A Life for A Life

Been A While

*Caitlyn’s POV*

It wasn’t every day you would pay someone a visit and the next thing you know they’re holding a gun to your head. “Morgan!” Nina gasped, jumping up from her seat.

“Welcome home.” I said, reaching over casually to grab the mug I was using for coffee.

But I wasn’t going to drink it. I swung it up, aiming for his head but he blocks my hand, whereas I let go of the mug to grab his arm. He grunted as I brought my knee up to hit him in the ribs. I expertly maneuvered the gun from his hand into mine while throwing him on the ground, my foot on his chest and gun pointing at his face. Nina was screaming by now.

I was getting slightly annoyed, but I wasn’t about to kill the man. I disassembled the gun, throwing the pieces on the ground. “Nina.” Morgan breathed. “Calm down. Go upstairs with the children.”

“But-“

“Do as the man says.” I said, keeping my eyes on Lee.

She didn’t waste any time, probably because they were her main concern for now. “Why are you here?” He spat, grabbing at my ankle, but I kept a firm grip on his chest.

“I came for answers, Lee. My patience has run out.”

I loosened the foothold I had and he pushed it off of his chest. He quickly got up, wiping down his suit. “I know that much, what I meant was why are here at my house with my family?”

“What quicker way to get to you than through your family?” I asked. The questioned seemed to be a taunt to him and I held up my hands. “I don’t mean any harm, Lee. That threat I gave over the phone was for pure motivation. I don’t want anyone to be brought into this, much less your family.”

Lee stopped wiping at his suit long enough to think. “Alright. You want answers?” With my nod, he continued. “I can’t give them to you. But I know someone who can.”

My face scrunched up in confusion. “Who?”

“Your sister.”

I gaped. “What does she have to do with any of this!?”

“She’s just as much as into this as you are. I don’t know if you know already, but ever since you’ve made your disappearance, her parents have brought her to CIA HQ for training. It already seems she knows what she’s doing too.”

“I don’t understand…” I said, bringing a hand up to my mouth.

“It seems for whatever it is your parents don’t think you can do, she can do.”

“What could that possibly be-“ I started, but I stopped.

I knew exactly what it was. They’ve been training her under secrecy that not even the CIA knew about. It wasn’t surprising, she was their daughter, but if I had to think over it once, I would assume under self-defense, but no, it was more. She was a mere back-up plan for whatever reason they’ve been training me throughout the years.

So she was just like me, but only more.

Memories of the past came to mind. I was trained to be merciless and fight, breaking every bone in a person’s body and torture the victim into giving the correct information. But there was one thing I absolutely refused to do that my parents wanted me to do.

To kill.

So Michelle wasn’t afraid to kill. She was that merciless. She really did have her parent’s blood in her.

“I need to talk to her.” I said, looking up at Lee. “Can you take me to her?”

“It’s a risky deal. I have no idea what orders she’s under with her parents. She could try to kill you on the spot.”

“I don’t care.” I said. “I’ll fight her if I have to. Just take me to her.”

Lee nodded. He looked around the kitchen before going over to one of the bread containers. He opened it, pulling out a square piece of wood and grabbing a gun. “Here.” He tossed it to me.

I caught it, reaching behind me and hiding it under my clothes.

“Just to be safe.”
