The Contract

Can I Have This Dance?

Dani's P.O.V.

I woke up the next morning to the balcony door open. A slight breeze blew in. I pulled the sheets over my naked body and saw Luke on his stomach with his back exposed. As I went to rub my hand across his back the ring glimmered in the sun; I smiled. I rolled over wrapping myself in the sheets. and went to the balcony. I took a deep breath and continued to admire the ring.
“This can’t be real.” I sighed.
“And if it is?” Luke smiled, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my cheek.
“It’s crazy.” I smiled back, laughing slightly at his hunch over me. “I’m not as short as you make me feel.”
“You’re pretty short.” he chuckled, letting go.
“I am not.”
“To me you are.”
“Bite me.”
“Don’t tempt me... I think we had enough fun last night.” He winked walking back into the room.
I took one last glimpse at the ring and walked back inside.
“Does this trip have to end?” I asked.
“I wish it didn’t.” Luke replied, kissing me.
“Back to being reality tv.” I sighed.
“Hey, this is our story now. We get to go back and everyone will be fawning over the ring just like you.”
“I know you’re trying to make me laugh, but we both know they’ll spin this however they want.”
“Dani, please don’t worry. I promise it will all be okay. We’ll have each other.”

Before I knew it the plane was landing back in the states and the cameras were already flashing.
“Here we go.” Luke smiled, kissing my hand.
“Here we go.” I mocked.
Before we stepped off the plane Rob stopped us.
“Remember to flash the ring and say nothing but good things.” he sternly spoke.
“Got it.” We replied insync.
As we stepped off the plane the lights were overwhelming, but we nodded and smiled... And flashed the ring.
We quickly made it back to the house and got greeted warmly by everyone.
“Dani!” The boys shouted. “We missed you!” I was pulled into the tightest group hug of my life.
“What am I? Chopped liver?” Luke joked, but with a straight face.
“Yes.” They all replied.
“Dani!” Rae called.
“I’ve missed you!” we yelled at one another, holding each other tight.
“Now we’re chopped liver.” Ashton spoke.
“Where are the other girls?” I asked.
“Not now.” Rae whispered, luckily none of the boys heard me.
I could feel the exhaustion running through my. Jetlag. But Rae pulled everyone out to the deck for a bonfire.
“We have pizza, beer, wine, and cake.” she excitedly spoke.
“Cake?”
“We’re celebrating aren’t we?”
“I mean... We’ve done this before.” I chuckled.
“Not like this. Enjoy it.”
I changed and headed back downstairs. Luke wrapped me in his blanket and held me close.
“I missed you,” He whispered in my ear.
“I didn’t go anywhere.” I whispered back.“Too far away from me.” he nuzzled.
“Such a baby.”
“Your baby.”
I chuckled and sank in closer to him.
We all reminisced some times before we all knew each other.
“Wait... You guys never had a prom?” Rae asked.
“No, no, we had proms. We didn’t get to attend.” Michael responded.
“The masquerade was the closest thing we had to going to prom.” Luke added in, then he realized what he brought up, but luckily the subject quickly changed.
“What about a graduation?” Rae asked.
“Nope.” Michael smiled.
“That’s crazy.” Rae replied.
“Such is life.” Ash smiled.
“I wouldn’t change a thing.” Cal smiled, taking a sip of beer.
The boys all nodded in agreement.
Rain started falling and everyone ran inside except for me. I sat peacefully in the drizzle. I watched the way it fell, putting out the fire.
“Dani?” Luke called.
I chose to blissfully ignore him.
“You’re going to get a cold.” he called out.
I still chose to ignore him, smiling, and tilting my head up.
He walked inside. I let the feeling of the rain overtake me. It felt like it was washing the wight of the world off of me.

Luke’s P.O.V.

“Raegan? Is Dani okay out there?”
Rae giggled, “You’re still learning how to handle someone you can’t control huh?”
“Sort of.” I half-smiled, not sure that was a diss or compliment.
“She’s okay. Overwhelmed maybe, but she’s good. She’ll probably have a gnarly cold, so take care of her, will ya?”
“I can do that.” I smiled as she turned to her room.
“You okay mate?” Mike asked.
“I just wish this world wasn’t suffocating her.”
“In a way didn’t they sign up for it?”
“To an extent. She handles everything but management so well.”
“I still don’t like them and they sign our paychecks.” He slightly smiled, and so did I. “Now go get your girl out of the rain, or tell her to learn how to dance in it.”
I walked back out side and pulled Dani out of her chair.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“We’re dancing.”
“Dancing in the rain? You’re so cheesy, Hemmings.”
“It gets better. Wait.”
I cleared my throat, began singing and took the lead.
Take my hand, take a breath
Pull me close and take one step
Keep your eyes locked on mine
And let the music be your guide
Won't you promise me
We'll keep dancing
Wherever we go next
It's like catching lightning, the chances of finding someone like you
It's one in a million, the chances of feeling the way we do
And with every step together, we just keep on getting better
So can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?
Take my hand, I'll take the lead
And every turn we'll be safe with me
Don't be afraid, afraid to fall
You know I'll catch you through it all.”

“High school musical? Really? You’ve seen that?” she laughed.
I nodded and continued singing and dancing in the rain, “And you can't keep us apart (even a thousand miles can't keep us apart)
Cause my heart is wherever you are.”

When I stopped, Dani pulled me by the hand and ran inside.
“That bad huh?” I chuckled.
“Not even close, it was freezing!”
“How do you suggest we warm up?” I smirked.
She smiled and ran for the bedroom.
God, I love this girl.
