Lie To Me

Yellow Daisies.

I woke up to yelling downstairs and quickly rushed to Luke’s side.
“Sarah?” I questioned.
“Is he here? Is Ashton here?” she panicked.
“No.” I replied.
“Where is he?”
“He just needs space.” Luke replied.
“I need him!” she snapped.
“I’m sure that’s how he saw it last night.” I scoffed.
“Riley.” Luke hushed.
“No, I deserve it.” Sarah sighed, tears welling in her eyes. “Just let him know I miss him.” she spoke, before walking out of the door.
“That was a little uncalled for.” Luke commented.
“Yeah, well.”
“Ash is at Cal’s right?”
“Should be. Should we give him warning?”
“I’ll give Cal a call.” Luke replied, stepping into the backyard.
I walked over to the kitchen and opened the fridge. “Geez.” I sighed, looking at the emptiness.
“How about we go out?” Luke startled me.
After catching my breath and laughing a bit I nodded. I went back upstairs to change. I grabbed my favorite jean shorts and Luke’s ‘You complete me’ shirt. I slipped into my favorite solid black converse and threw my hair into a messy bun.
“You know, you’re going to need to stop wearing my clothes better than me.” Luke complimented.
“What fun is that?” I asked as I intertwined our hands and pulled him out of the front door.
“Hungry?” he chuckled.
**
We pulled up to a mom and pop place Luke and I used to work at when we first entered high school.
“Riley? Luke?” Helen called.
“Helen!” we exclaimed, jumping up to give her a hug.
“You two are still together? That warms my heart.” Helen hadn’t aged much for an 80 year old woman in food service. “I remember all your after dance breakfasts for dinner escapades. Oh! And the time you two were arguing and completely destroyed the kitchen with the water fight you had.” she let out a cute laugh.
“We were very troublesome.” Luke smirked.
“He’s lying, we still are.” I smiled.
“You know, you two were my favorite employees of all time. I’m so proud of the people you’ve become. Promise me you two will cherish eachother as long as you can.”
“Promise.” We replied insync.
“Now let me get your favorite plates. On the house.”
Before we could protest Helen walked off.
“Why so ‘cherishy’” Luke asked.
“Frank passed away sometime two years ago. Completely unexpected.”
“Oh my-- you never told me.”
“Luke.” I scoffed.
“Right. The whole not talking, marrying another guy, thing.”
My eyes widened as I took my straw from the cup holding liquid in it to fling at Luke.
“Really you two? You have not changed one bit.” Helen smiled, putting the food down in front of us.

“Ry. Get off your phone! We have dishes to do!” Luke yelled, causing me to jump and almost drop my phone in the dish water.
“What’s your problem, Lukas?”
“You.” he scowled.
“Luke! What the fuck?”
“We all get it. You’re madly in love with Corey, but you still have a life outside of the phone.”
“Seriously Luke?”
“Seriously. Ever since homecoming you’ve been inseparable.” he glared.
“What does it matter to you? You didn’t even want to go to homecoming.”
“Whatever.” he deep sighed and went back to the dishes.
“No! Not whatever, Lukas. Tell me.”
“I was going to ask you to homecoming the night Corey asked you.”
“Wait do you like me?”
“Riley! Ugh!” he defended, “I just knew how much it meant to you, and stupid me, thought you were going to ask me so I had to beat you to it.”
“Then get over yourself Luke.” I spat, turning back to my phone.
“I’m not going to do all the work.” Luke replied, but I ignored him. “Riley.” he snapped.
The next thing I knew I heard the dish hose turning on and I was soaked.
“Luke!” I screamed. He burst into laughter. “Are you kidding me?” I whined, grabbing the other dish hose.
“Hey!” he yelled when I sprayed him.
“Ha!”
Luke sprayed me and we went back and forth until Frank and Helen popped in.
“My kitchen!” Frank exclaimed.
“They’re just being kids, darling.” Helen chuckled.
“You clean this up before you leave.” Frank scolded.
“Take your time.” Helen smiled, pulling Frank out of the kitchen.
“Look what you did! We’re going to be here all night!” I yelled.
“I have nothing better to do.”
“I do!” I retaliated.
“What? Corey?”
I sunk my head to my chest with his guess.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Ry? You’re going to sleep with him?”
“Maybe. What’s it to ya?” I could see the anger in Luke’s face.
“Just go.”
“What?”
“GO!” he yelled, I had never seen him so angry before.

*present day*

“Little did I know after that you and I wouldn’t talk until the break up.” I sighed.
“I was 16 and angry.”
“Now you’re 23 and angry.” I joked.
“Rude.” He replied while taking a bite of pancakes. “So, I sent for flowers to be delivered to Helen. They should be here any moment.”
“Luke! How nice. Did you get the yellow daisies Frank used to get her every Wednesday?”
“It was only fit since it’s Wednesday.”
I turned to the door where Helen awaited customers at the register.
“Helen?” a delivery man asked.
“That’s me.” she smiled sweetly.
“Special delivery from the Hemmings table.”
Helen gave us a smile and tears filled her eyes. “Thank you.” she spoke to him, taking the flowers. She went in the back and grabbed a vase, placing the flowers right up front with her.
As Luke and I got out of the booth Helen stopped us.
“Thank you both. I miss Frank dearly, and now it feels like he’s here with me.”
“Anything for you, Hel.” Luke embraced her tightly.
As we stepped out I turned to Luke, “Can we do that for her every week?”
“Absolutely.” He kissed my hand.
“Riley!” I heard a squeal.
“Brittany?”
“How are you?! Last night was crazy!” Her enthusiasm kills me.
“We’re good. You two?” I asked, purely out of courtesy.
“Great!” she exclaimed.
“We’re actually having a get together at the country club this weekend if you you like to join. You can bring the whole group.” Hunter chimed in.
“For?”
“My birthday!” Brittany beamed at Hunter.
“Original.” I nodded, glaring at Hunter. That was our thing, “We’ll definitely let you know.” I replied, walking away.
“We will?” Luke asked.
“Not a chance.” I spoke, getting in the car.
Luke smiled and jumped in as well.

Notes

Just a filler, but I promise it's going to get better. Also, I added Brittany to the character list!

I'm so glad and thankful ♡ hopefully I'll be seeing you on the prequel soon.

<3 urgh you are just the sweetest! Thank you for creating a beautiful story for me to enjoy - this and a few others were literally the only thing that kept me going while I spent 9 months studying in America so.. <3

@Kat21
I'll never argue with more of your writing for me to indulge in :D as long as there is some happiness for Luke and Riley eventually then I'm happy.. <3

@Prinny1321
I promise to give them 5 minutes of happiness.... BUT I think it'll be in a prequel so we can really fall in love with them.... AND THEN a sequel so I don't just leave you hanging on her being pregnant... Thoughts? :)

@Kat21
YOU ARE GOING TO BREAK ME INSIDE IF YOU DON'T LET THEM HAVE 5 MINS OF HAPPINESS OMG! :'( :')
