Incubis
The Chase
"Thanks Tony! See you around. Thanks for everything." I called to the owner of my favorite coffee house (& good friend) as I threw my leather jacket on.
"No problem, Doll. Come back anytime! You're always welcome." He smiled at me while he wiped down the last couple tables. I grinned at him, waved, & walked out into the cold night (well morning actually, it was nearly 1am). I breathed in the crisp Autumn air, & sighed happily, as I zipped up my jacket. I grabbed my coffin shaped cigarette case & lighter out of my pocket, lit one up, & began my walk home. I decided to go the long way tonight, to enjoy the cold. It's not very often that I get weather like this in "Satans Armpit", aka Arizona, & I wanted to savor the chill.
As I walked, I noticed the streets were pretty deserted, & that made me a bit uneasy. So I grabbed the knife I had tucked in my boot, & slid it into my jacket pocket, just in case I needed to get to it quickly.
I breathed in a last drag of minty nicotine, & flicked the butt of my cancer-stick to the ground. While doing so, my ears picked up a familiar sound.
The sound of footsteps, clicking against the pavement behind me. I didnt stop though, just kept walking. This was a pretty decent area. I highly doubted I'd get hurt here, but even if something did happen, I had a knife on me, & I knew how to fight. The footsteps behind me were starting to get louder, they sounded like whomever it was behind me, was right on my heels. I reached inside my jacket pocket, wrapped my hand around my knife, & quickly spun around, Hoping to catch the person off guard, but there was absolutely nothing there.
"I feel like I'm in a cliche horror movie.." I muttered, then turned back around & continued walking.
After a few steps I heard it again, this time I pulled the knife out of my pocket & held it in front of my body, so whomever was stalking me couldn't see it. Then, in the blink of an eye, I whirled around. Knife in hand, & came face to face with a hooded stranger.
