The Night I Met Harry

Baby names.

‎The sand was warm and grainy under my toes. I looked out over the large body of water as it continued it's momentum toward shore. I felt his eyes on me under the warm weather. I wore next to nothing in a pair of small shorts slightly ripped, my bikini top visible across my chest. His fingers fit between the spaces of mine as I pondered our reason for being here. It was beautiful with just us here. I assumed because he was likely up to something I had yet to figure out.

Harry:
"I'm not going to drink anymore."

His tone was apologetic now. He hadn't exactly told me he was drinking again after our last talk but it wasn't hard to guess. I stopped my commentary on the subject because I didn't feel it was my place anymore....and that was never good.

Winter:
"Is it still the baby or is it me this time?"

My eyes still roamed the surface of the water as the wind blew gently against my skin. I hadn't felt weather like this in a long time now. I waited for an answer but I didn't receive one. ‎I thought we were long pass this thing where it was too much to communicate. I still didn't know why he'd been acting so off but I was beginning to guess. Maybe he wasn't as happy with me as he used to be. I felt down, not being able to say the same because I was pretty mad for him.

Winter:
"You don't have to answer... I think I'm beginning to know."

Harry:
"No. It's not that."

His tone was so soft and pleading so I knew this wasn't an argument.

Winter:
"Then what is it Harry?"

Harry:
"You'll know soon...just give me time..."

I faced him for the first time, ‎watching as the wind blew his curls lightly. I didn't understand what that even meant but I wouldn't press it. I was always in this position these days. I stared back with uncertainty.

Harry
"Just trust me okay..."

I already did...I looked down and away from him. The sand in a crowd around my bare feet. They were painted candy apple red from the old lady in the spa's advice. He quickly sighed as if renewing the conversation and beginning to swing my hand in his playfully.

Harry:
"Do you swim?"

I gave a smile of how absurd that was for me.

Winter:
"Nope."

He grinned back, coming closer and wrapping me in his arms.

Harry:
"Why not?"

Winter:
"Because, Harry. My lungs suck."

Harry:
"Come on. I'll hold you."

I loathed the terror I felt with the idea of being out among those waves. Though beautiful from where I stood, I was still quite‎ taken with even the thought.

My head shook from side to side in opposition.

Winter:
"No, no, no. I'm scared. Seriously."

I felt so silly, but it was honesty. There were certain things in my life I had cleverly avoided due to my health dillemas and I took them very seriously. He pulled slowly, the green of his eyes held mine in compatibility. His thumbs rubbed my knuckles as if to sooth me and I could tell he wasn't letting this go. He stopped for a moment to reassure me with his eyes. Though I'd been unwilling before I still hadn't let go...i still didn't know whose fault that was.

Harry:
"I've got you."

I let his hand go to move closer toward shore. I sighed with the anger that grew toward myself as I removed the denim shirts to leave only my bikini. He'd removed his shirt to throw toward me to be placed next to mine. I took a deep breath as I listened to the sound of the water. Going, going...I followed him with my fingers clutched tight to various places of his bare skin. The water was surprising warmer than I'd first anticipated. We were knee deep when I began to gasp with the force of the matter. Going...going. And my hair was dampened around me. My arms wrapped around his neck as he encouraged my legs around his waist. He held mine while we floated further out. It was quiet with all exceptions of nature. The sky was clear blue and it seemed the clouds had never heard of this place. We settle there for a moment...I didn't panic like I had before. With Scott attempting to sooth me with his words and cherish the experience. Encouraging me to try it because there was no way he'd let anything happen to me. Still I wouldn't go. But, no. This wasn't the same.‎ I was with Harry. I'd gone willingly.

His fingernails went gently in a back and forth motion across my back as I enjoyed the perspective of our view. I watched the distance as we held each other close. A peck went damp against my neck as if to draw my attention for the moment.

Harry:
"Not so bad, right?..."

I wondered if he knew of butterflies that swam through me, hearing his voice above it all‎. The sun created a different experience now gazing into his orbs. I rubbed our noses close as he always had. I'd felt so safe with him. My boobs were pressed to his bare chest, the curls along his neck became damp with time. ‎

Winter:
"...beautiful, actually."

The kiss was wet and hungry as I leaned. We were the only ones out here, just a few feet from the gorgeous beach house he'd rented for the two of us. It warmed me to think about.

Harry:
"Do you like it here?"

He'd asked with his eyes closed after pulling away, as if to realm in my closeness.

Winter:
"Love it, Harry."

He nodded as if wholeheartedly receiving that information.

Harry:
"That's good... I was nervous about choosing it."

I knew it was expensive but he refused to tell me how much. He always liked to leave me out of that sort of thing.

Winter:
"Why?"

Harry:
"Because according to your friends, I would have never gotten you in the water."

--

‎My hair was still a little damp as I walked about the large house in one of his over sized t-shirts. The shower we'd shared still lingered in my mind as I watched him from the door frame across the room.

Winter:
"What are you doing?"

It was obvious when I'd entered to him doing his set of push ups. He slowed before stopping with my entrance.

Harry:
"I've been wondering....have you thought much about baby names?"

I put my legs on either side of him to hug him from behind, pressing him to the floor. Though my intentions were playfully to make him uncomfortable he'd hummed in satisfaction.

Winter:
"Well I've mainly been trying to weed through the alphabet during showers, you know...I figured it'd be easier if I at least knew ‎the first letter... Have you?"

Harry:
"I've thought about it... but I think you should name her...or him."

Winter:
"Why me? You can't trust the judgment of someone named Winter. "

Harry:
"...‎I actually really like your name..."

I kissed against the skin of his shoulder almost in reaction to his words.

Winter:
"Thanks."

His chest rose and fell as he breathed in a deep manner with me atop him.

Harry:
"What about last names?"

Winter:
"Styles."

The house smelled tropically of lavender though I still wasn't sure the source of the scent.‎ He was obviously in a place of thought from his silence and I became a participant as not to wreck it. He managed to turn over so he now faced me. His large hands felt up my bare legs with the intimate position.

Harry:
"‎We'll brainstorm for an entire day during this trip."

I nodded in acceptance with the idea. There was a large brightly lit fish tank that spread entirely from wall to wall in this room. I looked upward ‎to give it my attention as I watched the plethora of vibrant colored fish swim back and forth through the large space. I removed myself from him when I heard my phone buzz against the glass plate shelf of the dresser.

Harry:
"Hey. You promised."

Winter:
"I'm turning it off now. I honestly forgot where it even was."

I checked the screen before powering it down.

Winter:
"It's just my mom anyway..."

Harry:
"Then why didn't you get it? "

Winter:
"I just-...don't have much to say to her right now."

My eyes were back to large form of art.

Winter:
"I'll call tomorrow, okay."

I felt at the marveled floor under my feet, taken by its elegant pattern. I knew he disapproved because he and my mother were pretty close these days. I loved that everything had worked out in that way for us...I just wished it would for her and my dad. I'd never want my children to experience that kind of disappointment with me and Harry. I stopped myself with the thought of it being plural.

Winter:
"Harry...you only want one kid, right?‎"

I wondered how his dimples could be so intense at times.

Harry:
"Honestly...I want as many as you'll give me."
