Chapter Six

Knock, knock, knock.

Brooke and I were waiting in the lounge-room for James when we heard the door knocking. “Do I look alright?” I asked one last time while trying to straighten out my dress.

“You look beautiful.” Brooke replied and I smiled. I was wearing a knee-length deep blue dress with a low V neck-line. I had white heels on to match my white clutch I was going to be carrying (http://www3.images.coolspotters.com/photos/46997/leighton-meester-and-cobalt-blue-versace-dress-gallery.jpg).

I walked to the door, before I unlocked it and pulled it open slowly. “Oh, hey.” I smiled. I had been expecting James yet I had Harry standing in front of me. “What are you doing here?” I asked, surprised.

“I’m here to pick up Brooke; we’re going to see a movie.” I turned my head around to face Brooke who was still sitting on the couch. Her facial expressions explained that she had forgotten about this ‘date’ and was nowhere near ready.

“She’s still getting ready, she might be a while.” I told him while trying to block his view off to the rest of the apartment as Brooke ran off to her room to change. “Would you like to come in?” I asked once she had successfully managed to leave the room without Harry seeing her.

“Sure, as long as I’m not keeping you.” He gestured up and down my body, pointing out that what I was wearing was not really the usual attire to wear around the house.

“Yeah, I’m going out with James tonight.” I smiled as we walked into the entry/lounge-room.

“Oh, that’s right. I remember him mentioning it… You look nice by the way.” He complimented me.

“Thanks.” I smiled.

“I’m ready.” Brooke said as she came out of her room. “Oh, hey Harry, I didn’t realize you were here.” She lied. She was wearing a black dress with gold patterning; black shoes and had her hair down (http://photos.posh24.com/p/1939882/z/amanda_seyfried/amanda_seyfried_black_dress_go.jpg).

“Let’s get going then.” Harry said as he began to walk out. “Bye Grace.” I nodded back, a silent good-bye. Once Harry was out of ear-shot I grabbed Brooke’s arm and whispered heavily into her ear.

“How did you get ready so quickly?”

“A girl has her ways.” She winked before walking off to link arms with Harry who was waiting outside.

“You’ll have to tell me later!” I called out as I stood in our front door, watching her and Harry head down our buildings hallway. With-in a few seconds I saw James come around the corner; nod his head at Harry before making his way to my apartment.

“Aren’t you eager?” He said as he approached me. He kissed me on the cheek before responding. “Waiting outside for me?”

“Oh, I was just saying bye to Brooke.” I clarified.

“So you’re not eager?” He replied, putting his right hand up to his heart like he was hurt.

“No, I didn’t mean that, it’s just-” I tried to reason with him.

“Grace.” He interrupted my ramble before starting to laugh. “I was joking around with you.” He smiled a big, proper smile. “And you look so beautiful.” He told me.

“Oh shush you.” I said, pretending to swat his arm. “Let’s get going then.” I walked inside, grabbed my bags and keys before leaving the apartment and locking the door behind me. “So, where are we going?” I asked as I turned around the face James.

All he replied with was “you’ll see.”

-

“Where are we?” I asked James as we pulled into a parking lot filled with fancy cars of all makes and models. The building beside the car-park was all glass on one side with a long line of people, all dressed up, waiting outside.

“We’re at Luxe.” ‘Luxe’ was this fancy French restaurant that celebrities were always being seen at. I had never been as I had never had the desire to go before.

“How are we going to get in?” I asked. The line seemed to be filled with at least twenty to thirty people waiting outside.

“I’m friends with the owner; we already have a table reserved.” He stated proudly. “C’mon, let’s go in.” He grabbed my hand and we walked to the front door, passing the line of annoyed yet excited looking people before coming to a standstill in front of the huge security guard who was standing in front of the entrance.

“Can I help you?” he asked like he had been irritated by our presence.

“I’m friends with Julian; he organized a table for us for tonight.” James explained.

“He didn’t tell me about it.” The security guard told us. “Back of the line please.”

“Go ask him, he knows I’m coming tonight.” James pressured.

“James, let’s just go.” I urged as I pulled on his arm. All the people in the line were glaring at us, making me feel rather uncomfortable.

“No, wait a second.” James whispered to me before turning back to face the security officer.

“Can you just go and tell Julian that James is here.”

“Sorry, no can do.” The guard replied. “Mate, it’s either the back of the line or nothing. Your choice.”

“Stop trying to cut in!” An angry girl yelled to us. “Who do you think you are?” Another cried.

“James.” I whined, still trying to tug on his arm.

“I’m not done here, Grace.” James’s voice was stern, worrying me. “I’m not leaving here until I see Julian.” Before I knew it, multiple water bottles came flying out of nowhere, hitting James on the back. The bottle caps flew off half-way through impact, spraying me with water. I was soaking; dripping wet. James didn’t even seem to notice. Everyone in the crowd was pointing and laughing at me. Even the bored security guard seemed amused. Could this get any worse? I left before I could find out. I made my way quickly back to James’s car, humiliated at the scene that just happened. My shoes squelched as I walked, my dress sticking to my skin. “Grace!” James called as he hurried to catch up with me. “Where are you going?” He cried. I spun around quickly to face him once I was standing by the car door.

“We don’t need to go to some fancy restaurant, James.” I replied. I saw James look down at my water soaked clothes and hair.

“… Um, Grace, why are you wet?”

“Are you kidding me?” I asked. “Take me home, James.” I requested. “Please…” James nodded in defeat before making his way over to the driver’s seat of his car. The whole ride back to my apartment was silent and awkward. The only noise present was the sound of the actual car driving along the road. “Maybe we could go out some other time, but not to Luxe, please.” I told James as we said good-bye ten minutes later.

“Sure, I would like that.” He nodded sadly.

“James?” I said.

“Yeah?”

“Tonight would have been an amazing night.” I told him before planting a kiss on his cheek. “I just wish I wasn’t dripping wet.” I hugged James but as I started to pull away I felt his hand tighten around my waist.

“Don’t go. We can still salvage the night.” He begged.

“How?” I asked. I felt James pull me closer to him, his warm breath on my neck. His right hand rested on the side of my jaw while his left hand was pulling around my waist. He leaned in slowly, building up the momentum of the kiss. The kiss was soft at first before it turned hungry and demanding. We pulled away for air, silently promising each-other to continue this upstairs. He locked his car before we made our way up to my apartment. The elevator ride provided us with enough time for a short make-out session as he pushed me up against the wall, kissing me with urgency.

As it turns out the night was in-fact redeemable as I woke up the next morning not running off somewhere scared but in James arms where I thought I belonged.
