Memories

My Angel

Niall's POV:

I was grinning like crazy, about to go on stage. I just loved the fans! They were so supportive and so amazing! I gripped my microphone and jumped onto stage. Immediately, the screams of girls reached my ears, and I waved to the audience, causing more screams to erupt.

For the next few hours we answered Twitter questions and sang some of our songs. And just when the concert was about to end, I saw something that made my smile freeze. The blond hair. The pale skin. And I caught a glimpse of the familiar blue eyes. And I knew who it was. Evelyn Pearl Walsh.

My world came crashing down and for a second I could barely hear anything. And then I was guided backstage and was sat down, Harry nervously saying, "Are you alright?" But I knew that I wasn't. Because I had given up looking for Lyn. I had given up, and stopped. I wasn't alright because I had given up on my best friend and thought she was dead.

But maybe it wasn't Lyn. Maybe it was just someone else. But then when her name echoed in my head, I knew that it was her.

I stood up, numbness all over my body. My hands trembled as Liam, being the concerned Daddy Direction he was, told me to sit back down but I ignored him. I pushed past the hands that begged me to stop and I rushed to the parking lot, hoping to find Evelyn. But she wasn't there.

I stumbled past the parking lot and onto the side of the street. I wondered where Lyn would've gone and then I instantly knew. The woods.

She was always fascinated by the hanging green and the dark brown roughness of the bark. Faintly, I heard people calling my name but I just tripped over the tree roots, determined to find Evelyn.

For an hour or two the branches cut into my skin, and I turned but found no one. All the trees looked the same, and I had not stopped to mark the trees. And I wish I did, because I was lost. I started calling her name, but stopped after awhile when my voice became hoarse and scratchy. And then I saw it. The tangle of blond hair flying with the wind.

I raced over all the roots threatening to trip me, pushing past all the branches that urged me to stop, and ignored my body which begged me to take a break. I gasped for air, knowing that Evelyn always was a faster runner than me. But she didn't suspect that someone was chasing her so I caught up with her easily.

"Evelyn," I whispered, breathing in the sweet air. I grabbed her arm, causing her to scream and run. I hated hearing her scream in fear, and to make it worse, she was scared of me.

I fell to the ground and groaned in pain, my knee starting to bleed. Evelyn hesitated and turned around. She paused, as if wondering what to do, and then started making her way slowly to me, as if going to a wounded, rabid animal instead of her best friend.

"Are you alright?" she said softly, and knelt down, carressing my cheek. She helped me up, and at that point I knew she didn't remember me.

"You don't remember me?" I mumbled sadly to her, tears welling up in my eyes. My knee stung, but it didn't hurt as much as my heart. She shook her head, and I felt like crying. How could she forget her best friend? "You don't remember me, my angel?"

Evelyn blinked and looked me in the eyes. She wrapped her arms around me, and I loved the way she hugged. I missed it so much. "You're my lucky leprechaun?" she murmured. I recalled the moment when we made up names for each other. Her nickname was Lyn and mine was Ni, but we came up with special names that we would call each other when the other person was feeling low. I called Lyn 'my angel' and she called me 'my lucky leprechaun'.

"I missed you," she sobbed into my neck as we held each other, using the other person for support. "I thought about you everyday, but then my survival pushed you to the back of my mind."

"What happened to you?" I asked, being in the dark about what happened. "You just disappeared from the party."

"I-I can't tell you," she stammered, and I was hurt because she could always tell me anything. But I guess it isn't like the good old days anymore. "All I can say is that I was running from someone."

I nodded, not needing her to tell me more. Because everything was alright as long as my angel was safe in my arms.
