Safe and Sound
Prologue
“Oh c’mon Amira, this isn’t like you to pass up a concert! You love concerts!” I said to my cousin, clasping my hands together and giving her my best puppy dog eyes. “Its just one night, why would you pass it up?”
“Because I’ve got a massive paper due for Ramsey next week and I really need to get started on it! You know that, Dahlia. Plus I don’t even know whatever band you want to drag me to see.” She said, frowning. Ever since she started university, she’s become a lot more serious about schoolwork. This is university, this stuff actually counts a lot more. I sighed. I totally get where she’s coming from on this, but c’mon!
“I heard Helena might be there…” I prompted. If this didn’t work, then I’ve completely lost her. There’s no hope. She’s been brainwashed by Ramsey and all of her other professors.
I saw her pause. I could see the wheels turning in her head. I knew she was calculating how much damage one more day could do to her paper procrastination. I think I saw the exact moment she made her decision. She got this look on her face – I don’t exactly know how to describe it. But you just know that she made up her mind.
“Fine. But if she’s not there, I won’t be afraid to cut you.”
I squealed with excitement. We were going to see a small no name punk band in a dive bar, but this was the kind of thing that I lived and breathed. I loved when I could get down and dirty in the mosh pit. And this band was supposed to be amazing live. I was sure we wouldn’t forget tonight.
Oh just how right I was.
