Beautiful Thing

I never gave much thought to how I would live my life, but only envisioned myself as being successful. "Life is a journey, enjoy the ride" someone once told me. Little did I know how much that would impact me. I was once this uptight woman that worked hard all her life; nobody got in my way. That was until someone convinced me otherwise.

A year ago, I graduated from university as a business major, concentrating in finance. Honestly, what happened that day was probably the biggest accomplishment I had in my life. Today, at 23 years of age, I work for my sister, Sarah, who is 5 years younger than me, funny right, who is an internationally known singer. Technically speaking I work for her management as her finance manager but, if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have this job. I am super proud of all the accomplishments that she has received so far and I only wish that she has much more although I'd like to say, we are the complete opposites. I am quiet and reserved, she is loud and bold.

My family and I currently live in Los Angeles, California, but originally from Canada; we only moved to the US for my sister's career. I live in an apartment of my own just for my own privacy. I could've stayed in Canada but I didn't want to live a country away from my family, so I migrated with them.

And that catches me up to today; May 3rd, 2017. I slave over my work in my home office; another perk, being able to work for your sister means that you can do all your work wherever you go.

I was currently in a video conference with Sarah's tour manager, Ian. "Okay, so for this tour we have to make this much to break even with the expenditures we will have, including travel, food, hotels, etcetera. Depending on how well the pre-sale goes for the tickets, I can get an idea of the profit we will make from this tour." I watched everyone on my screen taking notes and nodding. "Is there any questions or concerns about that statement?" I questioned.
"That seems good for me as of right now. Once we start getting the actual numbers in, we will have a better idea." Ian commented. I nodded my head in agreement.

"Exactly Ian, just remember to email me every receipt and statement as we go." I smiled.
"Perfect. Please keep in mind that we'd love for you to join us on the tour. Think about it some more. Chat with you later Tess." He stated then gave a little wave. The screen went black and returned to its original state.

I sigh and get out of my office chair and make my way to the kitchen to get some tea. As I pour up my tea I sigh and think about the thought of going on tour with my little sister for 6 months. I would absolutely love to travel the world, but part of me rather stay home. "Or rather you're just scared to get out of your comfort zone," my inner conscience told me.

I stir up my tea and make my way to the tv room and turned on a celebrity news channel just to see if they have to say anything about Sarah today.

"Good morning everyone! Here are some of your daily updates on your favorite celebs! First up we have former boy band member Harry Styles with his first self-titled, solo album releasing next week! Can you believe it? Seems like only yesterday we were watching him singing with the rest of the boys of One Direction on X-Factor! Rumor has it that he will be having his pre-launch party in a venue in Manchester. I wonder will we-" the lady was cut off by my loud sister running through the door.

"Tess! Tess! Where are you?" my sister yelled into the halls.

I huffed and rolled my eyes, "In the TV room Sarah!" I said annoyed. A few seconds later she peeked her head around the door and ran to the couch that I was sitting on.

"Tess! You'll never believe it!" She said bursting with excitement. I wonder what has her going now. She gets excited over the littlest things.

"What is it?" I questioned.

"I just got an invitation to Harry Styles' album pre-launch party in Manchester! I can bring a plus one too! Guess who's going with!" She said while practically dragging me off the couch.

"Wow that is awesome Sarah, but I'll have to pass," I say while turning my head back towards the TV.

She frowns at me, "Come on Tess! Relax for a while. Chill! It'll be fun, I promise! Plus... Mom said I couldn't go unless you were there. I mean come on, I am 18 years old now. Pretty please Tess! Put your work away for once and live a little." She was out of breath and practically on her knees begging me now.

I put down my tea and sigh, "Okay okay, I'll go. When do we-" I was cut off by squealing and a huge hug from Sarah.

"Oh my goodness yes! We are going to have so much fun! I'll introduce you to everyone so you don't have to be shy! Oh! you might finally find a boyfriend too!" She said while jumping around the room and winking at me at the last comment.

I roll my eyes, "You're talking like I've never had a boyfriend before Sarah."

She giggles at me, "Well Tessy, your last person of interest was two years ago and that didn't end well."

I groan at the thought. Long story short the guy that I was interested in my accounting class was only into me to get notes off of me. As soon as the semester ended I didn't hear or see him ever again. Tragic, I know.

"Oh my goodness Tess, that means we have to go outfit shopping! I'll find some time in my schedule and text you! We'll be leaving for Manchester the day before the party so you better be ready! Love you!" She hugs me and leaves the room.

When I hear the door slam I grab one of the couch pillows and yell in it. Gosh, what am I going to do? I huff and slowly drift off to sleep with that thought.
