Stars in Your Eyes

Epilogue

The sun was shining so bright on the day of Harry’s graduation, it was almost blinding. Shay sat in the bleachers with her parents and Harry’s family as they watched the Class of 2012 graduate. The senior class took up a good chunk of the football field as they all sat, waiting for their names to be called to receive their diplomas. Shay and Damien screamed as loud as they could when Harry’s name was called over the loud speaker. They were so incredibly proud of him. As she watched her boyfriend walk across the platform to receive his diploma, a happy memory came to mind.

.

.

“Look what finally came,” Harry’s mother Anne said, handing him a large, thick envelope from Penn State.

Harry’s eyes lit up at what he saw. He’d been waiting so long for this. Louis received his acceptance letter earlier in the week and Shay knew it bummed Harry out to deal with such anticipation and stress. And she was about to lose all faith in that college if Louis got in and Harry didn’t. Harry’s grades were always slightly higher than Louis’ all throughout high school. Penn State would be receiving a finely written letter of disapproval from Shay if they crushed Harry’s dreams.

“Well, aren’t you going to open it?” His father Des chuckled.

With that, Harry ripped into the envelope. Shay watched his eyes as they moved back and forth reading the cover letter.

“I-I…” He said, looking up at all of their prying eyes. Shay was about to explode from the anticipation.

“I got in. I GOT IN!” He yelled excitedly.

They all screamed and thrust themselves at him in one large heap of a hug. Pride didn’t even describe the feeling Shay was feeling.

.

.

Harry was graduating high school and he was going to fulfill his dream of going to school at Penn State with his best friend, Louis. Yes, Louis was still Harry’s best friend, even though there was still some underlying issues that hadn’t been fully addressed or accepted by certain people.

.

.

“Louis...” Harry said as he walked into the living room where Louis sat at the Tomlinson house.

“Yo. What are you doing here, man?” Louis smirked at Harry.

“Uh, we need to talk,” Harry told him.

“About what?” He asked.

“Shay,” Harry said evenly.

“No. I thought we were over this, man,” Louis said, shaking his head.

“I’ll never be over it,” Harry told him.

“What do you mean? What are you saying?” Louis asked. Shay could register the anger in her brother’s voice as he answered.

She peeked her head around the corner and saw that Louis was now standing up in front of Harry. He didn’t look very happy with Harry either.

“Listen, man. I-I tried. I tried to respect the fact that you were bothered that your best friend and your sister were… together. Okay? I tried. I stayed away from her for months, Louis. But I just can’t do it anymore. She’s all I want,” Harry told Louis.

“No,” Louis said, shaking his head.

“I’m sorry. But I’m going to be with her,” Harry told him.

“You can’t be with my sister, Harry. No,” Louis said again.

“I stayed away from her hoping you’d eventually come around to the idea of us together. But it’s obvious that your opinion can’t be swayed. So I guess I’m giving you an ultimatum this time. You can either accept us together or you can destroy our friendship. Because it’s on you this time. I did what I could, but I’m not going to sacrifice my happiness for you when you can’t even give me a valid reason for your disapproval of our relationship,” Harry said, speaking calmly and evenly.

“That’s fucked up, dude. This is really fucked up,” Louis grumbled.

“It’s not. It’s life,” Harry said, shaking his head.

Shay watched on baited breath as Louis stared Harry down for a few silent moments before he stalked off toward the staircase, disappearing to his room. She heard Harry take a deep breath and let it out as she quietly walked up to him.

“You did what you could. Like you said, it’s on him now,” Shay said, wrapping her arms around him.

“Yeah, it just sucks,” Harry said, looking depressed about the entire situation.

“But now we can be happy,” she told him, smiling up at him.

“You’re right,” he said, letting the sadness vanish from his expression, replacing it with a smile.

“I love you,” she reminded him.

“I love you too,” Harry told her before he leaned in to kiss her lips.

.

.

It was an odd thing – Louis’s reaction to Harry’s ultimatum. Harry gave Louis the weekend to stew it over and expected nothing but the silent treatment at school on Monday. But Louis just acted as if nothing happened, as if there wasn’t an obstacle pressing hard against their friendship.

It bothered Shay for two reasons. The first made her even angrier with Louis. If he was able to just set aside his feelings about her and Harry’s relationship like that in the first place, there could have been a lot of spared heartache. The second made her angry with Harry for not confronting Louis about their relationship months ago.

Shay heard later on from Louis’ girlfriend Danielle that Louis was so entirely pissed about it, but she talked him down and made him see reason. And that’s how they got the passive Louis they had now. He was about as okay with it as they expected in the first place.

Shay was surprised when her mother gave her permission to go out with Harry after graduation. After all, she knew Harry and Louis had big plans to go to a party down by the lake with some of their friends and the rest of the senior class. Once Jay gave her permission, Shay didn’t say anything else, in fear of her changing her mind. She quickly ran up to her room and readied herself for the night. She didn’t want to jinx it.

When Harry came by the house, the two of them, plus Louis and Danielle said a quick goodbye to their parents and then quietly slipped out of the house. The lake was only two blocks away, so they all decided to walk since they knew there would be drinking and they didn’t want to chance making a dumb decision later. Mark and Johannah would have revived them and killed them again if they were to die in a car accident because they were drunk driving.

There was a huge bonfire burning on the shore and so many people were there. Shay was almost certain the entire senior class showed up and then some. She would never understand how a bunch of teenagers managed to get several kegs of beer. But she didn’t ask questions. She was there to have a good time, just like everybody else.

Harry held onto her hand tightly as he mingled with his fellow classmates – people he might not see anymore because, for them, the institution known as high school was no longer around to mandatorily throw them together. It was their last hurrah. And it was a bittersweet thing – both happy and sad. It made Shay think about two years down the line when she would be going through it. What would she be feeling? Would she be happy about it? Or would she be sad to see it all fade away? She did have a lot of friends. And a lot of people she liked, but was certain she would never keep in touch with most of them outside of school. But honestly, the only person that really mattered to her was gripping onto her hand. And the fact that he would be leaving in two and a half months for college, literally ripped her heart in two.

Penn State was over four hours away. Harry was moving four hours away to live for nine months out of the year. Shay would only get to see him on major holidays and summer break. A fact which killed her. The thought of him leaving gave her severe panic attacks. But she couldn’t think of that right now. Not while her fingers were so perfectly intertwined with his. Not when they still had the rest of the summer to prepare for their goodbyes. She had him, and that’s all that mattered to her in the moment.

“Hey, you want to get out of here?” Harry breathed in her ear.

They’d been roaming around the party, sipping on their cups of beer for almost two hours. Getting out of there with Harry sounded absolutely perfect to Shay.

“Please,” she nodded, feeling the effects the alcohol had on her.

Her brain felt like it was sloshing around her skull and her eyes and cheeks felt warm on her face. When they walked, every once in a while she’d trip in the sand and Harry would have to catch her by pulling her body into his. And the giggling – ugh. She giggled so much when she drank.

Shay and Harry walked hand-in-hand together through the neighborhood.

“I don’t want this to end,” Shay sighed, resting her head against his arm.

“What to end?” He asked.

“This. Us. You and Me,” she sighed again.

“It’s not ending. We’re not ending, Shay,” Harry told her with so much honesty in his voice.

“That’s not what I meant,” she giggled.

“What did you mean?” He asked.

“I meant, when you leave. I’m not looking forward to nights like this ending. I’m not looking forward to not being able to hold your hand when I want or kiss you when I want or make love to you when I want,” Shay said, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, stopping both of them in the middle of the street.

“I’m not looking forward to that either, Shaylynn,” Harry smiled at her contently.

“I love you,” she sighed, leaning up to kiss his lips.

“I love you too,” he said, resting his forehead against hers.

“I want you to make love to me, Harry. Right in the street if we have to,” she said, flailing her arms out as Harry held her up so she wouldn’t fall.

“Not in the street,” he laughed.

“Somewhere, anywhere. I want to feel you,” she breathed, looking back into his eyes.

“I want to feel you too, Shay,” he smiled, kissing her lips again.

“Right now,” she told him, wrapping her arms around his neck again.

“Come on,” he said, pulling her arms off of him and intertwining their fingers together again.

Harry led her down the road to his house, sure that his family would be sleeping. When they stumbled into the house, the light in the kitchen was on.

“Shit,” Harry said under his breath.

Shay held her hand over her mouth, sure of the fact that she would make some sort of noise if she didn’t – especially with the intoxicated state she was in.

Shh,” Harry breathed, holding his finger over his lips. She nodded her head in comprehension.

“What are you two doing?” They heard Damien’s voice, causing Shay to yelp into her hand, getting startled by him.

“Holy shit, dude,” Harry said, holding his hand over his heart. Damien just chuckled at the two of them.

“What the hell, Damien?” Shay whispered.

“What the hell to you too?” He chuckled.

“What are you doing awake? It’s like, late,” Harry asked him.

“Hungry. What are you two doing sneaking in at this hour?” He asked, giving them a knowing look.

“Uh…” Harry stammered and Shay just giggled.

“Oh, gross. You came here to bone, didn’t you?” Damien groaned, making a disgusted face.

“Just, shut up,” Harry said, shoving Damien’s shoulder.

“My room is right next to yours. Gross,” he said.

“We’ll be quiet,” Harry smiled, patting his little brother on the shoulder as he grabbed Shay’s hand and pulled her with him to the stairs.

“You better be!” Damien called up to them.

As soon as Harry’s door was closed, his lips were on Shay’s as they stumbled toward the bed. Shay kept having to tell herself that she needed to be quiet. Harry’s whole family was home and she just really needed to be fucking quiet.

When the backs of her legs hit the mattress, she stumbled backwards onto it, pulling Harry down with her. She giggled into his collarbone, trying to be quiet. But seriously, the pain shooting through her hips from Harry’s own hips crushing them was so agonizing it was comical.

Shh-sh-sh. You’ve got to be quiet,” Harry laughed against her cheek.

Oww-hww-hww,” Shay giggled.

“Are you okay?” He chuckled.

“You’re hips killed my hips,” she giggled lightly.

“I’m sorry. Do you want me to kiss them?” Harry smiled down at her.

“I want you to kiss every inch of my body,” she said, surprising even herself with her words. Both of their eyes went wide and they began to laugh again.

“God, I love it when you say stuff like that. Just… you need to say stuff like that more often,” Harry chuckled.

“I guess you need to get me drunk more often,” Shay giggled.

Mmm,” Harry hummed as his hands worked up her shirt.

“I need to get you naked. That’s what I need to do,” Harry said, letting his laughter die off, transforming into his role as lover.

Mm-hmm,” she agreed, lifting her upper body slightly off the bed so he could pull her tank top off.

His hand roamed over the soft lace of her bra, his eyes moving in sync with it. Quickly, Shay unhooked the bra and let it go lax on her chest. Harry swooped in quickly to pull it off of her altogether.

Mm,” he moaned against her flesh as his lips met the peaks of her breasts, one-by-one.

Oh, God.

His lips trailed down the crevice between her breasts and then down the long valley of her stomach before he stopped at her hips.

“You’re all red. Where we collided, your skin is all red,” Harry said, looking up at her.

“It didn’t feel very good,” Shay chuckled.

“I’ll make it feel better,” he said, letting his lips move over the heated flesh.

His tongue swirled circles around her hips and she felt like dying. To die like that would be such a heavenly way to go. Death by Harry’s mouth. And the best part was that he hadn’t even reached the goods yet – to which she was sure she would most definitely die when he did.

Harry’s fingers gripped onto the waistband of her jean shorts pulling the fabric down to reveal more skin. Shay groaned below him – trying to keep it mostly silent, but sometimes she just couldn’t help it.

With his fingers, Harry popped open the button and pulled down the zipper of her shorts before he pulled them completely down her legs. His mouth kissed over her underwear clad mound before he too pulled them off, leaving her naked, laid out before him.

“You are so beautiful, Shaylynn,” Harry breathed, pulling his t-shirt over his head.

“You can’t say that stuff to me and then pull your shirt off like some sort of godly man. You are beauty defined, Styles,” she told him.

“Comments like that won’t distract me from your beauty. You are so fucking beautiful,” he said, falling to his knees in front of the bed, in front of her spread legs.

“Oh, God,” she groaned as his mouth found her flesh once again.

Harry’s tongue swirled and licked and his lips sucked and kissed. And her body shook and writhed. It was all so pleasing. She almost couldn’t handle herself. And when she finally lost it, when her moans came out louder than she expected them to, Harry continued on, but reached up, cupping his hand over her mouth. His dominance only making the experience better.

“Please, just… oh god, Harry,” Shay groaned against his hand. He let it fall from her face as he crawled up her body.

“What, baby?” He asked, looking down at her.

“Just please… I need you,” she begged.

He chuckled at her desperation, but she wasn’t laughing. She thought she might spontaneously combust if she didn’t have him. It was like her blood was itching for him – her skin was tingling for his to rub against it.

Mm-hmm,” he hummed, leaning down to kiss her lips.

Shay’s breathing intensified when Harry pulled up to finish undressing himself. She almost couldn’t handle the wait. How did she feel like this? How could she feel like this? She was only sixteen. Was it even possible to need another human being this badly? She just knew she did. She needed him like her lungs needed air.

Once Harry was undressed and had a condom on, Shay nearly clawed his skin, pulling him on top of her.

“I love you so much,” Harry breathed against her lips.

“Harry – God. You’re everything to me,” she told him sincerely.

His lips pressed hard against her own and it was perfect. When he pushed inside of her, it was like every need her body ever had was being met. He was all she needed. He completed her.

Two more months of this and then it would be missing in action. He would be gone from the end of August until Christmas time. Shay was already counting down the days. Five months and twenty days until Christmas would bring them back together. And then everything would be good again.

Notes

I would love to know what you thought of the story as a whole. Also, stay tuned for the sequel which is titled Back to the Start. I'll try to get it out soon. Reviewing this story will more than likely give me motivation to post the first chapter of the sequel (and it's a long, dramatic one). Just sayin...

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed it!
