Time Off

SAM

Blair drops me off at my apartment after ice cream and a long, long boy conversation. I kick my heels off and head to my fridge, for some odd reason alcohol after ice cream just seemed like a good idea to me. I put on some music and twirl about in the outfit Blair so graciously let me keep. Minutes fly by as I enjoy my drink and the music. I know if anyone saw me right now, they would probably think I belong in an institution. A knock at the door calls for my attention as I skip to answer it.

"Cade?" I ask puzzled.
"Yeah, um hey. Hope you don't mind me stopping by."
"I--how did you--" I stop myself, shaking my head. "Never mind, come on in."

Before I can even close the door Cade begins.

"I'm sorry fucking sorry. I had no idea they were setting me up. I was looking for you the entire night, thought you bailed on me and then Madeline sat herself in my lap and wouldn't get off and Styles and Holly just kept laughing and once I saw your face I knew -- I knew you would think the worst and I --"
"Whoa Cade!" I slow him before sighing.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that Harry would be behind this, but I am puzzled as to why he would do it?

"Please don't hate me." He begs.
I laugh. "I don't hate you. I was just really confused and didn't want to cause a scene so we left."
"But I was looking forward to hanging out with you."
"Well, you are in my apartment now."
He smirks. "True." He looks me up and down. "You look really fucking amazing."
I blush, completely forgetting what I had on. "Thanks but I'm going to get changed if you don't mind."
"I mean."
I roll my eyes and rush to my room. "Help yourself to whatever!" I call out.

I change into some comfortable clothes, venturing back out to find Cade sitting on the couch. I take a seat next to him, sitting Indian style.

"So, who is she?"
"Who?"
"The girl that was in your lap?" I sound a bit defensive.
"Holly's friend Madeline." He sighs. "I want to believe Harry wasn't behind it but I don't know." I shake my head. "Does he know, that we are uh, talking?"
"Yeah he does which is why it pissed me off."
I purse my lips. "I don't like Holly."
"Holly doesn't like me, which is why I was so confused as to why she was throwing her friend at me."
A small silence comes between us. "Do you like her?"
"No!" He quickly zips.
I smile to myself before scooting a little closer to Cade. "Well, that solves that."
"Wait, really?"
"Yeah? Why would you make all this effort to make sure I knew the truth if you didn't like me? If I dwell on stupid girls then we could never move on."
He smiles, putting out his hand. I take and carefully cuddle up to him. "Want to watch a movie? This theater is a little more comfy."
He laughs. "Yeah, that would be great."

We pick a movie and waste the rest of the night away within each other's company.

I spend Saturday curled up in Blair's house, eating popcorn as she finishes a term paper.

"I guess what I'm confused about is why Harry would try and sabotage his friend?"
"Guys are all the same Sam. Just because Harry is with jolly Holly doesn't mean he doesn't want to be in your pants."
"What!" I screech. "No no no!"
She laughs. "Chill, but really. It's college."
I sigh. "I think I really like Cade."
"Really?" She swoons, sitting next to me. "How cute! Have you told him?"
"No." I shake my head. "I think it's too soon."
"Hmm." Blair hums. "Maybe you are right, but I will say this. Cade grew up because he definitely didn't look that fine freshmen year." She informs wiggling her eyebrows.
I laugh, smacking her with a pillow.
"But maybe you should just tell him." She shrugs.
"What if he runs?"
"Then....chase him from far away?"
We share a laugh together before bumming out the rest of the rainy day.

Weeks carry on as Cade and I spend a substantial amount of time together.
"Harry has been getting on me." Cade says from behind his sunglasses. His hat sits backwards and tank top loose on his fit physique. His eyes concentrate on the road as we zoom pass opposing cars.
"Why?" I question.
"Because I've been ditching him and parties to hang out with you."
I feel a bit bad. "I mean, you could--"
"Don't. He doesn't give it a second thought when Holly calls him so I don't want to hear his grief."
I smile to myself. Blair influenced or rather pushed Cade persistently to get me out of town for awhile. When it came to school work, I didn't like to falter but lately I've been feeling rather overwhelmed. His Uncle owned a beach house just thirty-five minutes away from campus and offered it to Cade whenever he liked. We pull into a newly cemented driveway decorated with palm trees. The brightly colored getaway sits back from the road with an open outlook and concept.
"My Uncle just renovated so, sorry if it's a little dusty."
"It's gorgeous." I gasp, taking in the spacious house.
"Check out the view." He thumbs.

The back of the house is loaded with windows and a set of French doors that open to a large deck. The house's backyard is quite literally the beach as I step out and enjoy the ocean breeze.
"Want to check out the beach?" Cade asks, joining me.
I nod, before heading to get changed into my swimsuit. I rejoin Cade minutes later as we head out to the sandy escape. We find a spot closer to the water, setting out a couple large towels. I ditch my shirt and shorts and lay out on the towel.

"Wow."
"What?" I question quickly.
"I've just never seen you so.....bare."
"I can put my clothes back on." I laugh.
"Nope, no thank you."
I continue to laugh. "Thanks for bringing me out here. It's beautiful."
He shrugs. "It's no big deal."
I watch as he pulls his tank over his head seeing for the first time just how fit he is. "Wow." "What?" He questions.
"Just haven't seen you so....bare."
He laughs. "I'm not putting my clothes back on."
"Good." I hum.

We spend the most of day on the beach before adventuring the boardwalk. We find dinner and decide to take it back to the house to eat out on the deck.
"Want to check out the nightlife here?" I shrug.
"You pick."
He shakes his head. "Nope, you are in charge here."
"I was kind of hoping on just hanging out tonight, if that's ok?"
"Perfect."
"Are you sure?" I question.
"Yes Sam, if I wasn't I'd be going without you."
I pout. "Mean."
He laughs pushing his chair back and away from the table. "Come here."
I give a weird look before walking towards him. He gathers me into his arms and sets me in lap. I feel his forehead come to rest against my back as he sighs deeply. I place my hands on his before running them up and down his arms.
"I really like you, Sam." He speaks quietly.
I smile. "I really like you too, Cade."

We spend some more time out of the beach, stargazing before the rigors on the drive and day catch up. We close up the house and head upstairs to get situated for bed.
"I'll take the couch." Cade informs.
"No you won't." I respond way too eagerly.
"I'm not letting you sleep on the couch." He retorts.
"I know that." I smile.
He looks around. "There is only one bed right now."
"Ok? We don't need another one."
Cade smiles finally catching on. "Are you sure?"
"Most positive." I crawl into bed, smelling the likes of fresh detergent. Cade catches the lights before falling into the sheets. I make the first move, cuddling into his side. His arm drapes across mine as he settles into the pillow.
"Goodnight Sam."
"Night Cade." I hum before falling fast asleep.
