Why Don't We Go There?

Chapter One

" Didn't I tell you not to come back here?"

I'd hardly needed to look up from my book to know exactly who was standing in front me, his presence was unforgettable, larger than life almost. It wasn't a secret that he entered the room ego first.

I reach for my cup of tea, eyes fixated on a word I waited for the next sorry excuse to come spewing out of his mouth.

"I jus' can't stay away, love?" he drawls, leaning his elbows on the library's front desk.

The grin on his face is enough to make any girl melt into a puddle of goo but it's been the main source of my angst for so long I'm immune to his infectious charms.

"For the last and final time," I roll my eyes slamming my book shut. "I'm not going out with you, Styles. Get that through your thick skull."

This was what a typical Friday night was like for me, being surrounded by dusty books and last minute study groups and being harassed by perhaps the most annoying creature known to man.

Harry Styles was the guy of every girls' dream. He was good-looking and likable but also had an alluring enigma surrounding his exterior, attracting almost everyone he encountered. Both boys and girls longed to entertain his company. There was no doubt he was made of rare stardust and spice with just enough puppy dog tales for boyish good measure. But if you weren't careful, those sparkling green eyes, pink pout and dimpled grin would send you into a stupor you could never recover from.

Like every handsome boy I've ever encountered Harry Styles had some sort of hamartia.

His fatal flaw was his cocky, brash attitude that flattered other members of my sex but only ever annoyed me. He was handsome and charming and was properly educated on how to use it to his advantage.

Legends of his tryst danced through the quad and echoed through the cold, filthy stalls of the loos, but never directly by from his mouth. Harry was absolutely confident that he could have a girl's heart and virginity on a silver platter. For the past few semesters he'd been dying to get me out for a date. I could only assume I was his next target as he continued to be persistent in his pursuit. I was highly suspicious of his advances. There were hundreds of girls on campus and I was probably the most stubborn of them all. I wouldn't fall so easily into his trap.

"When's your shift over? We could do somethin' tonight. I'm not askin' you to go to some fancy pasta dinner with me," he continues as if he hadn't heard my last sentence.

I glance over at a stack of books that need to be reshelved.

"You heard what I said, Styles. Don't talk to me unless you're looking to check out a book,"
Harry narrows his jade eyes at me, the amused smirk never leaving his face.

" I just don't understand how you do it. Being cooped in this old stuffy library every Friday night. Don't you ever get out and have some fun?" He questioned adjusting the bandana that held his thick curls in place.

I rolled my eyes.

"My fun is here, sorting books into alphabetic order and avoiding you," I replied.

"See ? Thats your problem right there. You're too uptight. I mean, look at you. Reading glasses, hair pulled back into a severe bun and shit. Loosen up a little, have a drink, get laid,"

I can feel the eyes of Mrs. Doyle, the head librarian, burning through the back of my skull from her desk tucked away in the corner. I wasn't the only one who grew tiered of Harry Styles' shenanigans.

"Look, you need to leave"I growled through clenched teeth. "and don't come back unless you're going to check out a book or study. I mean it, Styles."

His dimpled grin only returns.

"You're hella sexy when you get angry, I like it. I'll meet you outside when your shift is over, Liv,"
He gives me a wink before sauntering out of the double doors, the smell of his cologne trailing behind him. I sigh heavily before returning back to my work.

How will I ever get rid of him?
******
I shimmy into my jacket , the chill of night tickling my skin as I exit the large, heavy doors of the university library. It was nearly ten-thirty and most activity was beginning to die down on campus. Some students some lingered around with friends or headed back to their dorms while others staggered across the quad, their motor skills impaired by alcohol.

What a way to kick off the weekend.

I was thankful that my shift had ended and I couldn't wait to get back to my dorm to take a nice hot shower and curl up in bed. I had the whole weekend ahead of me and planned out just perfectly. I'd do some laundry and tidy up around my dorms tomorrow morning and then go the the little coffee shop off campus to study for the major chemistry exam I had coming up on Tuesday. Maybe I'd even call my mum and make arrangements to stay for Sunday roast.

Jogging down the library steps I head down the path that leads to my dorms. There are very few lights to lead the way so I walk at a generous pace, hoping to make it back to my dorm unharmed. I can nearly see the dormitories when a tall figure jumps out at me from behind the bushes that line the path. I shout obscenities into the darkness, a familiar obnoxious laugh filling my ears.

"Beautiful, smart and funny," Harry drawls, leaning against the light post. "you're a real catch, Liv."

I placed a hand over my heart to steady my breathing.

"Do that again and no team of medical professionals will ever be able to prove that you were once a male." I hissed, pushing my glasses up on my nose.

For once the smirk on his face disappears.

"Christ, no need to be violent," he sighs, shoving his hands in his pockets.

I groaned.

"Stop following me around, Styles! What do you want from me?"

"Remember, I told you I'd be waiting until your shift ended." he replied, swiping his tongue against his bottom lip."So where do you wanna go?"

"I want to go back to my dorm and sleep and I want you to go and bother someone else," I sigh exasperatedly.

Harry grins.

"That's no fun. Is that another one of your Friday night rituals?" he questioned.

"Yes. Now, if you'll excuse me."

I brush past him to continue my commute to the dorms but he manages to fall right back into step next to me.

"Liv, what's your idea of fun?"

I roll my eyes.

"I've got pepper spray and a rape whistle in my handbag," I threaten.

"This is a serious question, Liv. What's your idea of fun?" he persisted.

I stopped in my tracks and sighed.

" I don't know," I shrug "a good book and a cup of tea. Now would you please leave me alone?"

Harry folds his arms across his chest, a small dimpled grin forming on his handsome face.

"You know what? I don't even think you know how to have fun,"

The statement lingers in the night air. This would probably be the one and only time in his life that Harry Styles would ever be right and I hated to admit it.

I was a homebody and had always been, an eighty-year old nan trapped in the body of a nineteen-year old girl. I'd never made the time to cut lose and fool around like most people my age do. I'd always been too dignified, too responsible.

"I'm right," he chuckles. "I'm fucking right and you know it,"

I can't think of a witty quip that will shut him up so I have to stand there in defeat.

"So maybe you're right. Maybe I don't know how to have fun. So what!" I huff folding my arms across my chest.

Harry smirks like the smug bastard he is, clearly basking in the satisfaction of being correct.

" There's a wild side to you, Liv, and I'm gonna unleash it."

The statement hangs in the air and I suddenly find myself feeling the most uncomfortable with him than I ever have before. What exactly did that mean?

"Listen here, Styles," I seethe. " if you think you can turn me out like all the other girls around here, you've got the wrong girl,"

I turn on my heel to walk away when he suddenly catches hold of my arm.

"No, no, no. I just want to teach you to have pure unadulterated fun," he insist, locking eyes with me.

My breath suddenly hitches in my throat.

"You really think you could teach me to have fun?"

"Of course I can." Harry replied with a dimpled grin.

"But under two conditions."

I could feel my heart beat increasing and I'm suddenly starting to rethink this whole thing.

"Well, what are these conditions, Styles?"

He smiles.

"You have to let your hair down and you won't be needing those glasses."

I rolled my eyes before sliding the glasses off of my face, removing my hair tie shortly after.

Running my fingers through my hair I turn to Harry.

"Happy?"

He reaches out, tucking a few lose strands of hair behind my ears.

"Lovely." he mumbles, staring down at me with those green eyes.

There was a lull of silence between us before Harry spoke.

" We'll what are you waiting for? The night's still young and so are we! There's fun to be done!" he exclaimed before grabbing my hand and pulling me in whatever direction he was headed.

What on earth have I gotten myself into?
*****
"There is absolutely no way I'm going in there."

I shook my head vigorously whilst staring at the massive, crowded dormitory, my veins pumping with anxiety.

After confessing to Harry that I'd never been to a party before, he insisted on taking me to one. Just to my luck, a few of the lads in Harry's dorm hall were throwing a party tonight.

Loud music with a strong bass could be hears from outside and the lawn was already littered with empty red solo cups and a drunken, unconscious body or two. Just the sight of this made me have a mini panic attack. This was too much for my poor little introverted soul to handle.

A small smile sweeps over Harry's lips as he glances over at me. Why does he smile so much? This is totally not a smiling situation!

"C'mon , Liv, it's a classic first step to havin' fun at Uni. You have to go out and meet new people and a party is just the right way to do it," he replied.

I groaned.

"Are there not any more sober settings I can have fun in?"

Harry sighed.

" Quit, your whinin', it's honestly not as bad as it looks. At least it's not as bad as fresher week. You'll be fine, Liv I promise. You've got me here. I won't let anything happen to you," he declares wrapping an arm around me.

I shot him an incredulous stare.

"I'm still not quite sure if I trust you, Styles." I spoke.

He grins.

"I always keep my word. Just stay close, don't wander off, don't drink anything that's been left unattended and don't fuck anybody without protection," he instructed.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks, Mum," I quip.

"So, you ready?" Harry asks, his eyebrows raising.

I nod, and taking a deep breath as Harry offers me his arm to take. I take a moment to mentally prepare myself before grabbing a hold, hopefully not too tight.

The music seemed to vibrate through my whole body as Harry and I entered the party.
It was turned up to an unhealthy volume, loud enough to burst my ear drums if I stayed too long. My eyes scanned the house taking in as much of my surroundings as possible in the dimly lit scene.

Nearly everyone in attendance was holding a red plastic cup and there was no question as its contents. The living room was crowed with boys and girls dancing drunkenly against one another. A few couples were tucked away in dark corners violently snogging each other while others made no attempt to hide their affection. The air smelled faintly of smoke and booze and glitter and crushed littered the floors. This place was an absolute pig sty, swimming with bodily fluids and unimaginable germs.

I was still clutching onto Harry's arm for dear life once we made it to the kitchen which thankfully was a little less loud but more crowded than others parts of the house.

"Still hanging in there, yeah?" Harry asks, staring down at me.

I sighed, hoping to appear relaxed despite the anxiety I was feeling.

"Yeah," I chewed at my bottom lip. "is this the party scene everyone's mad about? Seems quite boring to me."

I shrug trying to hide the panic in my voice.

Harry chuckles.

"They get more fun once you've had a few drinks."

I nod slowly absorbing my surroundings once again.

"Oiy! Hazza!! How's it going, mate?" A loud Irish voice boomed from across the kitchen.

I turned my head in the direction of the voice as a slightly, blond boy approached Harry and I.

"Nialler!" Harry shireks, equally as excited to see the boy before us.

The lads did some weird, intricate hand shake before grinning widely at each other.

Boys.

"I didn't think you were coming." The blond boy spoke before taking a sip from his cup.

Harry shrugged his shoulders.

"I wasn't but there was a change of plans."

The blond boy's blue eyes fall on me and he grins widely.

"Who's the bird, mate?" he questions, wiggling his eyebrows.

I look over hat Harry who's blushed for the first time since I've known him.

Who knew bad boys had a soft spot.

The boys grin only grew.

"Is this the one you've been telling me about? Liv the sexy library lady?" he questioned wiggling his eyebrows suggestively for the second time.

I felt a blush creeping on my own cheeks and a quickly let go of Harry's plaid, flannel clad arm.
I look up at him and scoff.

"Liv the sexy library lady? Really, Styles?"

"Harry's into that whole sexy librarian fantasy." The blond boy gives me a nudge with his elbow. The closer he was the more I could smell the booze on him.

I'd never seen Harry Styles so red.

"I don't think you two know each other. Niall this is Liv. Liv meet Niall." Harry speaks, avoiding the previous topic.

"Pleased to meet you, Niall." I spoke extending my hand for him to shake.

Niall stared at my hand and laughed.

"You're Harry's bird! You're practically family. Bring it in!!" he commanded opening his arms for a hug.

Well, this is awkward. I'm not used to hugging people upon the first meeting. Reluctantly, I accepted Niall's embrace. He was sweaty and drunk.

"I'm not his bird, we are in no form or fashion dating." I corrected Niall once we pulled away.
I glanced over at Harry who frowned a bit at my words.

Niall smirked.

"Well if you're not his bird what are you doing here with campus' most wanted?" he questioned.

"Liv" here is a little challenged in the department of fun so I decided to take her here to get more acquainted with the party life." Harry announced draping a long arm over my shoulder.

"She's scared out of her mind." he added quickly.

" Am not!" I scoffed.

"Are too!!" he replied childishly with that dimpled grin of his.

I forcefully nudged him in the ribs to which Harry replied the with protest of pain.

Niall watched us with an amused expression.

"Well, you're at the right place. Here, drink this. It'll help you relax ." Niall spoke extending the cup he'd been holding bout to me.

Did he have no qualms about the fact that he was willingly sharing germs with a perfect stranger?

I stared down at the brown liquid.

"What is this?" I questioned.

Niall laughed.

"Good old ale. Go on drink up." he commanded.

I stared at the cup skeptical of the drink and my new found acquaintance.

I'd never really had alcohol before. My mum let me sip wine at she and Dad's anniversary celebration but that was just about it. I'd never been drunk a day in my life.

"What are you waiting on, Liv. Have some. As a matter of fact, get me one too, Niall." Harry spoke.

I waited until Niall came back with Harry's own cup before deciding to give into peer pressure. Once Harry had his cup I put the rim of mine against my lips.

"Wait Liv, don't drink yet. Let's make a toast " he declared.

I rolled my eyes at how cheesy and predictable it was but obliged anyway. I held my cup in the air as Harry did the same.

"Cheers." he announced with a broad grin, his dimples showing.

"Cheers to what? When you toast to have to make it to something." I sassed.
Harry smiled.

"Cheers to a night we'll both never forget."

Notes

Hello!

I'm back with something that's not Harry and Presley related! I'm proud of myself! Welcome everyone to the first chapter of "Why Don't We Go There?" . This is probably the very, very first 1D fanfic I ever tried my hand at. Exactly today, two years ago, 2015, I published this story on 1dff.com. Shortly after getting through a few chapters I published LPIL and got really into that so I completely neglected this story. The more I got into LPIL the more I realized how much this story sucked but since it is the very first story I published in this fandom, I decided to go back and try my hand at it again so here is the re-write. I apologize if it's a bit cheesy or carrot-ty. This fic is a mini one so it will probably only be about 5-10 chapters long and while it centers around Olivia and Harry all of the boys, including Zayn will be included as well.

I know the chapter is a little shorter than what I usually do but I had to cut it off at a certain point so that too much wouldn't be revealed. Here's a few questions to get you guys talking.

  • What do you think about Harry? Is he really as smug and promiscuous as Liv/ everyone thinks? Does he have other motives for this night of fun?
  • What about Olivia? Will she ever soften up to Harry?
Before I forget there's a playlist that goes with this mini-fic! You can listen here:WDWGT

I love to hear what you all think! Thanks so much for reading and feel free to leave a little review!!
