The Night I Met Harry

Nightmares...

Scott POV:

I waited for her for what seemed liked forever there along the side of the park. It was where we’d use to come when she’d wanted to talk or get things off her chest. I’d tried calling but she was already back to the ignoring thing again, but there was no way I was losing her to someone who wouldn’t be her forever. I was stupid to just leave without talking to her before, despite her mistakes, and now I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get that chance. I knew now that I would never see anyone the way I saw her, and I just wish it didn’t take me the time it did to figure it out. The thought of her with happy with someone else was something I just couldn’t let go…and he could never love her like I could.
It’d grown dark now and it hurt a little to know I still hadn’t gotten through to her. I pulled my phone from my pocket, navigating to her number before making the call.

“She’s not going to answer.”

A male voice a few feet to my right had taken me off guard. There were few people in the park now, and I didn’t seem to recognize him so I questioned his purpose. He wore all black, including his coat and his lips blew smoke into the night air from the cigarette that was taken between his fingers.
“Scott, right?”
He hadn’t even been looking my way, but he fingered the curls in his hair from his face as he stood in what seemed to be deep thought.
Scott:
“And you are?”
The cigarette was puffed again as he analyzed my question, his eyebrows fusing as if I’d missed something.
“Sick of you bothering her.”
Just then I’d heard steps behind me emerging from the dimness of the park. How many was unsure, but I’d only saw the faces of the closet two.
“Let’s take a walk.”
The cigarette was put out and plucked into the can that stood between us. He’d walked away quietly in the darkest direction of the street.

Danny’s POV:
His eyes had swollen significantly from the impact of the blows. I could tell he tasted intensely the blood that filled his mouth from the gash on the side of his jaw. It was unreal that he didn’t faint as he stood there, who I assumed was Harry’s friends, holding him up on either side of the alley’s wall. The scene was dark except from the glow of the streetlight feet away. I was instructed by Austin to watch my best friend be taken to his knees, while a tall guy dressed in blacked held me from moving from the spot. They talked quietly amongst each other, and I wondered why Harry hadn’t yet touched him. He had pulled out another cigarette as his mood proved unaffected at the sight of Scott’s bloody face.
Scott:
“You’re not her type.”
He spat through the blood in his teeth. Harry had laughed silently to himself as he moved closer.
Harry:
“Yea? How’s that?”
His tone seemed amused by his effort to keep talking, despite his current condition.
Scott:
“She doesn’t do smokers…”
He’d been laughing as if to stir Harry and I’d wished to God he’d stop talking.
Harry:
“Well she has. Multiple times by the way, I’ve lost count of how many.”
I could tell he’d definitely drunk a little before this but not enough to slur his words. I knew for a fact Winter didn’t knew where we were. The Winter I knew would never allow this.
Scott:
“I think you’re underestimating how many times I’ve had her…”
Harry moved forward as the mellow tone left his mood. Austin quickly stepped in to prevent him from proceeding.

Austin:
“No! Stop! If you do that she’s going to know. Ignore him.”
He paced in a rage, clutching his fits tight in his hands.
Harry:
“Again.”
Austin laid into him at Harry’s demand. It all made sense why he’d been holding off now, and I was certain she didn’t know this side of him. If you asked me he had a bit of an anger problem, and I wondered briefly if he ever unleashed it on her. His phone had begun to ring just then. He motioned for him to stop and he quickly took it out of his pocket shifting his mood and answering. His finger was held out for silence.
Harry:
“Hey babe.”
I watched as his expression softened. In that moment I pondered, if things really were real between them, why hurt her by hurting the person she once loved…
Harry:
“Everything’s fine. I’ll be home by twelve, okay. Promise.”
It was definitely Winter, and I could tell he’d likely never avoided her calls.
Harry:
“I love you too.”
He hung up as he motioned for them to let Scott go. He lent his eye contact to Austin before speaking.
Harry:
“Let’s just go, she’s freaking out.”
Scott:
“Oh. And you know that small scar on her inner thigh, kind of like a birthmark? I put it there.”
His words brought rage to Harry’s presence and I can tell he’d just lost it. He’d been holding back the entire night but he wouldn’t tolerate his digs at Winter. He pushed Austin aside when he tried to restrict him. His fist immediately drew blood to Scott’s face. My impulse to help him launched me forward but I was quickly refused by his company. I watched as he brought up his fist again and again despite the fact Scott was too weak to fight back.
Danny:
“Harry, stop!”
I could almost hear the bone in his hand being connected to those of Scott’s face. Austin tried pulling him off and he’d swung once more, Scott’s head hitting the stone.
Austin:
“Harry, enough! You’re supposed to let me handle! Look at your hand now, she’ll hate you.”
He successfully pulled him away as Harry’s rage began to dampen. He took a breath before he moved in again when Scott began to spit out the blood that now overflew his mouth. His face gushed red and I felt intense pain for him. Harry stooped down to his level as he examined his hand.
Harry:
“Stay away from her. Don’t call her. Don’t call her mom. Don’t come to the house. Don’t go to that market, not ever. If she tells me you’ve been bothering her again, I won’t be this nice the next time.”
His words were cold and emotion-less and I felt chills with the thought of it being a next time. He’d stood up, motioning the guys to help him up and began walking slowly toward me. His company had released me immediately as he backed me toward the wall. His green eyes were dark and serious before he spoke.
Harry:
“If you so much as look at her like that again, I’ll smash your fucking head in.”
His feet backed him away briefly.
Harry:
“This never happened, got it?”
I nodded in disbelief as he walked away calmly toward the way we’d come. And before I could process the realness of his words, I was pushed along to follow the rest of the group from the dark alley.

To be continued….
