Skylar's POV

I was sitting on my front porch waiting for my aunt to come out so we can get going. I had my headphones in listening to The Fray's How To Save A Life. I love that song so much it wasn't my favorite but it was pretty close to it.

"Are you ready to go?" I heard my Aunt Tracy ask me.

"Ya," I said sadly.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Skylar Reese, I'm 16 years old and am leaving with my aunt. Why?, because my father died in a car accident when I was 11 and my mother is in the hospital with cancer. I'm living in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, with my aunt. I moved here from London a couple of years ago, but I lived in California for half my life. I am an only child. My mother and I moved to London after my father died. A couple of months ago, my Aunt Tracy moved in to take care of me while my mother is in the hospital. I think that I am old enough to take care of myself, but my mom thought other wise.

"Let's go then," she said with a fake smile.

I hated going to visit my mom in the hospital but I also loved it. I hated seeing her in so much pain, I hated hearing the doctors telling her, and us, that she won't survive. It hurts so much seeing the person that loves you, the person who took care of you, the person that you shared everything with, slowly going away. The feeling of knowing that doctors are telling her she can't make it is a feeling no one would like to feel.

I loved seeing the smile on her face when I enter the room. I love making her feel like there is hope, because there is. Eventhough doctors say that science and research shows she won't make it, I don't let her listen to them because I say if you believe in
yourself then anything can happen, no matter what people tell you.

I sat in the passenger seat with my eyes closed and headphones in. The ride to the hospital wasn't long, it's only 15 minutes away from our home. I opened my eyes when I felt a small shake on my shoulder.

"We're here," said Aunt Tracy taking the keys out of the ignition.

I took out my headphones and got out of the car. When we made it to the entrance, I could feel the cold air, smell the medicines and gloves, and worst of all I could feel the sadness of the people in the waiting rooms. We went up the elevator and to my mother's room.

"Hi mom," I said with a bright smile but trying to hide the tears.

"Hey, how's my Sky-baby?" she asked opening her arms signaling for me to hug her.

"I'm fine, how have you been?" I asked not wanting to let go of her.

"I'm doing better" she said with a small smile as I stepped back from the hug.

I walked to the dry erase board across from her bed that had all of her medications and medicines that she had to take today, and picked up a marker. I wrote on an empty space 'I love you to the moon and back', then drew a circle with stars around, trying to make it look like the sky.

She looked up from her conversation with Aunt Nancy and saw what I had put on the board.

"Aw, Sky I love it and I love you," she said happily.

"I love you too," I said as I went to lay next to her on the bed.

"Mom, can I ask you something?" I asked her sadly.

"Of course," she said a little confused.

"Can you promise me that you won't die?" I asked trying to hold back the tears.

"Sky-baby, you know what the doctors said," she said also trying to hold back tears.

" I know, but promise me... promise me that if you do pass away, that you will always be with me?" I asked with a tear shedding from my eye, but she was quick to wipe it away.

"I promise," she said with a smile, I loved seeing her happy, or at least a smile on her face.

"Skylar, it's getting late, we should head home," I heard Aunt Tracy say.

"Okay," I said giving my mom one last hug.

"I love you Sky."

" I love you too mom, see you tomorrow," I said getting up from the bed.

"Bye Rosy," I heard Aunt Tracy tell mom.

"Bye Tracy," she replied.

"Bye mom," I said heading to the door.

"Bye Sky-baby," she said waving.

I really didn't want to leave her in this place I wanted to stay with her 24/7, but I know I can't.

We went down the elevator and to the lobby. Then, I notice one of my favorite doctors, he was my moms doctor for about a week but had to switch shifts with another doctor. He actually tells mom to keep thinking positive instead of negative. He was basically my second dad once we found out about my mom having cancer.

"Hello, Dr. Richards," I said waving to him.

"Hello Skylar, how are you?" he asked with a smile.

"I'm fine, just came to visit my mom."

"How is she?"

"She's doing better," I said with a fake smile.

"That's great, have a good night you two," he said waving to Aunt Tracy and I.

"You too," we said in unison. Then began to walk out the front doors.

The car ride home seemed shorter than the ride to the hospital. Once I saw the house come into view, I unbuckled my seat belt and took out my headphones I had put in earlier.
I walked through the front door and took off my jacket.

"Goodnight Aunt Tracy."

"Goodnight Skylar."

After saying good nights, I walked up the stairs and to my room. I instantly jumped on the bed exhausted. Eventhough I didn't want to get up, I had to change into more comfortable clothes. I closed my bedroom door and changed into sweats and a tank top. After I was changed, I laid back on my bed letting my sleepiness take over.
