“I still think it was rather rude of him to speak to you about a job, Emmy. You’re not my assistant, you’re my fiancé for god’s sake.’’ I say as she takes a sip of her champagne.
She rolls her eyes, giving me that ‘seriously, Harry?’ face she gives me at least twice a day, ‘’You do realize that’s the job I applied for, and I’m still on the pay roll under assistant.’’ She smirks, getting me twisted in my own complaining statement.
‘’Well played, beautiful.’’ I throw her a smirk before putting the rim of the beer bottle against my lips, taking a drink of the cold beverage, it tasted good – mainly because it was my first one of the night.
“Dada.. Dada.’’ I heard the sweet little voice beside me, such beautiful music to my ears.
I look over in the stroller and see my darling little angel has awoken from her short nap, but well needed. She won’t be bratty for a while, thankfully!
‘’Well hi there sweetheart, did you sleep good?’’ I ask with a smile as I unbuckle the waist strap – we honestly can’t trust this little girl, she’s tricky and she’ll try to climb out – and pick her out of the stroller, sitting her on my lap as she squeals in happiness.
I love it.
“Remind me, again, how you two made such an adorable baby?’’ I heard a familiar voice say.
From the corner of my eye I see Carly closing the distance between us. She smiles brightly at Emmy and gives her quick hug, taking a seat beside her.
“Speaking of adorable babies, where’s yours?’’ I say with a laugh as I look up at her to find her childless, empty handed.
“Javon.. he’s somewhere.’’ She sighs, shrugging her shoulders at me.
“I’ve never.. met him.’’ Emmy mumbles as she looks over at Carly, but her expression wasn’t so happy – she looked depressed, as if it was the most horrible thing ever.
‘’Yeah.’’ She says softly, biting her lip as she stares down at her lap.
‘’Everything… alright, love?” I ask, curious about what’s going on.
Carly’s eyes meet my gaze, I knew her well enough to know that something was up, it was in her eyes.
‘’Carly?’’ Emmy says gently, not really sure either.
“Has he been hitting you again? Because I fucking told that bastard Carly if he ever-‘’
‘’No.’’ She cuts me off, shaking her head from left to right a few times before releasing a sigh.
Carly and I are closer than what we let on, Emmy and I know everything about her and I’ve had a serious and private talk with Javon before, I know for sure my threats are still burned into his mind. I’m pretty protective of people that mean a lot to me, if you haven’t noticed.
“He just cares, okay. That’s it.’’ She admits.
‘’Hold on, he… cares? And you’re upset by it?’’ Emmy asks, confused as usual.
I sigh, knowing truly what this is about. This moment was the time to put in my two sense and get this conversation hopefully closed.
‘’Carly.. I know you’re not used to being treated well by men, but you have to see it through his eyes. He loves his child and he loves you, he’d do anything for both of you. I mean, gosh, he has. He came back and he changed.. I know it’s hard to adjust to, but it’s worth it.’’ I preach mainly because I get the guy’s point.
“I know, and I appreciate the change but.. I’m afraid this change of his won’t last long.’’ Carly admits her fears aloud.
“He put the alcohol down for you. He stopped the partying, the drinking, he changed Carly. I know it’s hard to get, and it’s got to be really hard to trust him again. But once you give him your honest trust, I think things will go smoothly.’’ I tell her with a sigh, hoping and praying I was right about this.
I didn’t want her for to be in doubt, but I certainly didn’t want her to get hurt and used the way she was once.
