Chapter 17

I sat down on the sofa as I stared at the television blankly. I was infuriated with Harry. First, he took my daughter out of the house without telling me, then he chatted up a young fan-girl with Darcy at his side. I wasn't sure which I was more mad about. I knew that Darcy was safe with Harry. I knew he would never put her in harm's way. As I sat quietly, listening to the boys talk, I realized I was more upset that he took the girl's phone number. I knew it wasn't fair of me to think that he'd wait for me. But I wanted to believe that he still loved me the way he said he did. I groaned at myself quietly then rested my chin on my fist.
"Is everything okay over there, E?" Louis asked with a chuckle. I nodded without even looking at him. To look over at Louis, I had to put Harry in my line of sight. I was too mad to even look at him. It was completely irrational. We weren't together but I couldn't control it. "Come on darling." Louis urged. I shook my head and got up from the sofa.
"I'm going to go get Darcy ready for bed." I announced. The boys watched me with scrutinizing eyes. I wanted so much to just tell Harry I didn't like he took the girl's number. But he tore it up, that meant something, didn't it? I left the room in a slow, tired manner so I wouldn't be nagged when I returned.

"Mummy, why do you look so upset?" Darcy asked as I tried to wash her hair. I looked at her curiously. I thought I was being good at hiding the fact I was upset with Harry. "You're eyes are sad." Darcy murmured.
"I'm just tired, baby girl." I stopped for a moment and eyed her, "Since when do you call me Mummy?" She giggled and covered her mouth. Her eyes shining brightly. I chuckled and gazed upon her lovingly. "Honey, can we talk about something?" I asked her softly. She nodded with her full dimpled smile. "Do you love Harry?" I inquired.
She beamed, "I do."
"You know that Harry is going to be leaving in a few weeks, right? He's going back out with Uncle Louis." I didn't want to make her sad but I wanted her to be aware of it.
"I don't want Harry to go." She whimpered.
"I know baby. I don't want Harry to go either." I comforted her with honesty. I really didn't want him to leave. As much tension as there was between us, he made Darcy happy and I wanted her to be happy.
"Maybe we could ask him to stay?" Darcy suggested with hopeful eyes.
I frowned a little, "We can't , honey. Just like we can't ask Uncle Louis or NiNi to stay."
"Well, what if Harry was my daddy? Would Harry stay if you wanted him to be my daddy? He'd be a good daddy. I asked him if he could be my daddy." Darcy informed me. My breath caught in my chest.
"You wouldn't want Louis or NiNi to be your daddy?" I asked out of curiosity.
She shook her head, "No. Just Harry."
"Why Harry, baby?" I inquired wanting so badly to be in my child's head.
"Because Harry loves me. He calls me baby girl." Darcy smiled brightly, showing all of her little teeth. I nodded and massaged the shampoo through her curly locks. "Mummy?" Darcy nearly whispered.
"What, sweetie?" I smiled at her warmly.
"Do you love Harry?" She inquired.
I smiled even though my heart was breaking, "I will always love Harry."
"Then why can't he be my daddy?" Darcy asked with curious eyes.
I sighed, "That's not how it works, baby. Harry loves you and he will always be there for you, but he's your friend. And sometimes that's the best love you can have. A person that chooses to love you." Darcy nodded and went back to playing with her mermaid doll. I bit down on my lip as I finished washing her hair. She closed her eyes and sighed. She loved having her hair washed. "Tilt your head back, Darc." I instructed pulling my fingers from her scalp.

I carried Darcy into the living room. Her hair was still soaking wet and she was dressed in the cute kitten pajamas Louis bought for her. Darcy wiggled out of my arms and ran to Niall. She climbed into his lap and rested her head on his chest. Harry looked a little disappointed but didn't say anything. Darcy held the book in her hand up to Niall's face. He smiled and took the book from her. It was about a leprechaun and she only ever wanted Niall to read it to her. I stood by the sofa awkwardly. I felt the need to cry but I didn't want my daughter or the boys to see it.
"Hey, Noli." Harry said brushing the back of his hand against my arm. I looked at him, a bit startled that he was standing next to me. "Come here." He murmured taking my hand. He led me into the small sun room and sat me down. "Talk to me." He whispered in a comforting voice. I just smiled weakly, trying to contain my tears. I dropped my eyes to the floor. "Enola Moon, look at me." Harry commanded in a gentle tone. I turned my eyes to his again. "Tell me what's wrong." He urged. "You're the one that said we could be friends." He reminded me.
I sighed and let the tears fall down my cheeks, "She's going to hate me as much as I hated my mother when I was a teenager. She's going to be filled with rage and I don't want her to be."
"Enola." Harry murmured sadly. I buried my face in my hands and sobbed.
