Ohhhh.. water guns

MYA POV:
“Oh. my. god. Why would she mention FUSE?” I huffed as I sat down on the bright green bean bag.

The girls and I were upstairs in the loft, music playing, textbooks spread everywhere, us sighing over the amount of work left we had to complete.

“Cause she’s your mother.” Coraline laughed, sinking further into her own bean bag.

“If she ever makes us sing in front of them, I-” I threatened.

“Calm down,” Roxy stopped me, leaning forward from her yoga ball, “This will all blow over.” She waved off.

“I think it's a little too late for that,” Coraline laughed, “considering you pretty much told them everything about it already.”

“You guys are being really slack on them.” Roxy randomly changed the topic, playing with a pen.

“What?” Coraline looked confused at me, “No, we’re not,” She looked at me for reassurance.

“They have just come from the UK, leaving family and friends behind and you guys treat them like they are the worst people you’ve ever met.” Roxy tried to stick up for them.

“Don’t be so dramatic!” I scoffed, rolling my eyes, “It's just some friendly banter.”

“Just go easy on them.” Roxy sighed, grabbing a textbook.

“We’ll see,” Coraline laughed, “anyways, we already know you have a thing for Niall.” She smirked.

“Shut up!” Roxy blushed, throwing a nearby purple pillow at Coraline.

“You were practically drooling over him during dinner” I added with a laugh.

“Mya!” Roxy tackled me to the ground, “Enough!” She laughed, covering my mouth.

“Come on, admit that you fancy Niall!” Coraline asked.

“Fine!” She yelled, getting off of me and standing up, “I kinda like him...” Roxy blushed.

“Ha, called it!” We heard an Irish accent say from outside the door.

We all looked at each other wide-eyed, rushing to open the office door. We found them all standing there, ears dropping on our whole conversation.

They looked as shocked as we did, “Shit.” Niall whispered.

We crossed our arms and glared at them, “Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Coraline stared at them.

“We were just-” Louis started to say, looking at the boys for assistance, “looking for the bathroom…?”

“Of course you were,” I fake agreed with them.

Without a second thought, they immediately bolted out of our vision, heading back downstairs.

“Should we go after them?” Roxy asked, slightly embarrassed about the whole situation.

“Nahhh,” I looked at Coraline, “I have a better idea,” I smirked.

We casually walked downstairs to find the boys outside, sitting around the outdoor table, blankets wrapped around their cold frames. As subtle as I could, I opened the storage cupboard near the bottom of the stairs. I moved a couple of old brown boxes around until I found the one labelled ‘old pool toys’. To my delight, the things I was looking for were still in there from when I was a kid.

“Water guns?” Roxy questioned as she saw me pull them out of the cupboard.

“Yep,” I smirked.

“Ohhhh.. water guns.” Roxy finally realised what we doing, smirking as well.

We filled them up by the kitchen and strolled casually to the backyard area, water guns behind our back, “Hey boys.” I smiled sweetly.

They stared at us, questioning our motives. I think Liam was the first one who started to realise we were not up to good, “Whatcha got there behind you back Mya?” He asked unsurely.

“Surprise?” I looked at the girls.

Liam motioned for the boys to get up, although they were unsure as to why he was doing this, they followed his instructions and started to walk backwards slowly.

“We were just walking past the door and heard the conversation, that’s all, we swear?” Zayn tried to defend his friends.

“Didn’t your mother tell you not to swear?” Coraline smirked back.

“Attack!” I yelled as we all aimed our water guns at the boys.

We started firing the cold water at them, resulting in numerous screams and shouting. Water was flying everywhere, Coraline using bushes and chairs as cover. The darkness of the night helped our situation, the garden lights only illuminating where the boys were hiding. I must admit, they were trying their best to stop us. The boys were trying to tackle us or doge the spray, but they were no match for our skills. All those pool parties that we went to when we were younger were starting to pay off.

I was mostly aiming at Harry, of course, but occasionally hitting Zayn and Louis who took turns in protecting him.

Low on ammo, I started to get worried. I think Harry noticed by the change on my face because he started to head towards my direction, “That’s it!” Harry smirked, picking me up and putting me over his shoulder.

“Harry!” I squealed, “Let me go now!” I laughed.

“I think it is lovely weather for a swim! Don’t you?” He laughed.

“No! It’s bloody eight o’clock at night!” I tried to wiggle out of his grip as he approached the edge of my pool.

“One...” Harry began to yell.

“Harry, PLEASE!” I whined, just barely seeing the rest of the boys and girls over his shoulder.

“Please? Wow. Never thought I would hear you say that love,” He replied, standing at the very edge of the deep end, “Two...”

“Harry! Please, I will do anything!” I didn’t want to go for a swim, the water was freezing and I didn’t want to catch another cold. I saw Coraline and Roxy laughing and smiling from afar, not stopping Harry at all. Bitches.

“Beg.” He replied. Although I couldn’t see his face, I knew he was smirking.

“Never!” I shouted, hitting my hand on his back playfully.

There was a pause and for a split second, I thought he was going to let me go,“Three!” He yelled, his grip gone from my body as he threw me in the water.

The cold water was an instant slap in the face. My pool had been tiled a tacky deep green colour and the fact that it was quite deep, made me a bit disoriented. Lucky for him, I had compulsory swimming lessons when I was in primary school, allowing me to reach the surface of the pool quickly.

As soon as I opened my eyes, everyone was laughing and clapping at Harry work, “Whoops-” Harry smirked, “you must have just slipped out of my hands there love.”

“Ha.Ha.Ha. Very funny Styles. Now do me a favour? Be a gentleman and help me out of here?” I smiled cheekily, knowing what I was going to do next.

“It’s the least I can do,” Harry admitted as he walked towards me.

I held my hand out, waiting for him to grab it. When he did, he held it for a moment, looking deep into my eyes, smiling with his dimples. But before he could actually help me, I pulled him into the pool with me, wiping that smirk off his face.

More laughs erupted from the boys, impressed by my work. It wasn’t long until Harry surfaced next to me, “Hey!” He splashed me, his once bouncy curly hair now stuck to his forehead.

“I can’t believe you fell for that!” Louis laughed from the table, “Oldest trick in the book mate!”

Harry rolled his eyes in response, splashing me one more time.

“As fun as this was, it’s getting really cold,” Coraline said, shivering and folding her arms, “I’m gonna go inside, Roxy?” She asked.

“Agreed.” She nodded, then looked towards the boys, “Boys?” Roxy smiled.

“Yea not gonna lie, my soaked clothes aren't exactly making me any warmer,” Liam spoke as he too held his arms over his torso.

“You know where the towels are Coraline!” I yell from the pool, causing her to wave the boys back inside.

“See you inside later Harry...” Zayn yelled then winked, following the gang.

Harry and I kept splashing and mucking around for a while longer. We had both decided that the stars were exceptionally beautiful tonight, causing us to float on our backs and stare up. The slight glimmer of the moon reflected back onto the surface of the pool, turning into the light giving us visibility.

I sat up, suddenly remembering how long we had been out here for, “My mum is going to kill us” I groaned, causing Harry to sit up as well.

“What do you mean?” He asked, swimming closer to me.

“My mum hates chlorine in my clothes. Harder for her to clean.” I looked at him, “We better get out...” I decided, motioning with my head towards the stairs of the pool.

“Yea I don’t think I want to have a cold in my first week of school.” Harry agreed.

“It was fun though,” I said quietly, getting the hang of my balance, my clothes weighing me down.

“Yea, it was.” I heard him say behind me.

CORALINE POV
“Girl, where are you?” I yelled into my phone.

“I’m nearly there-” Mya replied quickly, “calm your farm!” She groaned.

“KK, bye.” I replied and put my phone back in my blazer pocket.

I only live a street down from Mya, so every morning I wait for her at the bottom of the hill and we walk to school together. This ritual started immediately from year seven, Mya had fallen over on her way to school and luckily, I - her hero, helped her the rest of the journey. From that day, we became best friends, walking together for four years - coffee being the only addition recently.

“See?!” Mya laughed, behind me, “I was like a minute away.” She said, her chest rising and falling quickly.

“Yea, because you ran-” I laughed, “here.” I smiled, passing her a coffee.

“Aw thanks babe!” Mya hugged me, “Just what I needed”

We started walking towards our school, our topic of choice today was upcoming and recent movies we wanted to see. I love a good ol convo as much as the next person, but I realised something as she got halfway through her review of ‘scream 4’.

“Mya?” I asked, sipping on my coffee and interrupting her monologue.

“Yeah?” She answered back, probably confused as to why I interrupted her.

“Where’s the English lad?” I had noticed Harry was missing.

“He slept in.” Mya smirked.

“And you didn’t wake him up?” I questioned again, looking at her.

“Nope, he has to learn the hard way I’m afraid.” She smiled, taking a drink.

“Mya, you could have at least woken him up for his first day of school” I frowned.

“What do you mean?” She stopped walking, “I’m not responsible for him-” She said as she pointed back at the direction of her house, coffee still in hand, “anyways, why do you care?” She began to walk again, “You going soft on me Coraline?”

“No of course not, just didn’t think you were going that tough on him.” I gave her a side hug as we approach the front gates of the school.

I walked into my biology class with a smile on my face. This was the only subject that had a class of ten and that’s why I loved it so much. The people in my class weren’t annoying or rude, they were nice and most importantly, they cared about biology. I was by myself though, no one in my group had taken this subject but I didn’t care, I had a good class and a cool teacher. Because this subject was not very popular, they had to join year ten and year eleven together - which means it was co-head, which I ain’t upset about either.

I took a seat next to Felix, the classic brainiac of the bunch, “Hey, Coraline.” He smiled while taking out his books.

“Hey, Felix,” I smiled back politely, “Have you seen Bethany?” Bethany is my lab partner and I lowkey haven’t seen her for a least a week.

“No, pretty sure she’s in Thailand.” Felix nodded, reassuring himself.

“What?” I frowned, “She didn’t tell me she was going away?” I asked shocked.

“Yeah, she moved her holiday forward apparently, she asked me to send her notes.” He shrugged, not bothered by the news.

“Oh okay then, thanks for the heads up Bethany.” I muttered to myself, placing my head on the desk, “I need a partner for the final exam” I thought out loud.

Like clockwork, my teacher walked into the room, precisely one minute early, “Right class, today we have a new student with us, he should be joining us soon...”

The door to the classroom flung open, “I’m here! I’m here! Sorry that I’m a bit late.” He huffed, hand on his chest, trying to catch his breath

I looked up to see him. Of course it’s him.

“This is Liam-” My teacher began, “he is on exchange from the Uk.” He smiled, Liam standing next to him, looking eager.

“Yay.” I sarcastically whispered, sinking into my chair.

“Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?” My teacher asked as he turned around to write up work on the whiteboard.

“Well, um, my name is Liam, Liam Payne and I’m from a place in England called Wolverhampton. I’m good at most sports and I enjoy biology, obviously.” He awkwardly laughed.

“Great-” He cut him off, clearly not listening to anything Liam was saying, “so your partner will be...” He said looking around the class, “Ahhh, Coraline! Since your partner is going to be absent for a while, you can be Liam's partner.”

“Kill me now.” I covered my face.

“Is there something wrong Miss Wellington?” Sir asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Nope. Just peachy.” I faked smiled.

“Great.” He smiled back, “Liam, go take a seat.”

“What’s wrong?” Felix whispered over my shoulder.

“Let’s just say we have already met, and I’m not really fond of him being my new lab partner.” I faked smiled.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, he can’t be THAT bad, surely.” Felix brushed it off.

“Now, turn to page 214 in your textbook please.” My teacher smiled, opening his own textbook, the only difference being his had post-it notes stuck everywhere.

I went through my tote bag, trying to find my textbook, rummaging around muesli bars and other papers. As I turned to the right page, I could see that to my side, Liam had taken a seat at the desk adjacent.

“Hi Coraline.” Liam leaned and whispered to me as the teacher was discussing the content of the chapter.

“Yeah, hi.” I replied not caring, not letting myself look up from the textbook.

“Um could I-” Liam started to ask.

“Look-” I finally looked at him, “biology is like the one thing I’m good at and I’m not preparing to fail it cause some hot British boy rocks up as my new partner. So don’t drag me down with you, cause it’s not going to be pretty for any of us.” I cleared the air.

He looked like he was processing everything I had just said until he finally replied, “You think I’m hot?”

“Seriously?” I looked at him dumbfounded, “Was that the only thing you got out of that?”

“No...” He smiled, “I understand what you said. But can we try to be friends at least?”

“I will just stick with acquaintances for now.” I opened my pencil case, “Your job as my partner is to sit there, look pretty and listen to what I say.”

“You know I do know a fair bit about biology, that’s why I’m taking the class-” He sassed me.

“Shhh-” I shut him up, looking back down on my textbook, “Work.” I said as I pointed to the sentence I was about to highlight.

“Coraline-” He began again.

“Chiudere la bocca dude.” I blinked at him. Oh my god, he’s so annoying.

“What language was that?” Liam tried to ask, curious.

I didn’t reply, knowing that if I did, it would just continue the conversation that I didn’t need right now. He didn’t seem bothered, he just shrugged his shoulders and finally decided to open his book.

This is gonna be a long year.
