Fool's Gold

Chapter 64

Harry held my hand tightly while we walked to the hotel room lazily. I could tell that he was completely exhausted. His bright green eyes were droopy, and he tossed his hair in a way that left it messier than before. He was done with being awake. As we reached the hotel room door, Harry stopped. HE turned to his mother and sister. He hugged his sister then kissed her forehead. I smiled to myself as Harry hugged his mother tightly. I watched them closely, just wondering how they interacted. I frowned a bit when Harry hugged his mother tighter. It seemed as though he was comforting her with the way he rubbed her back and squeezed just a bit harder. Anne kissed his cheek softly before whispering to him.
"I love you too." He spoke almost as quietly as she did. I wondered what was bothering her. I knew it was in regard to the relationship that Harry and I had. But I wanted to know specifics. What worried her most? Was it the loss of her son's innocence? The threat that my husband posed to his emotional well-being?
Anne smiled at me, "Goodnight, Enola. Get some rest. I've got a plan for us girls tomorrow."
I nodded, "Goodnight, Anne." I looked to Gemma's tired face, "Night Gemma."
"Night E." She replied gently; she was just as tired as Harry. Harry unlocked the hotel room door then pulled me inside. He said a quiet goodnight to the other boys before he shut the door.

I stroked Harry's knuckles as he led me into the bedroom. I sat down on the bed, gazing at Harry's perfect frame while he undressed. I leaned back on my elbows as he stripped off his shirt quickly.
"Why are you looking at me like that Noli?" Harry inquired tiredly, removing his jeans. I bit my lip and shook my head. He laughed, "There is too a reason. Tell me what it is." He tossed his jeans on top of his suitcase then faced me with a firm expression. I held my hand out to him. He placed his palm against mine. I wrapped my fingers around his smooth, strong hand. I pulled him down next to me. Harry adjusted on the bed so he was lying on his back.I snuggled into his side, wrapping my arm around his naked torso and resting my head on his warm, bare chest. "Come on. Talk to me, baby."
"Shopping with your mother and sister was strange. I just...never mind." I sighed heavily.
"Noli, why was it strange?" Harry asked with concern in his voice.
I scratched my head nervously, "They wanted me to talk to them but I didn't know what to say. What could I say? Your mother obviously disapproves of this, which I don't blame her, and Gemma is worried about you as well. I didn't know what to say to them. They wanted me to tell them about my life but..." I shook my head and pleaded, "Please just hold me, Harry." Harry sighed softly and kissed my hair.
Harry stroked my arm gently, "I liked what you said about the nickname thing. About why you call me bear." I smiled, holding Harry tighter. I gazed up at his beautiful but embarrassed face as he spoke again. "Was there another reason that you picked that? I felt like you weren't saying everything."
"Bears symbolize many things in mythology: wisdom, loyalty, strength, protection, masculinity, nurturing. You're all of those things, even when you don't think so. Sometimes when you speak, it's like you've seen many more years than you actually have. You'd protect those boys you love so much until the end; you'll always stand by them. And you've got the strength of heart to do so. And the way you are with your mother and sister, so loving and you take care of them. The way you are with me. Your heart is so strong to be able to...do whatever this is. When Charles has come up, you've got this look in your eye like you want to save me. You are all things that the bear represents. It fits." I smirked and added, "And the way you make love..." Harry started laughing loudly. "And that laugh." I chuckled leaning over him to look into his eyes. Harry calmed himself and brushed my hair away from my face.
"You're so beautiful." Harry murmured, caressing my cheek with his thumb.
I pushed his hair back and pressed my forehead to his, "You're all I've ever wanted." Harry lifted his head slightly to capture my lips between his. Just then we heard a thump near the bedroom door. Harry and I both looked over to see Louis standing in the doorway with a smile.
"Louis, what in hell are you doing?" Harry asked pulling me closer.
Louis kept smiling, shaking his head, "I was going to ask you guys something but..."
"Louis, seriously, what do you want?" Harry grunted at the tall, thin boy in our door.
"I was going to ask to speak to Enola but I see you're busy." Louis replied.
"I can talk." I said sitting up completely. I moved off the bed gently as to not jostle my exhausted man too much.
"We were just lying down to go to sleep." Harry informed Louis.
"E, can we talk then?" Louis inquired of me.
I agreed, "Sure. Let's go down and get a drink."

Louis and I entered the hotel bar with Preston behind us. Louis looked a bit uncomfortable with him being there but knew it was necessary. Preston sat down at the bar while Louis and I went to a table not too far away. I smiled warmly at Louis when he sat down across from me. I tapped my fingers nervously as he ordered a drink from the petite, friendly waitress.
The girl looked at me, "What would you like?"
"Red wine?" I replied, inquiring as to the kinds they had. She rattled off the list with pep. A wide smile spread across my face when she told me of the wine that Harry and I had many bottles of while we were in Italy.
"That's the one you'd like?" The waitress asked seeing my smile.
I nodded, "Yes, thank you." The girl gave a single nod then walked away. I set my eyes on Louis', waiting for him to start speaking.
"You really like that wine?" He inquired.
"Yeah." I giggled. "Harry and I pretty much lived off of it when we were in Italy. Starting at dinner every night we'd drink it. We'd drink a bottle and a half a night."
"So you guys were drunk all night, every night?" Louis seemed distressed.
I shook my head, "No. Not at all. We stayed up really late every night and we drank slowly because we were talking. There was no drunkenness." I felt a twinge of anger, "Sorry, the way we feel about each other isn't alcohol induced." Louis looked taken aback by my sudden attitude. The waitress returned with my wine and Louis' beer. We both smiled at her and thanked her. She walked away quickly, sensing the tension between Louis and I.
"Look, I asked you to come down to talk because Harry insisted and he loves you very much." Louis informed me bluntly.
"That would be why I accepted." I replied just as honestly.
"I don't like that you lied to him. I don't want him to be hurt. I think that you could break him, snap him like he was the smallest of twigs. I don't want that to happen to him. He loves you a lot." Louis stated almost harshly.
"I love him just as much. I wouldn't be here if I didn't." I grunted. Louis looked like he was skeptical. "Louis, I know that you are never going to believe a word I say. And honestly, I wouldn't trust me either. But I've never done this before. I've never...I've never been with anyone but my husband. Before him, sure. But while I've been married, until Harry, I just faced the fact that I was going to be miserable for the rest of my life. Meeting Harry was serendipitous, but also the greatest thing to ever happen to me. He is amazing. He has touched every part of my life in so many ways." I sat quietly for a moment. I wanted Louis to respond to my admission.
"Are you really leaving your husband for Harry?" Louis asked softly.
I nodded, "It is going to be a long process before I can actually walk out the door and even longer process before I'm really not married any longer but yes. I am leaving."
"Why before you can walk out the door?" Louis still seemed mad. I wanted to grumble; I hated repeating myself so much.
"Charles is a well-connected guy. Finding someone to get the show on the road has been difficult. I'm just kind of stuck at the moment." I sighed heavily, not liking how my search had turned out while Harry and I were apart.
Louis leaned forward, "Does Charles know what you are doing? Where you are?"
"He knows where I am. He thinks that I am trying to work on a collection. He's in New York right now so me being here isn't that big of a deal to him."
"And when you went to Italy?" Louis lifted his eyebrow at me.
I smirked, "He was in Tokyo for whatever guys' bullshit he and his brothers do." Louis nodded but he didn't speak. He stared at the table and his drink for a long while as I sipped my wine.
"Harry and I had an argument last night." Louis disclosed with a sad face.
I set my glass down, "I figured as much. He seemed a bit off when he came to bed and he didn't want to talk about it." Louis pursed his lips. "May I ask what about?"
"You. Of course. I said some not so nice things and he went off. We've got into physical tiffs before but not like last night. I thought he was going to give me a good wallop. Dale was shocked by his outburst. Eleanor was a bit scared even." Louis divulged.
"What did you say to him?" I inquired. I wanted to make him uncomfortable like he'd been doing to me for the last few days. Louis inhaled deeply then gave me the rundown of the conversation. I frowned hearing it and how upset Harry got. "I wouldn't do that to him, Louis. Like I said, I know you feel you can't take my word, but I promise that will never happen. He is all I've ever wanted." I assured Louis.
"You don't want to say anything to me about Harry telling me your husband abuses you?" Louis seemed shocked by my lack of attention to it.
I sighed heavily, "It’s not abuse. He’s just a jerk." I played my emotions down. I didn't want to get upset in front of Louis. Though I knew that I would crawl into bed with Harry and cry for a bit after Louis and I parted. I rubbed my thigh nervously when I noticed the sad eyes Louis was looking at me with.
"Enola, it's still not okay." Louis grunted at me.
I nodded, "I know, Louis. That's also why I am leaving. I don't like what happens in his house. I stay because I have to. I've got nowhere else to go at this point."
Louis shrugged, "Come with us. It'll make Harry happy to have you all the time. He'll gladly let you move into his home in England. Take care of you so you can just get out."
"No. That’s how I ended up where I am now. I let someone else try to solve my problems. I love Harry. I'm leaving for Harry but I will not ask him to support me." I stated firmly. Louis looked completely skeptical again. "Harry and I discussed this already. He understands and he says he can deal with the way things are going to be for a while."
"Harry can say what he wants. He's going to get jealous eventually." Louis grunted sounding annoyed.
I sighed heavily, "Yeah. He is. I dread the day because Harry is the one that I love. Harry is the man I want to be with. He is a sensitive guy and I don't want this to hurt him or where our relationship could go."
"Could go?" Louis was puzzled.
I smiled, "I'd rather be happy with Harry for a short time than be miserable with Charles for the rest of my life." I then repeated myself on another topic, "Harry is one of those people that improves your life even if he's not in it for long. He can change you in an instant. He's even more beautiful on the inside than he is on the outside. A heart of gold is an understatement with that man. He has the purest of intentions and he has the utmost conviction in every idea that crosses his mind." I smiled weakly, "I wished I believed in things the way he does." Louis smiled as well.

I crawled back into bed beside Harry. He was fast asleep and it was well after one in the morning. Louis and I had just come back from the hotel bar. We'd spent nearly two hours talking, mostly about Harry. I laid down with my back to Harry. I didn't want to wake him. He had been so tired when we got back after their show. The bed shifted slightly and I felt and arm around my waist.
Harry kissed my neck lightly, "You were gone a long time. Is everything okay?" I just nodded as he kissed across my shoulder. "Are you sure?" Harry hummed.
"Yeah. Louis and I were just talking and stuff." I turned to face Harry. He gazed at me with exhausted eyes. "He said that you got physical with him. That you pushed him and he thought you were going to thrash him." I spoke shyly.
Harry groaned, "He shouldn't have said what he did." Harry grunted, "Which I am assuming he told you that too?" I nodded. Harry's brow furrowed in anger.
"Harry, he has a reason to think those things. We talked though and we are friendly. We can coexist in your life. He's worried because he loves you. I'm not mad at him." I said trying to calm him. Harry didn't say a word. He meshed his mouth to mine and pulled my body against his tightly.
Harry hummed again, "You taste good. Like the wine we had while we were on holiday."
"They have it in the bar downstairs. I had a few glasses." I smiled at my handsome, tired man. Harry laid his lips over again. We laid together intertwined, kissing passionately and slowly until we both fell asleep.
