The Night I Met Harry

Another cold day.

My hand was placed over my ear as I gripped the top edge in comfort. It was the way I'd always fallen asleep at night against him. There was a longing now that I didn't feel his skin. I worshiped the inside of my eyelids a few seconds longer before peeling them open to greet the day. My hair was pushed back as I turned over toward the direction of Harry's side of the bed. His back lie against the headboard in a sitting position. He'd obviously been up a lot longer than I had from his attire and I wondered the time of day. A dark v-neck hugged his torso pleasingly to me. His curls had obviously been tamed and tasseled with. Rings wore his fingers as he cradled her in his arms. She hadn't once made a sound that had proceeded to wake me from my unconsciousness. I didn't wonder why. I felt myself sit up as he had, my eyes asked the questions as I peeled back the layers of warmth from my body.

Harry:
"They dropped her off an hour ago...I told them I'd wake you, but they insisted you needed sleep."

I processed his words slowly as I slipped from my resting state. It honestly brought a light to my mood to wake up to them both. I'd forget completely about her visit today. The girls and I were supposed to do a number of things but by the messages on my phones as I scrolled, they'd postponed until tomorrow. I'd gotten up after bracing myself for the morning sickness to realize it didn't invade my person as it did usually. I rubbed my eyes adoring the view of them once more before going to get dressed.
__
Winter:
"What's in this folder? You always have it."

I pried while straightening the dresser, looking at him through the reflection of the mirror.

Harry:
"Nothing, Winter. It's nothing, leave it."

My face wore the confusion well as I turned to silently acquire a pardon from him.

Harry:
"...please..."

The idea of secrets between us stirred me internally even if it was pertaining to something so trivial. I put my ring back on my finger subconsciously while I watched the intense color in his eyes.

Winter:
"I won't touch it...but you're going to tell me later."
I sat in the chair as I pulled a blanket from her baby-bag. It was laid across my chest in routine while I motioned to Harry to hold her. He'd gotten up slowly and hesitantly, a warm smile graced me at the realization. He always hawked her anytime I'd been on babysitting duty. She was slightly heavier than before. Her presence radiated warmth from her to me as she slept silently. She smelled of new life, the unique scent only a person of her age would have. I longed absently for my own bundle of innocence to experience that with. I looked at her intensely as her chest rose and fell. I had to draw her a million times since her birth, ones in which Harry demanded looked more like her than she did.

Harry:
"How did you sleep last night?"

Winter:
"Uh... Pretty well, I guess."

Harry:
"I ask because I kept turning you over in your sleep."

Winter:
"Why? What'd I do."

Harry:
"I don't like it when you lay on your stomach, it freaks me out."
I pondered that for a moment.

Winter:
"Doctor says its fine, I checked."

Harry:
"...Still freaks me out."

I gave him smile. I didn't argue because surely I had my own nature of weirdness he'd accepted.

--
We were on the lower level now. She slept quietly in her rocker as Harry and I talk amongst each other.

Winter:
"I crave ice cream so bad right now."

This was really becoming a problem because I never knew from one moment to the next what my body would demand of me.

Harry:
"I figured you would...I bought you some."

A symphony to my ears that was. I heard a disturbance shortly after as Allison began to cry softly and sleepily. Surely she'd been hungry by now or just spoiled at the fact we hadn't been holding her.

Harry:
"I'll get the bottle."
He laughed as he went up the stairs.

Harry:
"You never crave things like broccoli..."
I was glad one of us found humor in it.

A soft knock sounded at the door just after. It was a eerie change from usually when people just rang the doorbell. I reached it slowly checking the peephole to avoid surprises. It definitely still had it's effect when I pulled backward, quickly turning the knob and pulling the weight of the door open.

I looked down at her for a moment from inside the doorway before deciding to shut the door and step out. Her hair was as it was before though it looked she'd given her appearance a little more effort this time around. I looked at her with question, waiting for her to begin.

Savannah:
"Uhh...just tell Harry I'll stop by another time-"

Winter:
"It won't matter, I'll still be here."

I wanted so bad to tell her all the ties that drew me away from the next girl that longed for him, but I didn't feel it was her place to know. I eyed her in a daring manner.

Winter:
"What is it exactly that you want...Savannah."

She didn't reply immediately which told me I'd already knew the answer. ‎I stepped down from the doorway so that we stood at eye level. I'd gotten extremely close to her the more I thought of Harry. The anger spilled throughout me that I still had to deal with these girls after everything we'd been through since meeting.

Savannah:
"...You know what I want."

I heard the door open from behind me as the heavy emotions to harm her invaded me. I knew there would never be a girl ‎just willing to settle for his friendship and I wouldn't be okay with that justification anymore. My eye's contact left her as I felt the numbness melt away to display to me how cold I was. And the snow slowly began to escape the sky.
