A Life for A Life

Smoke Bombs and iPhones

*Caitlyn’s POV*

I had no way of knowing where the hell Louis was, and I wasn’t about to ask for the CIA’s help either. If I were to find him, I would do it my own way. I had to do this quickly though, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it until the guys had their signings to do. Judging from when Agent Lee called me, the other two shouldn’t be landing in L.A. until 11:30 AM.

I remembered Louis saying something about a signing he and the boys were supposed to do at 11:00 AM today. The boys would note Louis’s absence, but telling how Louis was the type to take forever to get ready, it was possible that they could overlook his lateness as long as he showed up at some point. I had to see them. If I wanted to find Louis, there was something they each had that I needed.

So I made myself dress up like a fan, or at least, a normal teenage girl. It was about eight o’clock whenever I managed to get myself outside. I had four hours to plan some kind of distraction. It needed to be harmless but huge enough to where it would get the guys attention and curiosity up. I was out in the streets and I could already see the fans crowding around in hopes of seeing the guys.

Ha, too bad they didn’t know they were still asleep. Either way, if I was going to make a distraction, I had to time it perfectly. I was at a race against time, so I knew I couldn’t waste a second of it. Since I had no way of knowing where I was going, I decided to look around town, seeing if anything would pop out to me.

It took about an hour’s walk before I finally found what I was looking for. It was a slightly older building that sold fireworks. It was perfect.

Being how it was not firework season, the place was clothed, but I could still see the racks of fireworks that were inside. I made my way around back, taking out the bobby pins I’ve kept all this time and went to work. It didn’t take long to get myself inside and start skimming over the racks. I didn’t want to hurt anybody, so I definitely took the whole lighting up the sky kind of deal out of the way.

I felt a small smirk lit my face as my eyes settled on some smoke bombs. I grabbed some, stuffing them on the back of my pants. I looked around, grabbing a thing of matches and booking my way out of there. I had to be back in time to get in line for the boys. I quickly made my way back toward the crowd that was waiting for the boys.

Once I got back, I had to slowly make my way past the long line that ended in front of a building. I felt myself sigh as I began to make a detour quickly to the building beside it, working my way inside to the back door. The back door I noticed was fenced off. I stayed low, seeing someone behind the fence, taking a quick smoke. I watched as they threw down a cigarette and scanned a card to get back in. They swung the door open quite wide and I quickly climbed over the fence and jumped down, running toward the door and got inside.

I silently looked around. I noticed a clock on the wall that said a quarter after ten. Just fifteen more minutes, I thought to myself. I had to find a decent place to throw the smoke bombs into though. I had to time it perfectly. It didn’t take long before the screams from outside began to get louder as the doors were finally opening to allow fans in. I didn’t have a choice then. I quickly looked to see if the coast was clear before lighting up the smoke bombs and throwing them in a vent.

I made my way around the hallways to near the screams. I stopped at a corner, seeing fans crowding around a table that was on the opposite end from where I was standing. It wasn’t exactly hard to drown myself in the crowd. I wasn’t sure how long it would be before someone would notice the smoke in the vents, so I knew I had to get up close to them fast.

I gently pushed my way forward, making sure not make eye contact and not to do a drastic move to get myself caught by a fan and cause them to make a scene. I stopped at what I thought was a reasonable distance and let the line go forward. There wasn’t a very organized line, just a bunch of girls crowding around for a chance to go up and meet the boys. I eyed each of them, deciding who I would think would have what I need.

My eyes rested on Zayn where he was standing and giving a girl a hug. In his back pocket sticking out some was his phone. Perfect. Just what I needed. I let the crowd move forward. After about three minutes, I finally came up in front of him. “Hi.” He greeted me, a sweet smile on his face.

I smiled back, though fake. “Hello.”

He stood up, allowing me to wrap my arms around his waist for a hug. Perfect timing. I heard the fire alarm go off. “Ah, come on!” I heard Niall complained. “We just got here!”

Even the fans were groaning, but I heard Liam and Harry yelling for everyone to head outside. “Ah, damn…” I heard Zayn murmur beside me. I had to put on some acting skills. Well, I guess you could call it acting. I let the fear of thinking of Louis’s life in danger take a small toll on me. Zayn looked over at me, seeing how scared I was. He put an arm around me, nice enough to lead me out with the guys. I used it as a chance to take the phone out of his back pocket as we walked.

Everyone was outside and there were employees around, leading everyone away from the building. Security guards were around, trying to gather up the guys. I stuck Zayn’s phone in my back pocket as he pulled me away. “It’s okay. It’s probably just a false alarm.” He tried to calm me.

I offered a small smile, but now I knew I had to leave. It was hard with Zayn standing beside me. I was glad to see a guard come over and lead him away from me. I felt his eyes on me, worried slightly as I let myself disappear into the crowd of fans. Close or not, he didn’t notice his phone being taken away. I made myself get away from the huge crowd.

I brought out Zayn’s phone, looking at its contents. I’ve been on that bus long enough to pretty much overhear and memorize all of their passwords to everything. I typed his passcode in, going through is contacts until I found Louis’s number. Awesome thing about iPhones… you can track your friends.

Bingo, I found him. On the maps it showed him outside the streets of L.A. Now I had a mission to do. I was going to go find him. If I could get past the thought of killing my used-to-be parents, I would save his life… and my own. I would bring him back to his boys alive and unharmed.

That much I could promise.
