Harry is so stubborn but he's still pretty loveable. I totally agree couples therapy definitely would help them out. Harry's against it now but who knows, maybe he'll try it out. But I think it'd probably be a good idea for River to seek her own therapy for now . And I even more agree with you and that maybe Ryan's kind of right when he suspects that River's not enjoying her pregnancy as much as she could because Harry seems so cavalier. And her mother being super excited and slightly overbearing isn't really helping her at all. It will be interesting to see how her emotions continue to develop the further she gets into her pregnancy.

I really like River's mom but I do wish she had told her she was pregnant ngl. Hopefully she does soonish. As for the ending scene I know River saw Harry's actions especially at the end cold but idk...he actually seems like he cares in his own way. He just doesn't know how to show it.

Harry's behaviour is so frustrating ugh! It makes me wish he'd taken up River's couple therapy advice which I believe would've cleared up a lot of fog between them. I think the whole pregnancy thing has probably thrown her off a bit and feeling excited about it feels wrong especially when the husband seems so carefree, thus her mother's excitement being too overwhelming for her. It's like an all-dark tunnel for now and I don't see a bright end but there's always place to hope that everything goes alright for them.

No worries, I'd be rich is I had a dollar for all the fanfic I've had my eye out for reading but never got to it right away. I adore names that are unique and can work for either genders and I also wanted something sort of bohemian and River was it! It's so versatile! It can be a delicate, nature-y for a girl but strong and chill for a guy. It's a win.


I love it when readers give me different opinions! It really helps me to find different ways of approaching the character. Most readers have been unsuspect about Ryan so far. It's funny that you mention that because I'm looking to update the next chapter today or tomorrow and Ryan's a pretty big part of it. We shall see if your suspicion is correct the more we see him. Harry.. It's been so hard to write him as this cold jerk but there is a method to the madness.

Oh man so much to say after reading this.

First I saw this on tumblr but life has been crazy so I never found time to read it. Second I love the name River. I blame being a Hanson fan..one of them has a kid named River and its just one of my top names now lol.

Also I don't think I like Ryan much...I almost think he may cause trouble for River/Harry...well more trouble than they already have with their own stuff and ughs Harry was such a jerk and I can't wait to see why or read more and try to figure out why.

Yes! It's so cute! He might try to be discrete about it but it's so obvious! He's in love with the little bean! And you're right, because they both missed out on a lot of the first trimester, Harry especially is making up for that lost time. Harry and River are certainly the fight and make up type of couple which we'll see a lot more of as the story progresses but it's best that they just find a way to resolve their issues before the baby comes because it's really not good for children to grow up in an environment where their parents are always arguing. I'm finishing up the update as we speak and hope to have it out this week if not tomorrow or Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how everyone takes the news. So Harry's genuinely started to grow a care about his baby, and it's so cute to witness him like that. I think he feels that he's missed more than half of the first trimester and it's part reason why he acted so protective over the coffee situation. He might not be overreacting, but still he took it a bit too far by calling River selfish when she seems to care about the baby more than Harry ever did. Constant fighting isn't a good sign in their relation but then with them there's always room for apologies so I hope they can make it work. I just wish now that the announcement goes well with both families because there's enough to worry about for River without the family drama.

Sorry I always comment long ass paragraphs but it's just the way I am! Looking forward to the next update :)

You're too sweet!

I think you're right that Harry is slowly coming to terms with the fact that a baby isn't such a bad thing and probably would have happened eventually but I'm sure he and River as well would be happier if they were in a better place in their marriage but you're absolutely right that there's other reasons behind why Harry acts the way he does. We shall find out what it is later! River is so lucky to have a friend like Ryan! And you're right, there seems to be this unspoken angst he he has towards Harry and you're suspicions could be correct. There's so much to find out. And of course mothers know best. A baby girl! How sweet! I always picture Harry being a father to a little girl and being absolutely wrapped around her finger and being super protective of her. I'm a sucker for Dad Harry!

Ahh an update! It's good to see a caring Harry and hopefully I'll understand his deal. I think he's realized that babies were to happen sooner or later, and I know that it's more than just the pregnancy that's bugging him out. Ryan's such a good friend and seems to not be so fond of Harry. I'm suspecting something else about him but I guess we'll see! River's mother has surely seen through her daughter's act and now highly suspects that something's up, after all that's what mothers do! And I'm calling on a baby girl, it just feels right :)

Don't push yourself too hard, fillers are necessary for character development and story build-up so it's not that bad. Suffice to say you're a great writer and it's a unique story so I'm definitely waiting for more! :)

The ride is only to get bumpier along the way!

In all honestly it's so hard for me to write a fic were Harry is like this: a distant, emotionally detached asshole who I honestly want to slap around a bit sometimes. I'm so used to writing sweet, caring, golden boy Harry that this is a bit out of my comfort zone but I think it makes for some nice variety. And River's further along in her pregnancy than it seems so there's a lot more emotions to come through.

I'm so glad you said "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" because that's exactly what I was aiming for when I wrote this. This was supposed to be his way of "making it up to her" but really just seemed like it was for his own benefit than anything else really. Also makes him look really selfish as well.

A bit late but holy cheesecake this chapter was like an emotional ride like I feel there was so much going on - all in the good way - like with the things River's going through and Harry being so detached like what the hell bro what's wrong with you?! And about the sex, I'm getting a wham, bam, thank you ma'am kind of vibe (of course without the thank you ma'am part).......Anyways, I think the story's progressing absolutely amazingly and I can't wait to read more about River and her mother's past and Harry's hooligan like actions.

This is a great storyline! I really feel bad about what River's going through without her husband's support, but I know (and hope) that with time it would get better for her. Plus she's got Ryan and her mother who both seem like understanding figures so I think that's really nice for her :) and good luck for your finals I hope you do great!

I'm so glad you like it! I was worried that the pacing was too fast and that things went from 0-100 too quickly. You're so right about both River and Harry. Just by what we clearly see,River obviously puts more effort into trying to make their relationship work. Harry's attitude does have a back story which will be pretty important later on. And we'll explore more of River and Ryan's relationship dynamic.
