The Night I Met Harry

In the Dark. (Not the end)

The sheets were soft underneath me. I felt gently against them under my fingers before prying my eyes open reluctantly. It was bright and seemed to hurt to do so, so I'd closed them quickly before trying again.

Harry:
"Baby."

He didn't know the effect that sound had on me as I lie here. My hair was pushed from my face and another's was held to mine. I smelled his masculinity. A notch up from mild from his shower regimen.

I tried to lift my lids midway this time with his encouragement.

Harry:
"Winter."

They were opened completely to see him. Though he was blurry he was still beautiful. It cleared up a bit after a few more blinks and I'd studied where I was.

Harry:
"She's awake."

We were back at the beach house. In the room further down the hall we'd never slept in. Gorgeous though, with the curtains pulled to show off the decor. With the light I was sure I couldn't have been asleep that long.

Winter:
"What happened?"

Someone else was in the room. When the footsteps tapped closer I forced myself to focus.

Dr.Horan:
"You passed out."

All blue eyes and blonde hair. He pressed the front side of his hand to my forehead while Harry paced in the background.

Dr.Horan:
"I told you to eat something everyday, if only a little."

Winter:
"It wouldn't stay down anyways."

Dr.Horan:
"Then you have my number. That wasn't safe, Winter. It could have been worse."

Winter:
"...Sorry."

He chuckled softly. Eyelids closing to rub his forehead as if mentally adjusting to the situation.

Dr.Horan:
"Save that for Harry. You gave him a heart attack."

Something ran from my hand through a cord up into a tall stand beside me. It was stuck in my skin, tugging lightly as I moved my hands that now shook slightly. He examined it, holding them in his after briefly checking my pulse with the stethoscope.

Dr. Horan:
"You're stressed. I told you-"

Winter:
"I'm fine."

I didn't want him saying that in front of Harry. He was already quite picky about the eating thing.

Dr.Horan:
"No. You aren't. I really need you to avoid the stress, Winter. Or it'll effect other things... And you didn't take your inhaler with you."

He was more like a dad then a doctor when it came to me. I wondered how Harry had even got him to come here.

Winter:
"I didn't take anything. We were just out walki- Wait. I didn't fall did I? Is she okay?"

I felt panicked as he took my hand again. My mind traveled around the questions and back before he could answer. I felt the thud of my heart under my chest. His grip grew tighter to relieve me. I wondered if this gesture bothered Harry.

Dr.Horan:
"Harry caught you. And relax, she's fine. But you need to feed her so sit up."

I did so immediately wanting nothing but to fix the mess I'd started. To clean what I'd tarnished. I felt the cloud again as I scooted upward, leaning my back against the headboard to better see Harry. I closed my eyes again to suppress it.

Dr.Horan:
"Not so quickly...Harry made you what you'd asked for. I guess I'll get it while you talk, okay?"

I nodded while he'd exited. There was no doubt in my mind that Harry had paid him for the trip.
The doctor had left the room and I'd started immediately.

Winter:
"I'm sorry about the Mason thing Harry. We're just friends, I promise. He gets that."

Harry:
"No."

He shook his head back and forth as his pacing slowed.

Harry:
"We'll discuss that later, okay? This is about you right now. You had me really worried."

He'd kissed my forehead gently. His nose rubbed mine as he touched my bare stomach from underneath my shirt. His love for me was obvious. I had to stop doing things that wasn't good for me...because it wasn't good for him.

Harry:
"Jesus. Don't scare me like that again. You're eating when I eat from now on, you understand?"

I nodded as he pecked my lips sensitively as if afraid I'd slip away again.

Winter:
"I'm okay, Harry."

Harry:
"I'll be the judge from now on."

--

It was Saturday. I stepped against the marveled tile. Bare legs and feet as Harry cooked again quietly in the kitchen. My eyes roamed the floor were my steps were took. The nail polish was still bright and vibrant on my toes, satisfying my artsy side with the contrast pattern of the floor.

Harry:
“You should get ready.”

His eyes looked up from his current task. Grazing me over as if looking through me. His hands still moved while awaiting my response. I stood awkwardly to the spot while I pondered the subject of his statement. He bit at his bottom lip while twisting the led of I tightly closed jar. I heard the pop release to my ear a short time later.

Winter:
“Where are we going?”

I continued my game of skipping from one tile to the next, filling my own amusement. I’d been being good on the days that passed since seeing Dr. Horan. Three meals a day, and to my surprise I’d easily eaten most of each plate.

Harry:
“No just you…You have the art thing in a few.”

We hadn’t spoken of it since we last did. Not even a little. The fact that he’d been urging me to ready myself came as a packaged surprise. He’d given me the order so casually as if the occurrences before were now somehow nonexistent. I twisted at my hair as I developed a direction to trot the conversation.

Winter:
“I don’t have to go. It’s fine.”

Harry:
“But I know that you want to, so go.”

Winter:
“You don’t have to-“

Harry:
“Don’t worry about me. I should be finished by the time you are. You can eat before, now go.”

I didn’t reply. My feet began to carry me away toward the room where I’d quietly begun to do as he’d asked.

--

I was quite confused still as I put the car in park, sure he hated everything about what I’d been doing yet he’d been pushing me toward it. Creating distance and uncertainty between us in the process. I let the thought blow away as I met the air on the way from the car.

It was a number of people scattered through the hall. I’d been immediately experiencing all the feelings that led to an orgasm as I closed the gap between me and the closest art piece. It was beautiful. I studied quietly and intimately as I gazed upon the wall. It was abstract. Splattered colors held my interest for a longevity of time as I stood glued in place. The room was quiet as I admired, others walking by slowing doing the same before moving on to another.

Mason:
“Didn’t think you’d come.”

I turned quickly with his sudden interruption. He was dressed to a different par this time. In mostly black with his hands tucked into his pockets as he appeared. His eyes weren’t on me but the piece I’d been examining. I looked around either side of him in a new found curiosity. He was alone.

Winter:
“Hey. I thought you were coming with friends.”

It had conjured a smile.

Mason:
“I uh, actually said that because your boyfriend didn’t seem too happy to see me. I figured if I said it’d just be me, it would have been taken in a different way you know.”

I listened as we watched the work together. I wish he hadn’t approached at all that day but I was grateful for that editorial favor.

Winter:
“Fiance”

Mason:
“Pardon?”

Winter:
“..You called him my boyfriend. He’s my Fiancé.”

He turned toward me causing me to do the same. I wasn’t yet use to eye contact with him, but I held to willingly. His dropped shortly to my hand, taking it to examine the ring.

Mason:
“…Yea…that definitely wasn’t there before.”

He said it with a smile. It seemed rather genuine.

Mason:
“That’s beautiful, congratulations.”

Winter:
“…Thanks…”

I muttered quietly in hopes he wouldn’t question it further. It was quiet between us for a while as after thoughts lingered in the air.

Mason:
“Let’s move further down.”

--

I’d knew him a lot better as we left. Time had seemed to pass slowly, but in a good way. He’d convinced me to go with him to the pub, walking distance from our previous destination, to draw. I sat in the booth chair across from him as conversation continued. He’d ordered a beer for himself and I’d politely declined with a water. He’d watched me for awhile from across the table before I decided to comment.

Winter:
“What?”

He’d giggled as I traveled back to my rude ways present with our first meet.

Mason:
“Your hair is different today. I’m just trying to figure out how I’d draw it.”

Today is wasn’t straight, but dark and wavy in it’s natural state. He’d put the sketchbook he’d held all night in the middle of the table, pushing the wooden graphite between my fingers.

Mason:
“…Draw me.”

Winter:
“What? No.”

I smiled with declination.

Mason:
“I drew you the night at the restaurant.”

Winter:
“Yea, but I didn’t ask you to.”

He was honestly good company, and I prayed it’d been for all the right reasons on his part. I thought about that for a while before moving the tip toward the paper.

Mason:
“And… you have one minute.”

I smiled to myself with the challenge. I’d have everything I needed down in thirty seconds. I looked from him to the paper a few times while I crafted the lines, shading where it applied. I took deep breathes as I adjusted to the air of the dimly lit pub. Guys, who I assumed were drunk, became louder with the continuous consumption of boos across the room. I’d finished a long time ago but I’d taken the extra time to conclude.

Mason:
“Time.”

I’d stopped suddenly and turned it around to him, placing the pencil against the table. His facial expression warmed me.

Mason:
“Holy shit.”

He covered his lips partially as if it’d escaped by an accident. I twirled my fingers in my lap under the table as I sat awkwardly.

Mason:
“Teach me.”

It was always weird showing anything I’ve done to another person. But I had yet to feel that with him. I knew it was because we’d had it in common.

Winter:
“Teach you what? You’re great.”

He laughed gently looking up then down again.

Mason:
“Not this great… and you barely looked up.”

I tucked my hair behind my ears, sipping the water they’d just brought over to me in a giant glass obviously for beer consumption. My phone lit with an accidental touch when I’d saw the time. Dam it.

Winter:
“Mason, I have to go okay. It’s late.”

I’d grabbed everything and been about to remove myself when he’d spoken quickly.

Mason:
“Wait. Sign this…please.”

I shook my head with humor. I’d done so hastily, leaving my number beneath it.

Winter:
“Thanks, this was fun.”

--

The house was dark. I undressed in it when I’d reached the room. He was laid quietly in the bed but I knew he was awake. I hugged into him immediately but I noticed the time it’d taken him to embrace me back. I was in my bra and underwear now. His bare chest met the side of the face and I’d listened to his heartbeat with the rise and fall of it.

Winter:
“Sorry about the time, babe.”

It was mute for awhile but I’d given him time to answer.

Harry:
“…it’s okay.”

I knew he was just saying that and before I’d come he’d likely had a hard time falling asleep. I didn’t let the silence consume us.

I kissed the area on the side of his chest where my face had been. Before settling back into him.

Winter:
"Are you made with me? ... Be honest."

He closed the gap between us wrapping his arms around my body fully. I'd enjoyed the intimacy of it.

Harry:
"I'm working on it."

He answered honestly. It displayed growth at the fact he'd just admitted that to me. Though I could tell it was still hard for him to sit with. We lay in the dark against one another my hand finding it's place in his. There was nothing more fulfilling then having these moments with him. ‎

Harry:
"I'm not ready to talk about it, okay. But we will...I just don't want to stress you now."

Winter:
"So we'll discuss something else."‎

We had both obviously been very much awake so it was no need to try and fill that with silence.

Harry:
"I've been meaning to ask... where do you want us to be when the baby's born? Do you want to stay where we are, or get a bigger place?"

I'd never really given that much thought because wherever Harry was was home enough for me. And his place was already pretty big. I wondered if that was a hint to more kids. ‎

Winter:
"Not sure."

He'd turned me around, pulling the covers further up, so we were in a spooning position. I stare at the darkness that hovered around us with the hour. ‎

Winter:
"Can I think about it?"‎

Harry:
"Of course."

He always buried his face in my hair. Something I'd long since grown accustomed to.

Harry:
"Your birthday's almost here. Are you excited?"

I don't even think I'd noticed with the number of things that were going on. And I had another week until life resumed back home.

Winter:
"Sure."

I laughed softly at my own lie. ‎

Harry:
"Tell me what you want."
Winter:
"...Nothing Harry. You've already given me enough."

Harry:
"I'm kind of supposed to."

Winter:
"‎Well nothing comes to mind."

He laughed into his next statement., holding me tighter.

Harry:
"‎You know I'm not going to let this go."

I sighed briefly with the thought.

Winter:
"Baby stuff. We can shop for ‎baby things together on my birthday."

Harry:
"We can do that too. But you have to want something for yourself Winter... Anything, I don't mind the price."

His fingertips brushed gently against my stomach causing chills to assembly from within as I lie against him. I placed my hand atop his as he continued. It made me feel loved...He always did.

Winter:
"Sex, Harry. Loads and loads of sex."

He'd always found my take on these particular things quite funny. The humor escaped before he'd given me time to finish the statement. I honestly had know idea what I wanted for that day. Maybe I'd know tomorrow. But that was something I'd been sure of for the moment. He lifted slightly to allow himself air from constant act of hysteria. I couldn't see the dimples now in the dark but I knew they were there. Present and vibrant. His smile was gorgeous to me. I'd resisted the urge to turn on the lights just to see them. ‎

Winter:
"Is that going to be a problem?"‎

Harry:
"Whatever you want, sweetheart."‎
