The Night I Met Harry

Surprise.

I melted between reality and unconsciousness. My eyes had yet to reveal again the day to me as I debated getting up.

Sarah:
"Winter."

End of debate. Her fingers went smooth in a glide back and forth against the skin of my arm. It was honestly therapeutic, more likely to further cause me more fatigue then lose it as she'd intended.

Sarah:
"If you continue you'll be up all night. "

My eyes opened reluctantly to her in my vision.

Sarah:
"Besides, you're mother says you have to eat dinner now."

I wasn't hungry but I also realized there was no right way of telling them that. ‎

Winter:
"Okay, okay."

Sarah:
"You're phone started going off a lot when you fell asleep so...I just turned it off so you could rest. I hope you don't mind that."

I rubbed my eyes as I sat up to decode her words before speaking.

Winter:
"It's fine."

My fingers reached to turn it back on as I allowed my drowsiness to drift away. I looked upward to see my mom was now stood there in the door frame in her lounge attire.

Linda:
"Make sure you call him back. He just wants to know how you're doing."

Words could not describe how annoying that was. If I didn't answer the phone there was usually a reason, whatever that reason was. And sometimes I just rather not hear her commentary. On one hand I was happy he got along with my mom but on the other....

Winter:
"I got it. Thanks."

I stood placing the phone back on the table and following Sarah out of the room. ‎I was always a quite grumpy when I woke up from naps so I assumed that didn't help.‎

Linda:
"Something wrong?"

She followed behind as I positioned myself at the table to eat again. ‎

Winter:
"Why would something be wrong?"

Linda:
"Well you haven't called."

Winter:
"I just woke up."

I felt the attitude coming along but desperately tried to force it back and away. ‎I played with the fork around the plate in a tiring manner as it did so. ‎

Linda:
"‎You know he'll worry."

I'd given her a suggestive look there for awhile until‎ I'd grown irritable under her stare.

Winter:
"You know...‎I'm not hungry."‎

--

‎Harry:
"Don't ever do that again."

I was being given a stern talking to at this point despite my being excited to see him.

Harry:
"Ever, you hear me?"

It wasn't quite midnight yet so technically he wasn't arguing with me on my birthday. I was being dragged to the car as he continued to display to me his disapproval. It was in reference to me dismissing his calls before but he didn't understand that in order for me not to miss him I had to cling to other things.

Winter:
"I told you. I was with Sarah. She was keeping me company."

He sighed deeply closing his eyes to pause for a second. Still, even with the extreme expressions of anger, he was so beautiful to me...and I wouldn't argue back.

Harry:
"Of all people? I thought that was what mom was for."

Though he hadn't seemed to realize it, he had just called her mom. I wanted to smile and show my approval of how sweet that was but he may not have taken that well at the moment.

Winter:
"I'm sorry."

He let go to open my door and the mumbles continued. I was in the seatbelt and him beside me when I said it again.

Winter:
"I'm sorry, Harry."

My hands moves to acquaint with his before he could push to start the car. He remained mute for a moment before turning to look over at me. I was lucky for the perfect view surrounded by his eyelashes.

Winter:
" I missed you. Don't think that I didn't. I did Harry, and I was trying not to. That's all."

He looked away again as if soaking that in. His attention was ahead when I felt his fingers settle in the spaces of mine and rub gently across my knuckles.

I went for his chin to encourage his lips closer, and was stricken with butterflies when he allowed me that gesture. I did my best to lean across the arm rest and began the way we should have when I first saw him.

I received his apology through it, his warm lips giving me serenity as I sat there in the chair. His dark eyelashes could be felt against my cheeks as they fell shut into it. With the intensity of his hair I was surprised they weren't curly as well. The moment was long and slow as if we'd just met, and the pull back came only when the curiosity had again struck me.

Winter:
"Now..."

I said rubbing my thumb to his face in persuasion.

Winter:
" Where are we going this late?"

The roar of the engine was his answer, his dimples greeting me quietly and quite teasingly.

Winter:
"Harry, come on."

Harry:
"You'll see when we get there. And don't worry I won't cover your eyes or anything."

Well that was great to hear and everything, but it still hadn't given me much of a hint. I watched as trees and houses passed and flew into the distance.

Harry:
"Don't bite your nails."

Winter:
"Yea well...you're making me nervous."

He pulled them from my mouth and proceeded in holding them against his.

Harry:
"Don't."

So bossy tonight.

Harry:
"...So...what did you two do?"

Winter:
"Uh, nothing. Just talked...and watched movies. Things like that."

He hummed to that.

Harry:
"She was hitting on you wasn't she?"

I huffed as my eyes focused ahead to where the headlights made clear the path ahead of us.

Winter:
"Listen. You have got to stop saying that.

Harry:
"I knew it."

He pulled up after awhile of us being in the car. There was a house that stood alone from the rest. Though it was dark, I could tell it was quite pretty and it helped that the light's gleamed from the inside.

Winter:
"Now can you tell me where we are?"

It was hard to keep up with the direction we'd come so honestly we could be anywhere. He smiled before heading out and around to open the door.

Harry:
"Just come on."
--
I stepped onto the front as I continued to admire. Maybe it was me but still I hadn't caught on. The first thing I'd noticed was how similar it appeared to something I'd been playing around with in my sketchbook. It was pushed back as I felt myself gasp, taking in the view along with a few deep breathes. The air seemed generous tonight and it was perfect one for being with him.

Winter:
"Harry?"

I continued my examination when he'd placed keys in my hands from behind. I studied them as I called his name again in question and waited for an explanation. The uncertainties had definitely been weighing me down at this point.

Harry:
"Go on."

He said with a smile, leaning against the gorgeous stone that held the place together. It was definitely bigger than our house and the cars in the driveway hadn't gone unnoticed on the way up.

Winter:
"Tell me something, please."

I was surprised my hands held no shake at all, but the apprehension still hovered.

I opened the doors slowly after studying the keys and unlocking. I looked back at him for security before opening and stepping in.

A gasp escaped once more as I glanced for a second. And the point of this all had began to sink in. I covered my face like a baby when the tears began. It was beautiful but the facts of how this was happening had been becoming too overwhelming. I sobbed like a child as I stood there, grateful my hair helped in concealing me.

Winter:
"You bought me a house?"

It was like I'd been speaking a different language now. And I'd picked the wrong day to wear mascara.

Harry:
"I had it built for you."

Now I definitely couldn't control them. Salty tears trickled down my cheeks seemingly all at once. I felt myself ruining his shirt once I realized his arms had been solid around me.

Harry:
"It's baby proofed and everything. I just figured if we're having kids we'll need more space. "

I noticed the plural of the word and couldn't seem to push them back now.

Harry:
"Babe, don't cry. Please. It's your birthday."

Winter:
"...You're so sneaky."

He rubbed my head as the sobs continued.

Harry:
"Thank you. "

I felt my smile press against his shirt suddenly.
He pulled me back to wipe them away, holding my face so I wouldn't fall apart there. It was overwhelming but still I focused on him from the rest of the place to avoid the tears.

Harry:
"I'm going to show you the rest, okay?"

He said as if comforting a child. Yep that's what this was.

Winter:
"Okay."

Harry:
"And you're not going to cry, okay?"

Winter:
"Okay."

At least I had the hormones to blame.
He took my hand as he led me what seemed to be the kitchen. Again, it was seemingly familiar.

Harry:
"Have I earned myself a second child yet?"

Wow at the fact that I wasn't yet finished with the first. He removed my jacket as I awed over everything my eyesight came into contact with.

Winter:
"Definitely yes...You're insane, but yes. "
Harry:
"Worked though..."
He said catching my hand to lead once more.
Harry:
"Happy Birthday, Winter."
