Harry’s Perspective

Harry had hardly slept.

His slumber had been jittery and fitful, butterflies of excitement fluttering in his belly from memories of the night before, yet restful and deep, the tiniest grin permitting his lips from the sweet satisfaction of falling asleep with her by his side.

He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The way she felt under him, how her skin felt against his, the sweet sound of his name falling from her lips and the way they seemed to fit together so perfectly.

It all felt so right, like it was all meant to be.

His subconscious had been counting down hours and minuets until he could finally open his eyes. The night had been far too long, he wanted to see her face, touch her skin, caress her hair, make her breakfast and in bed and lounge under the blankets with her for the rest of the day- anything that’d be solid evidence that the night before hadn’t just been a dream.

When morning arrived, Harry awoke to an empty bed.

The sheets were in disarray and her scent still lingered on his pillows. The clothes he’d lent her were no longer pooled on the hardwood floor where he’d discarded them.

They were gone, right along with her.

His mind raced with a million thoughts and his heart wrenched with devastation.

Where had she gone?
Why hadn’t she stayed?
Why wasn’t she by his side?

Harry thinks that maybe he’d done something wrong. Or maybe he’d done all the right things but they just weren’t enough.

Maybe he wasn’t enough and she thought so too.
Maybe then she would have stayed.
