Something Great

Chapter 2

Rebecca's P.O.V~

The light was shining through the drapes as I slowly crawled out of bed. I glided over to my vanity and unlocked the bottom left drawer using a key that was inside a tiny box on the counter. Pulling out a green leather, number-locked journal, I tried to recall the details of my dream. I spun the dials until the numbers read 2194, the birthday of the subject of the dream, and released the latch and began writing. As I finished, I heard the knob of my door twisting. I had just enough time to lock the journal by putting the latch back on and randomizing the numbers once again when the door burst open, revealing my best friend, and Louis' girlfriend, Eleanor Calder.

"Wake up, lazy bitch! Oh, you're awake.' She laughed, turning on my light. "Did you have another dream?" She motioned to the leather book poorly hidden under a pillow.

Silently, I unlocked it and let her read the latest entry. As she read, Eleanor raised her eyebrows and smirked. She handed the diary back to me, which I re-locked and placed back in the drawer with the other dream diaries inside and locked that as well.

Each diary is a different colour for the different kinds of dreams that I have. They also have different combinations corresponding with that dream type. Black for nightmares, red for funny dreams, blue for calming dreams, and green for Harry dreams. I don't know why but it calms me down when I write about my dreams.

"When did you get here, Ellie?" I asked.

"About 5 minutes ago. Ready for Sunday Brunch?" She replied.

"No. I have no idea what to wear."

"Let's see what you got, love." Eleanor dragged me to my walk-in closet and skimmed through the racks.

After having a mini try-on-a-thon, we finally decided on a black hooded crop that said 'Just Do It Later', light blue, ripped jeans, and mint vans. I put my long, wavy, fawn-coloured hair into a cute messy bun and put my glasses on since i didn't feel like searching for my contact lenses. Eleanor transferred the contents of my purse to a small black backpack. El also got ready in my room, wearing a simple, baby pink dress and white converse.

We gathered our things and made our way downstairs where everyone was waiting. I saw that Gigi and Cheryl were sitting next to their boyfriends. As I moved deeper into the sitting area, my heart dropped, my smile faded, and the room started spinning. Eleanor had to put her hand on my lower back to balance me.

Right next to the curly-haired boy that i liked deeply, was a bleach-blonde woman with her leg on top of his.

"Wh-what's up, Val?" I waved at the smug looking bitch. Seeing his hand on her knee made me feel like throwing up.

She was wearing a strapless, bright pink tube top, black leggings and white TOMS covered in rhinestones. Her caked face made her look like a discount clown. And her floral tattoos and from her arms to her chest to mid-neck.

"Valerie is joining us for brunch, I guess." Harry squeezed her thigh and forced a smile as she glared at him. I'm assuming for sounding annoyed when giving the news.

Still fake smiling, El and I went up and gave the unexpected guest a reluctant hug. I felt like I couldn't breathe because if I did, her excessive perfume fumes would suffocate me to death. I just hoped no one noticed.

"Shall we go?" I asked, pulling away quickly and speed-walking out the door before anyone could respond.

We had two vehicles to split into. Harry's and Louis'. Normally, I would be riding with Harry in the shotgun seat. However, since Valerie is here, I don't want to be anywhere near their stupid 'romance' so I'll be riding with Lou, Ellie, Zayn, and Gigi.

I know. Falling for your best friend is so cliche. But, in my defence, I was in love with him way before we even considered each other friends.

I met everyone through Eleanor when she brought me to a party that Louis was hosting about four years ago. Originally, Only Louis and Harry lived there. Typical bachelor pad. That was until Lou and El got serious. Soon after I met everyone, they moved into another flat together, leaving Harry on his own. I'd just moved to London and I was staying with El until I found a more permanent solution. Louis suggested that I move in with Harry, as flatmates of course. after much persuasion, Harry finally agreed. The first few months, he annoyed me to no end. I eventually got used to it and he got bored. We decided to be friends since we didn't really have a choice. Aaaand then I started falling for that loser.

"You okay, Becca?" Zayn looked at me worriedly.

Everyone knew about my pathetic feelings except the person these pathetic feelings are meant for.

"I'll be alright, Zee." I smiled halfheartedly. "I know I'm not his type, I just can't help but feel this way."

"Harry said the Valerie just invited herself when he mentioned him being busy this morning," Louis said, catching my gaze through the rear-view mirror.

"Sounds like her," I shrugged. Just then, my phone dinged. A text from Harry.

H- Why are you acting so weirddd :p

R- Idk what you're talking about

H- oh c'mon you stormed out of the house and practically ditched me when we left the flat

R- Well you seem preoccupied with your girlfriend

H- I wish I wasn't with her either

R- Then why not dump her already?

Louis parked next to Harry and everyone hopped out. The lads formed a circular barricade around the girls to protect us from the paparazzi and fans.

"Are you really that upset?" His low voice sent chills down my spine as I felt his breath creep over my neck as his lips grazed my ear.

"I'm fine!" I replied, moving swiftly away from Harry.

"Come on, Bex!" He called after me loudly. I ignored him.

We were led to a rectangular shaped table for ten once we got inside. On the first row, in order, was me, Eleanor, Louis, Niall, and Zayn. Across from me was Harry (of course he would), then Valerie, Liam, Cheryl, and Gigi, who sat across from Zayn.

Everyone started their own conversations as soon as we were all settled. El and I talked about needing to catch up on Brooklyn 99 together soon. Harry was talking to Valerie, or rather Valerie was talking to Harry, about needing him to buy her new pumps bc hers were out of season. I stopped listening after accidentally making eye-contact with him.

Soon after we were seated, a waiter came to take drink orders. The waiter started with Harry (coke) and worked his way around.

"And for the beautiful lady?" The waiter winked at me. I felt my phone vibrate in my lap. I had a text from Harry.

'Strawberry smoothie ;)' It said. I rolled my eyes. He's probably just trying to get me to stop being upset.

"I'll have a strawberry smoothie, thanks," I grumbled as Harry smirked at me. He knows so much about me yet he has shown no sign that he knows I'm in love with him. Thank God!

"I will have the drinks out in a few moments." With another wink in my direction, the not-so-subtle waiter disappeared behind the kitchen door.

"Oh my god, Bex! That waiter was totally hittin-" I held my hand up to stop Valerie from finishing her sentence.

"Let me stop you right there." The whole table silenced. "Don't ever call me that again," I said with a visibly fake smile.

"I thought everyone had a nickname for you. And since I'm Harry's girlfriend-" Harry went into a coughing fit earning a glare from his 'girlfriend'. " I thought I could use his nickname."

"Then maybe you shouldn't think." I snapped.

Half of the group snickered, including Harry and El. Louis and Liam were scowling at me. What dads'. Cheryl and Gigi were confused bc they could hardly hear. Zayn covered his mouth to prevent a laughing fit. Niall was laughing his ass off and had to be held up by Liam and Zayne so he didn't fall backwards.

Valerie glared at everyone and then looked down at the table.

I absolutely hated people calling me 'Bex'! Harry is the only person allowed. Only because when we first met he teased me with the name and it stuck.

The table was silent for a few moments. In those moments, our drinks were brought out and we ordered our food. I've never had much of an appetite so Harry always shares his plates with me. Today we got an order of French Toast. I, all of a sudden, got deja vu from my dream.

I may be sad by the presence of his guest, but I can't ever stay mad at Harry very long. He is one of my many weaknesses.

"Hey, Becky. Isn't your birthday in a few days?" All eyes turned to me.

"It's tomorrow actually." I beamed. "I finally turn 21 years old!"

"What's the plan? How do you want to spend the day?" Liam asked.

"I was thinking that the girls and I go shopping in the morning, everyone meets up for lunch at Olive Garden, then Disney movie marathon, and finally," I paused for dramatic effect.

"Bar hopping!!!" Everyone, but Valerie, exclaimed in unison. We all laughed.

Finally, waitresses came out holding trays of food. They passed around the steaming plates, handing me an empty one as I was sharing with the green-eyed boy sitting across from me.
Harry transferred half of his French Toast to mine. Sharing food is somewhat of second nature after many years of living together.

"What do you want for your birthday?" Cheryl asked.

I had just opened my mouth to answer when I was interrupted.

"She wants a puppy." Another glare was sent Harry's way from his date. I smirked a bit, as Harry is focusing more on me and it's making her antsy.

"Oh, I love puppies so much! I already have planned names!"

"What are they?" Gigi semi-shouted from across the table.

"Gina for a girl."
"Her favourite Brooklyn 99 character," Eleanor explained.

"And Teddy for a boy." I smiled.

"Because you love bears." Louis squealed like a child.

"Those names are so adorable and they mean something to you. Super cute!" Zayn gushed.

"Anything else on your wishlist, love?" Niall questioned.

"Um, oh! I've always wanted a charm bracelet with charms that represent each of you."

"Awe, babe. That's so sweet." Eleanor stated with a toothy smile.

Our conversations continued on the subject of my birthday until everyone finished eating.

The boys paid for their girlfriends and Niall paid for me. Hashtag single lyfe amirite? Anyway, we piled into our cars and headed to my flat.
