JAMIE
For some stupid reason I cannot stop crying.
I mean I barely know the guy so why is it so important that I be with him? That things be different between us? What is wrong with me? But no amount of crying into my pillow helps and my heart still feels heavy. Slumming. The word won’t stop ringing in my ears, it’s on a constant loop and won’t let me listen to anything else. But when I remember how disappointed Harry was, how hurt, I can’t help but feel bad for him. Maybe this #HT person doesn’t know anything; But #HT hasn’t been wrong about much until now. #HT was right about Harry and Natalie, about the fact that they broke up about everything #HT has said about other people in Springvale.
The phone rings and I want to ignore it but for some reason I don’t. I expect the voice on the other end to be Harry’s but it’s not. “Niall?”
“Look, Jamie. I don’t do this sort of thing often, you know me. But I can’t just let this thing go. Harry has a lot of faults, believe me, but he genuinely cares about you. I know because you’re all he ever talks about ever since he got back from Vegas. He was really looking forward to this night. You can’t hold him hostage for something that isn’t even his fault.”
“Niall,” I say, sniffling. “I appreciate your sentiment, but you know what happened with Alex. I don’t want a repeat of that, ever. So, I have to be careful. I’m sorry, but I can’t keep making the same mistakes. I can’t keep trusting people.”
“#HT has gotten to you,” Niall says. “Don’t you see they’ve been after Harry’s family and Harry himself for years? No one knows why but everyone knows that there’s something #HT has against the Styles. Will you really listen to some tabloid and not the guy who cares deeply about you?”
“Niall—”
“You can save him, Jamie. If you care even a little about him, then stop him from ruining himself.”
“I don’t even know where he is.”
“I do.”
