You're Harry, I know

MYA POV:
Today is THE day. Today my older sister Jess is travelling to England for an exchange ‘experience’. In absence of her, we ‘luckily’ get the opportunity to welcome a complete stranger into our home. The only thing I know about him so far is his name - Harry Styles. How am I, Mya Walters, a sixteen-year-old girl, supposed to live with this person for six months?

I’ve filled in my friends about this whole situation, who I expect to back me up when I say this, “I would rather be anywhere right now then in that house with him” I slammed my books down the table.

“What?! Why!” Almost all of them replied back.

I’m currently at school, on my lunch break in the courtyard, sitting at our group’s usual table, “Come on guys! I’ve read his profile that was sent to us. This guy sounds like a classic, seventeen-year-old kid who uses the fact that he has a cute accent to pick up girls.” I pointed out as I drank my ice tea.

“You got all of that from one page of his profile?” Roxanne replied, “I wouldn’t jump to conclusions. So what if he is British?” She shrugged, “-and yes by the looks of things,” She smirked, looking at his photo, “he is pretty cute!”

“Looks can be deceiving guys.” Coraline judged.

“Thank you!” I huffed, “At least someone is understanding what I'm trying to say”, I smiled at Coraline.

“When do you have to meet him?” Millie asked.

“I’m not really sure-” I began as I looked down at my lock screen.

“Sorry for this interruption. Could Stewart Wonarld, Rebecca Chistle, Alec Vanto, David Caleb and Mya Walters go to the main office? Thank you.” The office lady sounded through the speakers.

“Speak of the devil.” Millie nudged me.

“Great.” I sighed, starting to walk in the direction of the office, “Wish me luck.” I yelled, looking back at my group with a smirk.

“GOOD LUCK!” I heard Millie yell.

...

I was nearly at the huge entrance doors of the main office, walking past the girl's section and the boys.

You see my school is divided into three buildings - juniors co-head, senior boys and senior girls. From year seven to year nine, you were in the junior co-head building, then from years ten to twelve you are split up - senior boys at one building and senior girls at another. The school thought it was a ‘great’ idea to split us when we hit senior year so that we can focus on our senior studies and exams. There are two exceptions to this rule. The first being that you are allowed to sit together at recess/lunch AND if there is a small intake of a particular subject, they will sometimes combine the seniors into one class.

But that's not the only different thing about my school... we have to wear a uniform. This is a common thing in Australia, particularly in high schools. To be honest it’s probably the best uniform I could ask for. It is pretty much a choice of skirt or pants with a button-up shirt, blazer/jumper and choice of black shoes. Jewellery isn't too much of an issue nor hairstyles.

“Stewart” Miss Cole brought back my attention, “This is your student, Louis.”

I looked up at this Louis guy, he was pretty darn cute. Though there was a slight glint in his gorgeous green eyes that made me think he would be up to no good.

“Rebecca, this is Niall.” She read from her list.

His quick ‘hello, how are you’ defined his accent. He seemed sweet and innocent. The mixture of his crooked smile and shaggy blonde hair intrigued me.

“Liam, meet Alec.” Miss Cole smiled.

He seemed nice as well, though he looked more mature than the rest of the guys here.

“David, this is Zayn.” She motioned them.

He looked quite mysterious, not easy to read. He stood out the most among the five guys.

“And last but not least, Harry this is Mya.” She smiled and put her clipboard away.

His curly hair was the first thing that stood out to me, perfectly swept to one side. His bright emerald eyes caught me off guard, a half smile planted on his face as he intently looked at me.

“Um-” He half laughed, “not to be rude, but she’s not the girl we were told about?” He said to Miss Cole in a deep accent.

“Hi to you too, asshole,” I whispered looking down.

“Sorry?” Harry frowned looking at me.

I fake coughed, “Nothing.” I nonchalantly replied.

“Well, I’m afraid there is no mistake here. Must you be thinking of Jess? She has gone on the exchange as well. I think they forgot to inform you about Jess’ little sister, Mya? She will replace Jess.” She smiled confidently, trying to convince Harry and me.

“Oh.” Harry simply said, “no problem”.

“Don’t worry, I know she’s only a grade younger than you, but I’m sure you will have a blast.” She told both of us reassuringly.

“Mhm.” I sarcastically replied, already heading out the office doors.

“Wait!” I heard him yell after me.

I stopped at the bottom of the stairs, “Yes?”

“I haven’t properly introduced myself, love,” He smiled cheekily at me, continuing to walk down the steps. “I’m H-” He started, handshake at the ready.

“You're Harry, I know.” I laughed, starting to walk again.

“Not a handshaking-type of a person babe?” He questioned as he caught up to walk beside me, heading towards the girl's section of the building.

“No, I just don’t want to make this a bigger thing than it has to be.” I shrugged.

“What? Being friends?” He smiled, showing his dimples.

“Exactly! This is strictly going to be an ‘I won't bother you so you won’t bother me’ situation. Got it? Just stay here while I get my books and bag.” I looked at him seriously.

“I could come with you?” He asked.

“You can’t.” I told him straightly, “this is the girls building, you're not allowed to enter.” I stated the obvious, but a look of confusion washed over his face, “...It’s part of school rules” I added, him continuing to give me a confused look, “Have you even read the school rules?” I asked, shocked at him.

“No.” He replied with a cheeky grin.

“Whatever, suit yourself, get in trouble.” I sighed.

“So I’m just gonna wait here?” He seemed puzzled.

“Yep, stay,” I told him.

“Fun.” He glared at me.

I glared back and headed back to my group.

HARRY POV:
Oh my god.

What have I gotten myself into? When Simon suggested we take six months off to finish our studies before the hype of x-factor, I thought it was a reasonable idea. Six months in sunny Australia with the four lads seemed pretty great. But this girl. Man. I feel like I’ve already done something wrong but I’m not sure what. She seems upset about something but I hate to pry. I know one thing is for sure, I’m not going to let her negativity affect my experience. I decided to ignore her request and kept walking in the same direction as she was.

“Damn.” I heard a girl whisper, looking up at me.

“What?” Mya frowned turning around to face me, “Dude I told you that you can’t be here.”

“I was lonely.” I shrugged.

“What-” Mya started but got interrupted by a hand covering her mouth.

“Shhhh Mya, stop talking nonsense,” She smiled sweetly, “I’m Roxanne, but you can call me Roxy, a pleasure to meet you.”

“Finally, a friendly face! Harry, babe.” I smirked. Another girl laughed, I’m gathering another person who is not my number one fan, “What your name love?” I asked.

“Coraline.” She crossed her arms.

“Lovely to meet you,” I genuinely smiled, “Right so Mya, aren’t you gonna introduce me to the rest of your gorgeous friends?” I looked at her.

“No.” She glared at me, “Ouch.” She clenched her jaw, Roxy pinching her arm and giving her a stern look.

“She means of course.” Roxy looked at Mya, Mya sighing in reply.

“So you’ve met Roxanne and Coraline-” She started, “this is Millie and Annabeth.” She pointed to the two other girls.

“Hi” I winked at them.

“Well, Harry has to go now.” Mya stood up, grabbing her things and walking towards me.

“No, I don’t.” I frowned.

“Yes, yes you do, we are going to my place. I’ve got a free period and you officially don’t start until tomorrow.” Mya informed me.

“Really? Wow, normally I would buy a girl a drink first before going back to her place” I smirked, loving this banter.

“Ew no, in your dreams.” She simply said, dragging me away from her friends, “I’ll see you girls tomorrow!” She smiled, turning back to them.

“I’ll text you later hun!” Coraline replied.

...

We walked to Mya’s house, which wasn’t that far from school really. Her house was like an old cottage. It had lots of wildflowers growing in the front yard, a tiled footpath, two old gum trees at the front (I thought they were oak trees until Mya quickly corrected me) and a huge wooden front door with an old sign with the words ‘mia mia’ on it.

*Meow* I heard a noise coming from behind the swing seat near the front door, “Do you have a cat?” I asked.

Mya looked down, seeing the fluffy cat come out of the shadows, “Yeah, her name is Ginger. She’s old, so she’s pretty timid.” Mya smiled down at Ginger.

I crouched down to Ginger and patted her fur, she was so cute and was purring quite loudly, “Hello, you’re so cute, aren’t you.” I smiled talking to Ginger.

“You like cats?” Mya asked, grabbing the house keys.

“Yeah, love them! Have one back home in Cheshire.” I smiled, looking up at her.

“Ha, like the Cheshire cat from ‘alice in wonderland’?” Mya smiled back at me.

This was the first time I noticed how lovely her smile was. The slight gust of wind made her chocolate brown hair move in the light of the sun. I think I was staring a little too long, as she blushed and tucked some hair behind her ear.

“Yeah, something like that.” I broke the eye contact, standing up.

“Come on.” She opened the door, gesturing to go inside the house.

I followed her in, dropping my suitcase off near the front. It was just how I imagined it to be - lovely decorated but not too spacious. I found out that there were nine rooms: the main lounge room, kitchen, two bathrooms, three bedrooms, loft type area (which could be turned into a bedroom/lounge room), office and a backyard.

“Ridiculous, I know,” Mya said with an annoyed tone.

“What? No, it’s lovely!” I smiled at her.

“Well, I have an assessment to do, so I’m gonna go. Feel free to eat or drink anything you like.” She walked off, down the hall and to the right.

“Yea. Sure.” I told myself, still looking around the place.

I decided to go and look around for a while. There were lots of old paintings hung on the walls, I’m presuming her parents were into their art. Among the paintings was one picture frame that had Mya in it, along with her mum, dad and sister I’m guessing. She looked a lot like her mum I thought. As I was looking, I heard an opening and closing of the front door.

That’s when I heard footsteps approach from behind me, “Can I help you darl?” I heard a voice.

I turned around to see the woman who was in the photo with Mya, “I’m Harry Styles, the exchange student from England.” I smiled widely. Mya’s mum was quite attractive I must admit.

“Ohhh of course!” She smiled, “Now you look familiar!” The women hugged me tightly, “I’m Libby, Mya and Jess’ mum.” She released the hug.

“So do I call you Mrs Walters or-” I asked politely.

“Libby is fine sweetheart,” She reassured, “So-” She started, putting down her car keys and taking off her heels “It is almost five, are you hungry?” She asked, walking out towards the direction of the kitchen.

“Starving!” I followed her.

“How about gnocchi napoletana?” Libby asked as she opened the fridge, placing a packet of gnocchi on the island table.

“Sounds great,” I smiled.

She smiled back, “So I’m sure Mya has filled you in about our family.” She started to boil the water.

“Little bits... what nationality are you guys? Are you just Australian or-?” I questioned, taking a seat on one of the island stools.

“We are actually British too, well the kids are, I’m not.” She laughed correcting herself, “I met Mya and Jess’ father, George, in Staffordshire when I was travelling. We moved here after we got married. Mya and George went back to England for a while, Manchester to be exact, because of work.” She smiled, continue to cook.

“Is that where he is now?” I began to question, seeing as Mya didn’t really mention her dad at all.

“Well-” Libby looked back at me.

“Mum! Is that you?” I heard a loud yell coming from the direction of the office, interrupting my question.

“Yea honey! Come out, dinner is nearly ready.” Libby requested.

I heard footsteps coming towards the kitchen followed by Mya appearing, wearing sweatpants and a baggy top, “What are we having?”

“Some pasta,” Libby half smiled, “You didn’t bother to introduce me to Harry here, I found him lost, looking at the paintings.”

“I didn’t know you were home,” She retorted, “Besides-” She took a seat next to me, resting her head on the palm of her hand, “You know enough about him from his application.”

“Mya.” She said sternly, turning her back on the pasta and folding her arms.

“What?” Mya stared back, sitting up straight.

“Don’t be so rude! Harry is a guest in this house whether you like it or not.” She told her, resulting in Mya rolling her eyes, “Now say sorry please.”

Mya reluctantly looked at me, “I’m sorry.”

“It’s honestly fine.” I awkwardly laughed.

“No, Harry you are welcome here and you should be treated as such.” Libby reaffirmed, finished making the pasta, “Dinner is ready.”
