Heartbeat
Unexpected Text
Harry's POV
I was still filled with adrenaline and excitement from the concert as I was ushered off stage and given a bottle of water to soothe my aching throat from belting out lyrics for a few hours. Suddenly, my phone lit up as two different text messages from two different people appeared.
I sighed when I realized that Sophie, my on-and-off girlfriend had texted me to probably say sorry. I quickly texted her back, "It's okay." and opened the other message from unknown.
"Anne's dying. Meet in Royal London Hospital."
My heart dropped. After I joined the band, One Direction, I never really had time to visit her again, and when I did with a bouquet of carnations, I realized that she was transferred to a different hospital. And now, just out of the blue, someone just texted me, telling me that she was dying.
I clenched my jaw. Anne, the wonderful girl of my childhood, was dying. I immediately ran for the limo, yelling towards Louis, "It's Anne! I need to go see her." Louis immediately nodded, knowing about her because I had told him about her so many times.
I felt a tear trail down my face as the limo started moving. Why was I crying? I hadn't seen her in almost two years, for goodness sakes, and now I was crying about her before I even saw her?
--
As soon as I pulled into the hospital's parking lot, I hopped out of the limo and practically ran towards the hospital entrance. I almost crashed into the front desk, forcing a smile at the perplexed nurses.
"Anne...Rose?" I hesitantly whispered, the name that I hadn't spoken in so long rolled in my mouth.
--
After finally being directed to her room, I hesitantly opened the door to seeing a grieving mother with tears in her eyes holding the hand of an asleep angel of a girl. "Mrs. Rose?" I mumbled, causing her mother to look up in shock.
"Oh my god, Harry, it's been so long since I've seen you and my little girl together! Come here and give me a hug!" I immediately wrapped my arms around the round woman and turned back to Anne. As much as I missed this warm and friendly woman, Anne was my number one priority at the moment.
"Is she okay?" I asked. I mean, Anne looked alright, with rosy cheeks and shiny hair, but her skin was a bit off, almost as if it was a yellow-ish color and her hand that was now wrapped in mine was shaking.
Her mom bit her lip and shook her head sadly, blinking back a fresh wave of tears, "I'm afraid not...The doctors say that if she's lucky, she'll have one more year left to live.
