harry?” I asked, but neither of them even looked at me.
“Bring him in,” My mom said, looking intently at the doctor. “I want to speak with him.”

Notes

3rd part. There will be plenty of Harry in the next part. (:

I really hope you update soon. Because I was hoping that you were aactuallly done and this story was literally complete...

I'm sorry. Idk why my massages repeat themselves. Ughhh.

I know a girl who had jumped over people in a basketball game at my school and when she came back down, someone tripped her and she hit her head which caused her to lose her memory for the rest of the year. She didn't remember who her boyfriend was. She wasn't snobby. She even began to like sweet tea, unlike before :) then she eventually got her memory back.
