Summer Spells

One

For what feels like the hundredth time today, my hand rose to my head and wiped the sweat away. A sigh passed through my lips as my eyes glared up to the sky. The sun was set in the middle of the bright blue sky. There wasn't a cloud in the sky to protect us from the deadly rays of the sun. Another two hours before doors open to relieve us from this heat.

“Are you sure you're going to be alright, Kristy?” The girl next to me asked her friend. I looked to my right to examine the girl. Her brown hair was plastered to her bright red face.

“I don't know, I feel dizzy.” Even though we were lucky enough to be in the shade, the heat was still strong. Kristy's friend instructed her to hold onto the wall for support. Kristy reached her hand out but missed the wall, sending her unstable body to the pavement. Her head hit the pavement with a loud thud. A crimson color red was seeping out from her hair. Her friend let out a gasp and dropped to her knees. I threw my bag from my shoulder and joined the friend. I ripped off my cardigan and tried my best to wrap it around her head. I knew that first aid class would come in handy some day.

“Go get one of the staff members.” I said to the girl. “She needs to get help.” Her eyes traveled from Kristy to me. She rushed to her feet and began to push through the crowd of people.

“Kristy can you hear me?” Her eye lids flickered but did not open. I heard a man calling out for people to move. A couple of seconds later, I was joined by medics. Since it was so hot out here today, the medics were already on call.

“Thank you for your help, Miss.” The older medic said to me. They placed Kristy onto a stretcher and began to wheel her away. “If the bleeding wasn't stopped, she'd probably be dead.” He said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“Thank you so much for your help.” Kristy's friend cried. She wrapped her shaking arms around me. I tried my best not to touch her with my bloody hands.

“You're welcome, now go with her, she'll need you when she wakes up.” We exchanged numbers so I was able to be updated on Kristy's status. Soon I was alone, still kneeling on the hot pavement. Another unfamiliar hand was placed on my shoulder. I looked up to see a woman with a yellow Staff shirt on.

“Let's get you cleaned up.” She smiled, helping me to my feet. She parted the crowd and the two of us walked into the venue. The cold air from the AC wrapped itself around my body. I let out a sigh of relief when I was cooled down.

“The bathroom is over there.” The woman pointed. “Go wash up and I'll get you a water.”

“Thank you.” I looked down at my red hands and felt my eyes go wide. When I was outside, I didn't notice how much blood was actually on my hands. I looked like I just walked out of a horror movie.

Before I got to the bathroom, I saw a man rushing over to me. His face was taken over with pure horror.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

I nodded. “Someone fainted outside and lost some blood, I helped stop the bleeding.” I replied. My voice was monotone. It was actually weird how calm I was acting but that's normal. The man in front of me was soon joined by five good looking boys. None other than One Direction. Who everyone outside and myself were waiting to see. Their eyes popped out when they noticed my hands. Niall and Liam's jaw dropped a bit.

“Are you alright?” Harry asked. His green eyes were filled with worry. I nodded.

“Let her wash up, Harry.” Paul replied. I gave them a quick smile before walking straight into the bathroom. The cold water felt good on my blood soaked hands. Once my hands were dry, I stared at my reflection in the mirror. Since I used my cardigan on Kristy, I was only left in my purple tank top. The constant blowing of cold air on my skin was giving my skin goosebumps. I walked outside of the bathroom to find the five boys still standing there, waiting for my return.

“What happened?” Zayn asked.

“Did you get into a cat fight?” Louis asked, punching the air. I rolled my eyes and let out a small laugh.

“No, a girl outside fainted. She hit her head on the pavement so I wrapped my cardigan around her head to stop the bleeding.”

“Wow.” They all said in unison.

“That was brave of you.” Harry commented.
“Very.” Liam added.

“Is the girl okay?” Louis asked.

“They are taking her to the hospital now, I should know sometime later.” The Staff woman walked up behind the boys. She had a bottle of water in her hands. With a smile she handed me the water.

“Thank you so much.” I took in as much water as my mouth could hold. The guys were still staring at me with wide eyes.

“What, you never saw a girl drink water before?” I laughed. They just smiled. “I'm Hannah.” One by one they all came over to hug me.
